Have played at Hills many times and have been pretty happy especially for the price but i’ve been very disappointed this time. Apart from being very wet which obviously cant be helped.. The fairways were not mowed and were about as long as the rough should be on a bad day but even more frustrating was the greens keepers were mowing in around the trees and close to the club house.. pretty much everywhere but the fairways. It was a most unenjoyable game when firstly distinguishing the fairway from the rough is difficult, then spending 5 minutes looking for your ball in middle of the fairway as its a couple of inches under grass! A majority of the bunkers were mini lakes however some of the bunkers look like they have had a fresh dump of sand which made hitting out a whole lot nicer. I took a mate there for the first time after giving it a wrap and his first impression was not a good one.. he wont be returning. Overall not an enjoyable day, hopefully they get the course back in order soon.

Play was very slow on the Sunday morning. Rough was also 35 cms (too) high. Challenging holes, so overall: C-

Played Thursday at the Hills. Played a social game and enjoyed the course. Course conditions was good. Half of the sand bunker having water in them made it interesting finding your ball.

The staff members were very helpful.

I was impressed with the course and can not wait to play it again.

Have played The Hills previously, about 5 years ago and I recommend it as one of the best value courses around. The quality of the greens and fairways has improved and I still enjoy the layout. The front nine is quite challenging with water and gullies creating hazards in the most awkward places.
The length of the course isn’t a great issue from the whites but from the blues, it is a whole new ball game.
We will be back to play, their quiet days make it a great place to play golf with your mates and enjoy an ale after.

Played here on Saturday and actually teed off earlier than booked due to the lack of people around. This was the first time we had played here so we set off from the white tees. Its worth google mapping the course before going as this assisted getting from hole to hole, signage wasn’t the best.
The layout of this place was fantastic, with a great mix of length, and accuracy on most holes.
There are a few holes where your landing zone from the tee is blind, so local knowledge comes into play (none of which we had).
Another thing i liked about the course was the shot selection challenges. I used every club in my bag and lots of holes had a safe option and a Tiger line option.

OK, now for the one thing that destroys this place – Maintenance! Or lack of it. I lost count of the number of bunkers with ducks swimming in them or were just mud and weeds. Some of the fairways didn’t have a destinct line between fairway and rough, and my spine is now ruined by the condition of the cart paths.

If someone injected some finances into this place and hired some ground staff, it could potentially be one of the top course in Brisbane. However until that time, its only worth 3 1/2 stars.

PROS

  • challenging layout
  • big greens

Cons

  • course maintenance

Decided to try out the course a week ago to see why people raved about it. Wouldn’t bother heading out there again. Whilst I enjoyed the layout and course design, the condition of the course a couple of weeks after the Christmas rain was a massive letdown. Some of the fairways had as much grass as the rough and even though the course was dry there had been little work done. Spent ten minutes looking for my ball in the middle of the 14th fairway because the grass was to long. Couse management was non existant when by the 6th hole it was discovered a group of 6 druken yobbos were allowed to tee off together. By the ninth hole there were 4 groups waiting to tee off. Had to abandon the 11th hole so I could get ahead of the group while they spent 15 minutes hitting balls off beer bottles on the fairway.
I wouldn’t hold your breath for Windaroo to fix course condition issues as they can’t even put sand in their bunkers.

After only taking up golf recently I certianly bit off more than I could chew with this course and despite losing 6 balls to the water hazards I still had an enjoyable day. It is a course where you certianly need to be straight and long if you are taking on the hazards (The 18th I hit driver then tried to clear the water with a 3 iron and came up short, you nearly need to lay up twice on this hole.)

Fairways were in good condition but getting a touch dry and the greens were in good condition and quite quick.

Would certianly go back and would be much better off after playing one round there.

Really enjoyed playing here, it’s a very long course but very pleasent to play. Greens are huge so you may get some long testing putts. We moved quite quickly through the course and it seemed to flow nicely. The front nine was definately alot more testing than the back. Lost alot of balls so make sure your loaded up. For the price this is an excellent choice for the budget golfer. Will definately return.

The course was in fairly good condition after the recent rain. Some areas were a little boggy but this was to be expected. The layout was challenging and the massive greens meant that your irons had to be a long way off to miss but you could be left with a 30m putt. Would go back as the price was good and the round was quick and rewarding.

