The front nine is about 2 shots tougher than the back nine due to the tricky stretch of Par 4’s on holes 2, 4 and 5. The fairways are similar to other country courses but are improving due to recent rains. Ninety percent of the bunkers on the course are terrible or have been staked and you might as well be hitting off a cart path. This has been the case for several years and they have done absolutely nothing about it. The greens are large and true. One of the most challenging courses in Brisbane and you are guaranteed to use every club in your bag.

this course has the potential and setting to be great. can feel brutally long for the short hitter. many tee shots require an iron as half the holes appear to have water at driving length which is bizarre! best to get a golf buggy. a long hitting high handicapper should go here to lower there handicap as course ratings are often quite high, especially on tiger tee days when the course reaches almost 7000 metres.

I played at the Hills on the weekend and was very impresses with the overall presentation of the course, although the greens had been cored about 2 weeks earlier and the bunkers had no sand in them!!

The course itself though was in the best condition i have seen it and at $25 on a weekend is great value.

I know what happened. John Daly and Tiger Woods were having a few beers one night and decided to design a course that only seriously long hitters could handle. They must have been in an evil mood. What they came up with is Hills International.

We played it on consecutive days off the whites and then off the blues. I enjoyed the first day. Trust me, if you are a short hitter like me, don't even attempt what the locals call "The Blue Roo". It is soul destroying. Most par 4's are unreachable in two or force you to ponder a pitching wedge lay up versus a 3 wood smash to carry the hazard. The greens are huge and in pretty good nick for a course that is quite frankly in the middle of nowhere. As such we hardly noticed anyone else on the course for both days. The Course surrounds the Hills Education Foundation which owns and runs it. There is a junior golf acadamey based here and the practise facilities (which are amazing) are there primarily for the juniors to turn themselves into that cross between John and Tiger which is required to master this beast. I can imagine what their coaches say to them "give it some stick boys, don't leave anything on the tee". Breeding long hitters must be their goal.

A pleasant if not daunting experience.

i have recently played the course, and can say that there are better around. Playing the course of the back tees as i done was a little bit of a challenge but not hard when you consider the length of the course 6900+. The course was very dry and hitting long drives was not a problem, and the greens being soft was easy to stop them.

It only cost $20 to play, so i can not complain to much, but after traveling the distance to play such a course i would of hoped for more.

It may be the longest course in the southern hemisphere at over 6,900 metres, but the experience of the Hills doesn't end there. My comments come after playing from the whites (6127 m).

The front nine is definitely the stronger nine, with several shots negotiating lakes and gorge like valleys. Off the whites, the par 4 2nd hole is usually a 3 wood 2nd shot over a deep water filled valley that will also catch a pushed approach.

Variety is the theme of the back nine, from the exhausting 545 metre 10th to the short dogleg par 4's in number 15 and 17 (both 305m). The best hole is the last, with a large lake on the left of the driving area and another one to cross if you want a short iron 3rd. If you don't take your second over the lake, expect a very long iron in.

Large bermuda 328 greens in excellent shape will yield more greens hit than your regular game, but water on 14 holes, 70 plus bunkers and those deep gorges, never be surprised at what the day will bring.

Definitely one of my favourite courses and great value at approx $25 a game.
