Played on the 04/02/2012. Evidence of recent rain – bunkers full of water, cart track marks everywhere. I’ve played here before so I knew what to expect and for $25 for 18 holes with a cart, one can’t complain too much. It’s simple, this course cannot cope with rain. It is otherwise normally a pretty well maintained, good value course.

Course was generally Ok and we had little to no delays. Some bunkers were simply overgrown jungles and unplayable. One our carts run out of power with 2 holes to go. Had to push it up the hills. Told the proshop – didn’t seem to concerned about it. Spoke with another group who had the same problem. Seems it might be a common problem. Would be nice to have a course map on the card or at least available. Finally stay on the fairways, even straying slightly will mean a lost ball. All in all for $25 including a cart it was OK and would play there again.

For 25 bucks with a cart you cant go wrong..there was abit of a long jam at the first but we still got round in ok time. Front nine is long, Back nine is shorter but tighter of the Tee.

First time on the ’Hills’ and found it to be a great course. Donated a few balls to the many water hazards on the front nine and was happy to see the back nine was a little drier.

Just responding to your email, it was my 3rd game here. I found it very well priced, greens well presented, management were very helpful, carts were fantastic.

Cheers Mick Breuer.

Cons

  • No course map on score cards. Needs more signage on course where tee off areas are. Sand traps need attention.

Played on Saturday and was exceptionally surprised at how well this course played. The Hills would have to be one of Brisbane’s best kept secrets. Enjoyable course to play on and the country air is also a bonus.

The greens have just been cored and sanded, which we were advised of. The fairways were in good condition. Hadn’t played for a bit so it was perfect to just go out and work on ball striking. Nice long and open fairways on most holes, so you can give it a lash without having to worrying too much. At $15.00 it was well worth the drive out to Jimboomba.

Played at Hill on Friday, 4th Nov. The course was in amazing condition.. Fairway were freshly cut, greens were receptive and beautiful to play on. Even the green on the 12th hole was surprisingly good.

Broke 100 but lost a few balls on the 5th in the water. This is becoming my least favourite hole of all time.

Looking forward to my next round at the Hills. Great value for money and a good challenging lay out.

18. Climber79 | Rated | 31 Oct 2011 | Add A Review

I played this course after very heavy rain the night before which makes reviewing difficult but I will try to be as objective as possible.

At over 6900m from the blues it’s the longest course I’ve ever played by a considerable margin and with the rain (zero roll on any of the fairways, a few of my drives actually hopped backwards) and a reasonably stiff breeze it played closer to 7900m, it truly is a monster.

The first thing I noticed is the cart paths are in fairly poor condition, I’m not sure if it was because of the rain but they are heavily rutted which made travelling on them slow and uncomfortable. The course could definitely use some more signs, the next tee isn’t always in an obvious location.

The course itself is an odd mixture of some very good golf holes (3 of the par 3’s I thought were excellent golf holes) and some downright strange ones. The 5th hole in particular is just ridiculous, there is no other way of putting it. A large lake at about the 190m mark forces a mid iron off the tee followed by a long iron or fairway wood, I hit 5 iron, 3 iron. The 4th requires a carry across a gully with an oddly placed large tree on the perfect line for those who play a draw (like myself), pretty much anything left of the tree will kick down into the scrub as the fairway slopes that way which forces you to either play a significant cut or hit it straight over the tree, an impossibility for the shorter hitter I would imagine. The 17th has 2 large trees in the middle of the fairway and you have to be absolutely metre perfect in order to have a clear shot to the green. It’s not immediately obvious from the tee and I was fortunate that a hybrid off the tee left me in the perfect spot, was more good luck than good management though.

The par 5’s were all way over 500m, in ideal conditions I think 2 could possibly be reached by the longest of hitters but 2 would be pretty much unreachable in almost all conditions. There really aren’t any risk/reward 5’s and I think that detracts from the course, a realistically reachable par 5 or two adds positively to a course in my opinion. There are a few very long par 4’s (420m+) but there isn’t a whole lot of devil in them, low markers should find them tough but fair. The 2nd is about 430m but doesn’t play anywhere near that length due to a substantially downhill tee shot, I hit 3 wood, 5 iron with no roll off the tee. It’s probably the hardest of the 4’s owing to a tight second shot with OB on the left and a steep slope to the right which would make getting up and down very difficult and there is also water if you stray too far right.