After putting off the hour drive to play hills for a while, I have to say that it is one of the best layouts in Brisbane to work out if you can play or not. As this was a one off event, we played from the blues….wow.
Long…. I probably need to repeat that. Making it longer was the Christmas rain, but this course will test your long game well and truly. There are some truly great holes here, and some very nasty ones. Normally when I play a course that it fairly rough round the edges, I remember the things that were bad, but here I really only remember the things that were good. As a high single figure golfer, this place sits pretty high in my list of top courses, mainly because I had to think more about what I was trying to do than most places. I am sure local knowledge would help a lot, but I thought the place was great. It is not the best kept place around brisbane, but if you want a solid test of your game, this is a great place to do it. The green at the moment are very slow, but pretty true, and the places you are meant to be are well looked after (off the fairways is pretty long, but green)
Great layout with great variety – If this course had the maintenance budget of others in would be close to top 5 for SE Queensland. At $30 with buggy from iseek it is a bargain

As a regular player at this course dont come to Hills thinking this is going to be a easy hitout. Its a great day out but bring your A grade game, plenty of fluids (if walking or buggy) and thats just the start.Great mind game on all holes, you think you have it worked out but it will bring down the best of players real quick.Overall bunkers are slowly being upgraded and maintenance must be huge to keep a course this size in A1 condition.Have a great game at a challenging course.

Played new years eve in rainy and wet conditions. Despite the water logged course I thought the course had plenty of variety and some really challenging holes requiring more than just, drive straight as far as you can, then hit straight to the green. There are alot of well placed water hazards that can reward those who can hit the long ball, but punish those who think they can ! (I donated several balls to the course). If I have any advice I would say avoid the travellers pies in the pro shop, I had 1 of these after the front nine and it was repeating on me for the rest of the day !

Very difficult course as a beginner. Made even more difficult by the pouring rain. Golf balls kept getting plugged into the ground, greens and bunkers were water traps, so really the course was punishing you for almost every shot! Overall a bad experience, but I can appreciate it would be a great course in not-so-boggy conditions.

Not being one of the best golfers going around, I found the course quite challenging. It was an enjoyable day, and by booking the game online the buggy came cheap, and I do recommend using a buggy.

Hills Internstional, played for the first time yesterday and surprisingly was pretty impressed by the layout, it is not comparable to any resort courses we have in the South East and nor it should be. We played from the blue markers and found the course very challenging which made you hit nearly every club in your bag. We found the par 3’s as the most challenging as they were mostly 200 metres plus. Large profiled greens were a compliment to the course. Will play again as a couple of holes needed some local knowledge in regards to blind water hazards. Value was tremedous as we payed $29 each which included a cart thanks ISEEKGOLF.

Took all the guys from work for a hit today. Very enjoyable round and staff were nice and helpful. Quite a few bunkers were out of play and some were hard to the point that you didn’t leave foot prints. Greens were quite fast but consistent. Long course probably missing one or two really changelling par 3 holes. All of us shot about 5 over our normal handicap due to length of course and poor shot placement a few times. All in all great value and worth the drive.

Played Hills for the first time on Saturday, a challenging and long layout although shortened a bit by it being so dry. Greens had recently been cored but at $20 Green Fee it was good value. Both nines are challenging with a good variety of holes. A couple of long par fours on the front nine – short layups of the tee with 200m+ seconds into large greens. Overall impressed by the layout – played off white tees but next time willtake on the blue tees.

As one of the arrogant members who had the mis-fortune of playing behind this group today, i think the actual facts should be known.

The group was playing in a six with two people who were obviously beginners. Nothing against learning to play the game but teaching them basic rules like not playing in groups more than 4 is a must. Two of the group later in the day then proceeded to take their shirts off and play in singlets.

Full marks to the staff at the Hills who have a little bit of pride in their course and are pro-active against slow play. Maybe if a number of people rang up and complained about you then you should be able to see where the problem lies. As a member at the Hills i am all for golf courses trying to eliminate the biggest blight on the game which is slow play.

Thankyou to the staff who get off their backsides and try to make the game of golf enjoyable to the vast majority, even if it means getting the selfish few offside. Too often at other courses you never see a course marshall as all they care about is getting your money. You guys will continue to get my membership fees and i encourage anyone else who wants to play at a course that doesnt allow groups of six who take off their shirts, to come and play at the Hills.

