The Gympie Pines Golf Club situated beside the Bruce Highway on the northern outskirts of Gympie is an 18 hole championship par 70 course. Undulating with good tree cover it boasts a magnificent modern licenced club.
The clubhouse provides all facilities that a visitor requires including function rooms and restaurant. Visitors very welcome. The historic town of Gympie is the main entrance into the delights of Cooloola beach, Great Sandy National Park and the glories of Fraser Island.

On course housing development has provided capital for the ongoing viability of the course and some improvements to the course in the form of new bunkering. Unfortunately, the development has also shortened the course with the par 5 2nd reduced to a fairly straightforward par 4 and the par 5 13th also reduced to a par 4, with a pretty ordinary temporary green on the old fairway (although the new green is under construction). The challenging 200m par 3 14th has been removed to make way for housing and replaced by a short par 3 on the old practice range that disrupts the flow of holes and is again pretty ordinary.
PROS
- Reasonable value for money, good greens, difficult to get in too much trouble
Cons
- Shortened par 5s, temporary green on 13th and replacement hole 17th

Over the past few years this course has undergone many changes. Going from a club that was driven to bankrupcy to now being a 70 year old golf course that feels like a quality resort course.
The new owners have pumped money into the course and have changed things for the better. The staff and pro are very friendly.

Played this course in early 2006. To my surprise it was dead quiet! Overall not a bad golf course for a country town. Most greens were in good shape & there's a reasonable mix of 3's, 4's & 5's.
The course is quite hilly, so if you're not in tip top shape, you may want to hire a buggy.

Played it autumn and it was in good nick. Club had some financial trouble over theft but is bouncing back. Up and down course but not too steep. If your half fit you won't need a cart. Suit those who are strong with low/mid irons as a few dog legs that require a bit of strategy. Good greens. Cheap enough and clubhouse good.

I played the front nine yesterday. A well kept course with a good mix of easy and difficult holes. Well pruned fairways and rough and nice greens with plenty of bunkers around the greens to provide more of a challenge if you happen to hit wayward shots. Not hitting the fairway on some of the holes can be quite punishing too.
I wasn’t impressed with the ratio of Par 3’s to Par 5’s, but given they’re still doing work on the course, I’ll overlook that fact.
The staff were very friendly and overall it’s a pleasant place to bash the white ball.
Some of the holes have some serious undulation, so if you’re not very fit or if you’re lazy, I’d highly recommend taking a cart.