The fairways were saturated, there was casual water on almost every shot but they appeared otherwise is good condition. Bunkers were unplayable because of the water so I can’t comment on these and the greens were in much the same boat but they were patchy in places it seemed.

The course was pretty deserted and although I came across a couple of groups of members, both times I was immediately let through with a minimum of fuss.

At the price of $18.50 with cart it was definitely worth playing and with a bit of money spent and maybe a few small design changes it could really be an excellent course. As it stands now it seems more of a gimmick course because of it’s length but it wouldn’t take all that much to bring it from an average course to a very good course. I’d be keen to have another crack in the dry, at the price it’s very much worth a look even with the downsides I mentioned. FWIW I play off 1 and shot 82 off the blues and I played reasonably well, it really is that hard (no roll whatsoever doesn’t help matters either!)

Challenging course, a little under done. Some of the fairways need work, as well as the greens. Enjoyed the point about thinking before you hit off the tee, because of water traps. Would go again.

It was a perfect place for a laid back round on Friday. It’s no resort course but I enjoyed every part of playing here again. Will be back to play it again soon.

We struck some horrible weather that would have seen most courses closed. We had a lot of casual water drops and couple of problem greens but most drained pretty well.

Bunkers were out of play so I can’t comment on those.

We will definately be back next year (annual trip to Souths v Bronocs game). We could see through the rain that the course would be a great day out on a sunny day.

We’ve played a few courses on our annual trips and have had more than our share of frustrating rounds. Fustration from a wayward hit and an immediate re-load. The Hills is different. You spray one and you get punished but you have a very good chance of finding you ball. They have cleared out most of the undergrowth. In most cases a chip out sideways and you are on your way again.

Let’s not talk about scores. The rain cost us many stokes. Next time it will be different. Be warned Hills we’ll get you next year.

PS Breakfast at the Restaurant is a must.

Wow, I have played a lot of courses around the greater Brisbane and Gold Coast area and I must admit, I was quietly impressed. Although the course hadn’t seen rain in quite some time, the upkeep of the massive greens was impressive with the speed being consistent throughout the whole 18.

I had the pleasure of playing there with a good mate on a Friday afternoon and both of our games are significantly different. I am a long hitter of the ball and he is the opposite, and on such a long, technically challenging course, it suited both of our games, and with the right club selection you are still left with the age old decision of laying up for the short putt or attacking the huge greens risking a two or three putt!

Overall, the fairways were ok seeing as there had been no rain for months, however the entire course did seem rather bumpy.

I will definately be back to The Hills, especially after a good dumping of rain to soften it up!

Well done

Yes I enjoyed playing the course today. Due to little rain, the fairways were a bit dry, but greens were good and holding.Quite a challenge for me over a long course, and try to miss many bunkers. The club needs to give more signs to locate the next tee on some holes.
Like to play again after rain has taken place.
Thanks.

Overall it was a nice day out with a good bunch of mates on a different course, but I would not go out of my way to play there again. The day started on time, but when we arrived at the second nine in just over two hours, there were 5 groups in front of us. The wait was so long that we went back around to the first nine that we had just played. Our second nine was completed in just over two hours and there was nobody holding us up and nobody pushing up our tail so it was relatively pleasant. We paid $35/person with carts so the price was right but the course was a little rough. The greens were acceptable, the ground was like concrete and very brown, the tees were flat and true, there are numerous ruts throughout the course (which make driving a cart quite unpleasant, the sand bunkers were lacking (some unraked, some hard as concrete) at least the holes were reasonably long and challenging. With a little work, water and good course marshalling this could be a good course but I guess then it would cost $70/person.

For a course out in the country, its surprisingly well maintained. We played at 7 in winter so the front greens where very slow, next minute the back was really hard and fast. The course is long and fairly straight forward. The front nine is a lot harder compared to the back.

For 20 for 18 holes, it the best value for money out there.

Course was in good nick .Greens were great and very testing.Fairways were a bit tight due to drying out of the course but this was ballanced by extra run off the tees.