The other great thing that i heard is that when you join the Hills you also get to play at Windaroo Lakes for free. The course is in great condition as our mate said, but the staff are really helpful and go out of their way to provide a really professionally run golf course. Keep up the good work guys and thanks again for being so proactive.

Played the Hills today & could not be any more disappointed. Course was in reasonable enough shape but the staff was another thing all together!

Two of our group were first time golfers & as such needed a little help with the their game at times. When approached by faster groups we allowed them to play through as per normal.

This didn’t stop the pro shop attendee feeling the need to confront our group not once but twice within the front nine for slow play nor did it stop arrogant members from ringing the pro shop to complain about the speed of play not just us but numerous groups as we discovered later. No chance of us ever going back.

Great Course with a trciky layout. Acr of 77 off back tees!!!

The starting nine is definitely harder than the back nine although with the length of the course you can become fatigued making the back nine harder.

The 18th is about 600 metrese from the blue tees. A very hard par 5 with water and bunkers aswell

Great course and great practice facilities. A must play for any golfer.

The front nine is about 2 shots tougher than the back nine due to the tricky stretch of Par 4’s on holes 2, 4 and 5. The fairways are similar to other country courses but are improving due to recent rains. Ninety percent of the bunkers on the course are terrible or have been staked and you might as well be hitting off a cart path. This has been the case for several years and they have done absolutely nothing about it. The greens are large and true. One of the most challenging courses in Brisbane and you are guaranteed to use every club in your bag.

this course has the potential and setting to be great. can feel brutally long for the short hitter. many tee shots require an iron as half the holes appear to have water at driving length which is bizarre! best to get a golf buggy. a long hitting high handicapper should go here to lower there handicap as course ratings are often quite high, especially on tiger tee days when the course reaches almost 7000 metres.

I played at the Hills on the weekend and was very impresses with the overall presentation of the course, although the greens had been cored about 2 weeks earlier and the bunkers had no sand in them!!

The course itself though was in the best condition i have seen it and at $25 on a weekend is great value.

I know what happened. John Daly and Tiger Woods were having a few beers one night and decided to design a course that only seriously long hitters could handle. They must have been in an evil mood. What they came up with is Hills International.

We played it on consecutive days off the whites and then off the blues. I enjoyed the first day. Trust me, if you are a short hitter like me, don't even attempt what the locals call "The Blue Roo". It is soul destroying. Most par 4's are unreachable in two or force you to ponder a pitching wedge lay up versus a 3 wood smash to carry the hazard. The greens are huge and in pretty good nick for a course that is quite frankly in the middle of nowhere. As such we hardly noticed anyone else on the course for both days. The Course surrounds the Hills Education Foundation which owns and runs it. There is a junior golf acadamey based here and the practise facilities (which are amazing) are there primarily for the juniors to turn themselves into that cross between John and Tiger which is required to master this beast. I can imagine what their coaches say to them "give it some stick boys, don't leave anything on the tee". Breeding long hitters must be their goal.

A pleasant if not daunting experience.

i have recently played the course, and can say that there are better around. Playing the course of the back tees as i done was a little bit of a challenge but not hard when you consider the length of the course 6900+. The course was very dry and hitting long drives was not a problem, and the greens being soft was easy to stop them.

It only cost $20 to play, so i can not complain to much, but after traveling the distance to play such a course i would of hoped for more.

It may be the longest course in the southern hemisphere at over 6,900 metres, but the experience of the Hills doesn't end there. My comments come after playing from the whites (6127 m).

The front nine is definitely the stronger nine, with several shots negotiating lakes and gorge like valleys. Off the whites, the par 4 2nd hole is usually a 3 wood 2nd shot over a deep water filled valley that will also catch a pushed approach.

Variety is the theme of the back nine, from the exhausting 545 metre 10th to the short dogleg par 4's in number 15 and 17 (both 305m). The best hole is the last, with a large lake on the left of the driving area and another one to cross if you want a short iron 3rd. If you don't take your second over the lake, expect a very long iron in.

Large bermuda 328 greens in excellent shape will yield more greens hit than your regular game, but water on 14 holes, 70 plus bunkers and those deep gorges, never be surprised at what the day will bring.

Definitely one of my favourite courses and great value at approx $25 a game.
