Just came back from playing in the 2011 Hughenden open. Was a great weekend the clubhouse and the people were fantastic. Our game fees included two lunches breakfast and a dinner, and the sprerad was great.
The course has sand greens and having never played on them before I felt thet they we easy to read but speed was an issue with lots of my puts pulling up short. The fairways are long and a little rough with the rules of a club length releif on the course. There are some hard holes placed among the towering gum trees and the out of bounds fence lines. These include and elevated 228m par three over a small water hazard. Which I found to be a very hard hole. All in all a great course layout which would look spectacular with more water to encourage more grass cover. I enjoyed the two eighteen hole rounds even though i struggled on the first day of the comp. So if you are travelling through the west and would like a round I would recommend the Hughenden golf club for a hit. For a country course with volunter workers they do a great job in keeping such a large course in good condition considering the lack of water available. Wednesday afternoon is there social round and comps on the weekend.