All in all, we will certainly be back

hills was and always will be awe inspiring due to its abundant length and width and oversized greens as its mostly dry it does not acually play its full length but due to its location the dry winds usually help to keep you honest, also the wide fairways look inviting to rip it off the tee but find the wrong side of the fairway and you wont have any real chance of finding a easy putt, well place large bunkers will catch you out and keep you playing more direct tee shots as most bail out spots are covered, the condition was dry the greens were not good to look at but suprisinly had a great smooth pace and roll also compared to the bouncy dry fairways the greens held nice even some spin in those tree covered green areas. I have played hills alot of times over a 10 year period and have never been disapointed and if only this course had another dam and/or more water supply it could really be one of australia’s best and most well known golf course i have been fortunate to play this course at its best green soft fairways wind soft yet lightning fast 15plus stip metre greens full bunkers and long rough it was the hardest longest most rediculously fun course ever and not even the the pro’s that would visit would even go close to scratch even the whites had its struggles with some of the best.

Have played Hills a couple of times before and have always been greeted by friendly staff.
The last time we played here at Hils we played off the whites, found the course challenging but very playable.
Played there again on the weekend and in our wisdom my mate and i decided to play off the blues for an added "challange". And a challenge is definately what we got, the course became so much longer, with some par 4’s tough to reach greens in 2 (near impossible for me). And as for the 18th par 5, that is huge….. and with a very strategically placed water crossing your 2nd shot choice is a big one….
Good to see they were redoing some bunkers round the course as they were pretty average last time we played. Course was a little dry and very hard (under foot) in some places but due to its location i guess can be expected.
We had a cart for our round this time, (we walked it last time and boy it was a long way). Something broke in the steering on the cart between the 3rd and 4th holes, rang the pro shop and they had a new cart to us in less than 10 mins. Thanks guys, thought that was very good service.
Thank you iseekgolf, at $35 with a cart thought it was great value.
All in all we had a great day and i cant wait for my next challenging round at the Hills.

Received a warm and friendly welcome in the pro shop. We were early so we had a light lunch in the restaurant. The food was good.

The course is long but it was dry and because of this it was bouncy. I can see it being up unplayable after a long dry spell. The greens were crispy and roughish, making two putting a challenge.

We played from the white tees but looked at the positions of the back blue tees. The card shows that from the blues it’s circa 6900 metres, par 72 but ACR of 77 and I can see why. A number of the blue tees had large carries over water and many were such that the drive is down a narrow corridor, which on some holes did not align to the direction of the hole.

From the whites there are a few crazy holes. And it’s hard, from the plans of the holes on the tee signs, to work out what club you should hit from the tee. Looking where the 150 metre markers were to help work out what club to use did not work for me. Basically, the ball ran a lot further than you would expect.

Holes like the fourth, circa 390 metres, so not short, are hard work. The length and the hole plan suggest that you can hit driver. But reality is, it’s a 4iron to leave you short of the water and then 200 metres to a convex green. I hit the driver and hit it well, resulting in never seeing the ball again. Taking a one club length drop for the margin of the lateral red hazard (why are they all red hazards when the water is across the width of the hole and hence should be yellow – thus allowing a drop back on the fairway?) leaves a down hill shot from the rough of 160 ish metres to a convex green – what fun. So unless your name is Mr T. Woods or Mr R McElory be happy with a 5 on the 4th.

Another crazy hole is the long 18th par 5. From the whites, for me it was a drive and 3 wood to clear the water. From the blue’s I assume it’s a lay up for most people and a third from 190 to a green surrounded by bunkers with soft sand and totally unraked. Is that golf?

So it’s a long crazy bouncy track and from this you can see why it’s only $20 for 18 without a cart on a Saturday. It’s OK once and for me the only reason to go back for is the restaurant.

I found the Hills surprisingly good to play. The hike from Brisbane was well worth it and at $20 a round it is definitely good value for money. The course features some great driving holes where you are rewarded for taking the risk but will equally be punished if you don’t hit your drive out of the sweet spot. Front nine is definitely the pick and surrounded by farmland and with only a few other groups out on the course we had a great afternoon.

Played here yesterday and had a nice round. Lost a few balls in the fairway as there are a few blind shots over water carries, hills etc and the ball wasn’t were it should be. Hard to see balls in the early morning with the combination of dew and glare. State off the greens was a little disappointing. This wasn’t so much the courses fault as it was pitch marks that had not been repaired. Balls were bumping all over the place. I was repairing 3-4 pitch marks per hole, and they were just the ones on or near my line/ball etc. Nice day out but I find you get what you pay for. $29.50 inc cart is a cheap price and I feel people having a round at this price are often less concerned with pitch marks, bunkers etc.

played the course Tuesday and was impressed with the condition of the course. There however is a need to maintain the bunkers as most were unplayable (and i hit my share) or iether make them GUR until renovations can be implemented. The rough was, and, to find your ball took the required 5 mins plus (we had no group behind). More prominent distant markers to greens hazards etc. would be very helpful. Overall a very enjoyable day and like McArtur I shall return. The pro shop needs a big congratulations for their courtious manner. Thank you.

First time on this course. taking into consideration the rain, course was a little under prepared, but that’s acceptable. The greens were okay, although a little slow. What is unforgivable is the slow play, groups of 5 being allowed to play, groups playing in shorts, thongs and no shirts. Throw out etiquette and course marshalling on this course.

This could be a good course, if it was maintained.

Got to the course well before tee time and were just lucky enough to jump ahead of the 10 groups of social players. Played off the Blue which made it very challenging.

Apart from the 1st been extremely muddy, the rest of the course was in good nick. You need to hit the ball well and note your distance as it would’ve been very hard to find it in the rough.

Speed of play was quite good as a group walking in front of us actually jumped ahead so we could play at our pace. We were cruising quite well through each hole and was done in 4 hours. The advice for this course is to tee off early.

It is the longest course in the southern hemisphere and playing off the blues certainly pushed my limits. You’ll need very good course management playing this one, as quite a few hazards come into play.

A major problem was the maintenance of the course. This course would be up there with the likes of hyatt coolum and other championship courses if it is kept in good shape, regularly groomed and a cart path constructed.

We arrived at the course 20 mins before the 6:30 booking and were lucky enough to jump ahead of the 10 groups of social players. Played off the Blue which was firstly very hard as it added an extra 5 strokes on each hole lol.

Apart from the 1st been extremely muddy we were cruising quite well through each hole. They were very challenging and if you lost site of your ball, it would’ve been very hard to find it again. It is the longest course in the southern hemisphere and playing off the blues certainly pushed my limits. You’ll need very good course management playing this one, as quite a few hazards come into play. Be extra careful when driving the carts as the dirt tracks are very corrogated. We almost flipped the cart a few times.

On our way out we saw a group of 5 playing the back 9 which was a complete surprise but realised if you’re not teeing off early at this course, it’ll be the longest round you’ve ever played.

Overall, very enjoyable courses, with drivable par 3’s and huge grees, guaranteed fun.

A good price. Because of the rain, the fairways were being cut and if you leave the fairway, forget about your ball. A difficult course even for a solid player. Besides the frustration of losing so many ballseven though we saw where they went, as we played the 10th a group of five played in front of us. I was told that I should have called the pro shop! Not sure if I will go out there again. Plenty of better kept and less punishing courses out there.

My Wife and I played the Hills course the other day with a buggy and found it to be a very long course especially for my wife as she is not a long hitter. The condition could have been better it just looked a bit unloved. The greens were good though albeit a bit tricky. What was missing was any direction signs,an idea of where you are going from green to tee would be a great help. Enjoyable for low handicappers and long hitters and will be for my wife next time now we know where we are going. Will go back again soon as it is a very reasonable price.

Dear John,

Just to let you know that we you book online it is clearly stated that the greens have been renovated. All 18 holes are open.

OK. It was cheap at $15 each. But at no point in the process of booking, paying or checking in at the pro shop, did anyone mention that the back nine was closed and the greens had been cored and sanded.

The course was in fantastic condition and for $35 (inc cart), it is unbeatable for value.

As I’ve played at Hills before I knew where to go for each hole and also the distance marking. Without prior knowledge it would have been painful getting around.

Our group was held up with a group of 8 who looked like they were playing golf for the first time…. A course marshall would have sorted that mess out and I think is generally required for such a long and difficult course.

Overall I’ll be back to Hills again.

Having read nothing but good reviews, I thought I’d give this a go a couple of weeks ago. For starters, the clubhouse was poorly signed, as this is right next to a school it is easy to confuse their many (picturesque) buildings with my expectations of "Hills Golf Club" club house. Alas, the 3mx2m pro shop was not what I was expecting.

Anyway, got my cart (still had rubbish from the last group in it) and was driving to the first tee (which was also poorly signed) and realised the cart had just over 1/3 charge in it.

Distance markers very sparse (only 100/150/200m markers about 5cm below the surface so you had to be standing on it to see it). Many holes required lay-ups with no distance markers to hazard/dog-leg.

The tee blocks were in reasonable condition except the hole descriptions were damaged on some holes. The fairways were reasonable, though had a dry appearance despite the rain. The greens were nice and soft and received shots well. The bunkers were mostly out of play, but luckily I avoided all of them. I only saw the drinks cart girls once as she went to the group in front of me and the straight back to the clubhouse. Her cart must have been as low on charge as mine, which limped back to the pro shop with 1 bar left on it.

Overall, glad I went, just so I can appreciate other Brisbane courses even more. Won’t be going back any time soon.

really enjoyed my game here. even though i didnt play my best i still had a ball. teed off at 7am and was packed. even for a friday morning. we started on the back nine and was a challange from the get go. 9th hole is massive. standing ontop of the tee you could see how long it really is.

greens were in amazing condition and even with the recent downpour the whole course looked great.

the only downfall was we were stuck behind a group of 4 who were hitting off the black tees. i wouldnt of minded it if they were actually amazing golfers who are up to that level. but taking 4 shots to get onto the green on a par 3 was abit annoying..

the staff were very friendly and helpful. one of the only downfalls is that sometimes we couldnt find the next hole see signage was an issue. it was the biggest problem but you couldnt complain about it.

will be going back over and over agian. really enjoyed it .

Played hills for the first time on Sunday. Overall i though the course for the money was great value. It had good practise facilities to start, if your not afraid to chip next to the younger guys/girls.
Fairways were nice and firm and had a good roll. Greens were nice and true with a good pace to them.

overall the course makes you play shots, not just step up and hit it. The designer based the layout on RISK VS. REWARD. many times you are faced with a second lay-up or a tough second to the pins.

We chose to walk round and not take a cart due to feedback on pace of play, which to be honest meant we were rarely left waiting to hit.

Booking again Very Soon.

PROS

  • Layout - Practise Facilities - Overall Condition

Cons

  • Can play slow if your in a cart. Walk round to balance out pace of play!!

Playing of the blue tees makes this a very long course, the course is pretty challenging. The bunkers are very ordinary with little drainage in a number of them. This was the first time I had played here and I found the signage quite poor and occassionally we had to search for the next hole. Overall for the price this is a very good course.

Even after all the rain we had recently in Brisbane, which made most of my local golf courses unplayable, Hills International was surprisingly dry except for the odd wet area. I found the course challenging with a lot of thought going into how to play each hole. They offer a great variety of different holes with undulating fairways and water hazards. I enjoyed the quiet country atmosphere with plenty of birds and kangaroos. I will definitely be returning soon.

14th OCT played here for the first time for 15 years expecting the course to well matured after it’s promising rise in the 90’s. After reading a number of the reviews of how good the greens were we were quite exited about playing.
Well i would have to say that we very disappointed as the greens were very ordinary .

There’s no course marshall. We spent a long time waiting for a group in front and had the group behind hitting balls at us. Extremely disappointing and dangerous, to the point where we left after 9 holes (which took over 3 hours).

Won’t be going back.

Played off the Blue tees which is just sooooooo long. A eally good Aussie Course!! A bit predictable with an obsession with having water hazards going through the fairways 100 meters from the green. I really do think that a couple of Par 5’s should be made reachable in 2 (I think the shortest Par 5 is 540 meters). In saying all this, Hills is extremely good value and i will be back again!!

as a super four member i play at the hills quite often and i must say the course is improving every week under new management. the greens and fairways have patches of green showing up and the rough is a little bit more defined. although the usual layout is still there so you better bring your A game.

We really enjoyed the course. We were allowed to play from the blue markers, so we got to appreciate it’s full length. It is far from the easiest course in the world, but if you play it again and know where your going, you will find it much more playable. Found the greens lightning fast, but with a second visit you would know waht to expect.
good value with a cart at $30.

Played yesterday 29 August. Two social groups on the course. Played nine holes in 3 hours 10 mins due to the social groups in front. Waiting around on golf courses is no fun.

However, the golf course is in good condition and great to play.

Giving it 3.5 stars – without the social groups would have given it 5.

played on the 25th aug’ and enjoyed the course immenseley.fairways are in good nick and the greens are the best i’ve played on in some time.quite refreshing to actually have to hit a mid/long iron into the green rather than the short iron/wedge you usually have to play on most courses.there were 2 downsides to the day however, having to wait 30 mins for somebody to rock up to the pro shop before play and most of the cart tracks were quite terrifying but for under $30 mustn’t grumble!

Played on the 14/8/10. Had a fantastic day. Tee’d off a little earlier than booked in time and was no hold ups on the course. Greens were in fantastic condition and 50% of the bunkers were in good shape considering recent rain. Had hazards in tricky places so had to think about your shots from the tee. All in all would recomend the course as one to play. Definitely excellent value for money.

I regularly play Hills but for the $15 green fee with a cart it was a steal. The course has a challenging layout, great for long hitters.Dont get me wrong, its no resort course but it is enjoyable to play and they are upgrading the course regularly. The course will be at its best in about 2-3 weeks when it benefits from the rain we have just had.

played the hills course today for the first time and loved it….so much so i joined as a member for $99 bucks!! courtesy of the super 4 golf membership. Challenging course even from the white tee’s (next time its off the blue tee’s) the fairways were generous and long and the greens pretty slick. The only disappointment were the bunkers which need more sand (some of them) and maintenance too. Overall 5 stars.

90. Jaz78 | Rated | 10 Mar 2010 | Add A Review

Have played at Hills many times and have been pretty happy especially for the price but i’ve been very disappointed this time. Apart from being very wet which obviously cant be helped.. The fairways were not mowed and were about as long as the rough should be on a bad day but even more frustrating was the greens keepers were mowing in around the trees and close to the club house.. pretty much everywhere but the fairways. It was a most unenjoyable game when firstly distinguishing the fairway from the rough is difficult, then spending 5 minutes looking for your ball in middle of the fairway as its a couple of inches under grass! A majority of the bunkers were mini lakes however some of the bunkers look like they have had a fresh dump of sand which made hitting out a whole lot nicer. I took a mate there for the first time after giving it a wrap and his first impression was not a good one.. he wont be returning. Overall not an enjoyable day, hopefully they get the course back in order soon.

Have played The Hills previously, about 5 years ago and I recommend it as one of the best value courses around. The quality of the greens and fairways has improved and I still enjoy the layout. The front nine is quite challenging with water and gullies creating hazards in the most awkward places.
The length of the course isn’t a great issue from the whites but from the blues, it is a whole new ball game.
We will be back to play, their quiet days make it a great place to play golf with your mates and enjoy an ale after.

Played here on Saturday and actually teed off earlier than booked due to the lack of people around. This was the first time we had played here so we set off from the white tees. Its worth google mapping the course before going as this assisted getting from hole to hole, signage wasn’t the best.
The layout of this place was fantastic, with a great mix of length, and accuracy on most holes.
There are a few holes where your landing zone from the tee is blind, so local knowledge comes into play (none of which we had).
Another thing i liked about the course was the shot selection challenges. I used every club in my bag and lots of holes had a safe option and a Tiger line option.

OK, now for the one thing that destroys this place – Maintenance! Or lack of it. I lost count of the number of bunkers with ducks swimming in them or were just mud and weeds. Some of the fairways didn’t have a destinct line between fairway and rough, and my spine is now ruined by the condition of the cart paths.

If someone injected some finances into this place and hired some ground staff, it could potentially be one of the top course in Brisbane. However until that time, its only worth 3 1/2 stars.

PROS

  • challenging layout
  • big greens

Cons

  • course maintenance

Decided to try out the course a week ago to see why people raved about it. Wouldn’t bother heading out there again. Whilst I enjoyed the layout and course design, the condition of the course a couple of weeks after the Christmas rain was a massive letdown. Some of the fairways had as much grass as the rough and even though the course was dry there had been little work done. Spent ten minutes looking for my ball in the middle of the 14th fairway because the grass was to long. Couse management was non existant when by the 6th hole it was discovered a group of 6 druken yobbos were allowed to tee off together. By the ninth hole there were 4 groups waiting to tee off. Had to abandon the 11th hole so I could get ahead of the group while they spent 15 minutes hitting balls off beer bottles on the fairway.
I wouldn’t hold your breath for Windaroo to fix course condition issues as they can’t even put sand in their bunkers.

After only taking up golf recently I certianly bit off more than I could chew with this course and despite losing 6 balls to the water hazards I still had an enjoyable day. It is a course where you certianly need to be straight and long if you are taking on the hazards (The 18th I hit driver then tried to clear the water with a 3 iron and came up short, you nearly need to lay up twice on this hole.)

Fairways were in good condition but getting a touch dry and the greens were in good condition and quite quick.

Would certianly go back and would be much better off after playing one round there.

Really enjoyed playing here, it’s a very long course but very pleasent to play. Greens are huge so you may get some long testing putts. We moved quite quickly through the course and it seemed to flow nicely. The front nine was definately alot more testing than the back. Lost alot of balls so make sure your loaded up. For the price this is an excellent choice for the budget golfer. Will definately return.

The course was in fairly good condition after the recent rain. Some areas were a little boggy but this was to be expected. The layout was challenging and the massive greens meant that your irons had to be a long way off to miss but you could be left with a 30m putt. Would go back as the price was good and the round was quick and rewarding.

After putting off the hour drive to play hills for a while, I have to say that it is one of the best layouts in Brisbane to work out if you can play or not. As this was a one off event, we played from the blues….wow.
Long…. I probably need to repeat that. Making it longer was the Christmas rain, but this course will test your long game well and truly. There are some truly great holes here, and some very nasty ones. Normally when I play a course that it fairly rough round the edges, I remember the things that were bad, but here I really only remember the things that were good. As a high single figure golfer, this place sits pretty high in my list of top courses, mainly because I had to think more about what I was trying to do than most places. I am sure local knowledge would help a lot, but I thought the place was great. It is not the best kept place around brisbane, but if you want a solid test of your game, this is a great place to do it. The green at the moment are very slow, but pretty true, and the places you are meant to be are well looked after (off the fairways is pretty long, but green)
Great layout with great variety – If this course had the maintenance budget of others in would be close to top 5 for SE Queensland. At $30 with buggy from iseek it is a bargain

Played new years eve in rainy and wet conditions. Despite the water logged course I thought the course had plenty of variety and some really challenging holes requiring more than just, drive straight as far as you can, then hit straight to the green. There are alot of well placed water hazards that can reward those who can hit the long ball, but punish those who think they can ! (I donated several balls to the course). If I have any advice I would say avoid the travellers pies in the pro shop, I had 1 of these after the front nine and it was repeating on me for the rest of the day !

Very difficult course as a beginner. Made even more difficult by the pouring rain. Golf balls kept getting plugged into the ground, greens and bunkers were water traps, so really the course was punishing you for almost every shot! Hills Internstional, played for the first time yesterday and surprisingly was pretty impressed by the layout, it is not comparable to any resort courses we have in the South East and nor it should be. We played from the blue markers and found the course very challenging which made you hit nearly every club in your bag. We found the par 3’s as the most challenging as they were mostly 200 metres plus. Large profiled greens were a compliment to the course. Will play again as a couple of holes needed some local knowledge in regards to blind water hazards. Value was tremedous as we payed $29 each which included a cart thanks ISEEKGOLF.

Took all the guys from work for a hit today. Very enjoyable round and staff were nice and helpful. Quite a few bunkers were out of play and some were hard to the point that you didn’t leave foot prints. Greens were quite fast but consistent. Long course probably missing one or two really changelling par 3 holes. All of us shot about 5 over our normal handicap due to length of course and poor shot placement a few times. Played Hills for the first time on Saturday, a challenging and long layout although shortened a bit by it being so dry. Greens had recently been cored but at $20 Green Fee it was good value. Both nines are challenging with a good variety of holes. A couple of long par fours on the front nine – short layups of the tee with 200m+ seconds into large greens. Overall impressed by the layout – played off white tees but next time willtake on the blue tees.

As one of the arrogant members who had the mis-fortune of playing behind this group today, i think the actual facts should be known.

The group was playing in a six with two people who were obviously beginners. Nothing against learning to play the game but teaching them basic rules like not playing in groups more than 4 is a must. Two of the group later in the day then proceeded to take their shirts off and play in singlets.

Full marks to the staff at the Hills who have a little bit of pride in their course and are pro-active against slow play. Maybe if a number of people rang up and complained about you then you should be able to see where the problem lies. As a member at the Hills i am all for golf courses trying to eliminate the biggest blight on the game which is slow play.

Thankyou to the staff who get off their backsides and try to make the game of golf enjoyable to the vast majority, even if it means getting the selfish few offside. Too often at other courses you never see a course marshall as all they care about is getting your money. You guys will continue to get my membership fees and i encourage anyone else who wants to play at a course that doesnt allow groups of six who take off their shirts, to come and play at the Hills.

The other great thing that i heard is that when you join the Hills you also get to play at Windaroo Lakes for free. The course is in great condition as our mate said, but the staff are really helpful and go out of their way to provide a really professionally run golf course. Keep up the good work guys and thanks again for being so proactive.

Played the Hills today & could not be any more disappointed. Course was in reasonable enough shape but the staff was another thing all together!

Two of our group were first time golfers & as such needed a little help with the their game at times. When approached by faster groups we allowed them to play through as per normal.

This didn’t stop the pro shop attendee feeling the need to confront our group not once but twice within the front nine for slow play nor did it stop arrogant members from ringing the pro shop to complain about the speed of play not just us but numerous groups as we discovered later. No chance of us ever going back.

Great Course with a trciky layout. Acr of 77 off back tees!!!

The starting nine is definitely harder than the back nine although with the length of the course you can become fatigued making the back nine harder.

The 18th is about 600 metrese from the blue tees. A very hard par 5 with water and bunkers aswell

Great course and great practice facilities. A must play for any golfer.

The front nine is about 2 shots tougher than the back nine due to the tricky stretch of Par 4’s on holes 2, 4 and 5. The fairways are similar to other country courses but are improving due to recent rains. Ninety percent of the bunkers on the course are terrible or have been staked and you might as well be hitting off a cart path. This has been the case for several years and they have done absolutely nothing about it. The greens are large and true. One of the most challenging courses in Brisbane and you are guaranteed to use every club in your bag.

this course has the potential and setting to be great. can feel brutally long for the short hitter. many tee shots require an iron as half the holes appear to have water at driving length which is bizarre! best to get a golf buggy. a long hitting high handicapper should go here to lower there handicap as course ratings are often quite high, especially on tiger tee days when the course reaches almost 7000 metres.

I know what happened. John Daly and Tiger Woods were having a few beers one night and decided to design a course that only seriously long hitters could handle. They must have been in an evil mood. What they came up with is Hills International.

We played it on consecutive days off the whites and then off the blues. I enjoyed the first day. Trust me, if you are a short hitter like me, don't even attempt what the locals call "The Blue Roo". It is soul destroying. Most par 4's are unreachable in two or force you to ponder a pitching wedge lay up versus a 3 wood smash to carry the hazard. The greens are huge and in pretty good nick for a course that is quite frankly in the middle of nowhere. As such we hardly noticed anyone else on the course for both days. The Course surrounds the Hills Education Foundation which owns and runs it. There is a junior golf acadamey based here and the practise facilities (which are amazing) are there primarily for the juniors to turn themselves into that cross between John and Tiger which is required to master this beast. I can imagine what their coaches say to them "give it some stick boys, don't leave anything on the tee". Breeding long hitters must be their goal.

A pleasant if not daunting experience.

i have recently played the course, and can say that there are better around. Playing the course of the back tees as i done was a little bit of a challenge but not hard when you consider the length of the course 6900+. The course was very dry and hitting long drives was not a problem, and the greens being soft was easy to stop them.

It only cost $20 to play, so i can not complain to much, but after traveling the distance to play such a course i would of hoped for more.

It may be the longest course in the southern hemisphere at over 6,900 metres, but the experience of the Hills doesn't end there. My comments come after playing from the whites (6127 m).

The front nine is definitely the stronger nine, with several shots negotiating lakes and gorge like valleys. Off the whites, the par 4 2nd hole is usually a 3 wood 2nd shot over a deep water filled valley that will also catch a pushed approach.

Variety is the theme of the back nine, from the exhausting 545 metre 10th to the short dogleg par 4's in number 15 and 17 (both 305m). The best hole is the last, with a large lake on the left of the driving area and another one to cross if you want a short iron 3rd. If you don't take your second over the lake, expect a very long iron in.

Large bermuda 328 greens in excellent shape will yield more greens hit than your regular game, but water on 14 holes, 70 plus bunkers and those deep gorges, never be surprised at what the day will bring.

Definitely one of my favourite courses and great value at approx $25 a game.
