Such a shame that this course has fallen into its current state. Is such a good layout – some really great holes – genuine par 5’s, dog legs, mix of long and short par 3’s. Would be a great course if maintained and managed.
Current condition of the course is terrible and not worth playing. The greens are bare in many areas – they will come back in summer but saddly the rest of the course wont!
Again, all I can say is that it is a real shame. Would be great to see someone take this course over and maintain and run as a true golf club. I’d play it and I’m sure many more would

we were told the place was for sale and that the most recent deal just fell through. after playing there i can see why the deal fell over. the greens were just bad they were without a doubt the worst i have ever played on. nearly all greens were part green and part dirt. putting on them became nothing more than a laugh.
sorry but i enjoy having a hit of golf but i wont be playing here again and i would feel bad if i didnt warn others of the conditions of the greens.
if some one fixed the greens and the tee boxes…and fairways they might be able to get the course playable again

Great afternoon of golf. Course is in great condition…greens are a bit fuzzy but all in all really nice to get out for a round with out any crowds.
If you like some big long par 5’s then you should give this course a try

A great course which has plenty of ponds, creeks and bunkers. The fairways are good and the greens are great. Never crowded and you will always get straight on with no one near you. It’s a nice, quiet course with a lot of wildlife. Some long par 5’s. The only bad thing is the clubhouse and toilets.

The advantage of this course is it’s length. Some realistic par 5 (500m+) and challenging par 4’s and 3’s. Yes it’s a goat track, but that’s due to council restrictions on the use of fertilisers and the run off. But this is a great course to find a challenge, beat this course and it makes those plush green one’s all the more easier.

Played here for the first time today and it’s alright for a public course.Poor fairways, but good greens.A real test with some good dogleg holes and a couple of holes where water comes into play near the green. Try and play when it’s not too windy though.

Obviously the last couple of reviewers played Illawarra in the middle of Summer and were treated to some unimpessive conditions. I however, found the golf course to be in fabulous condition. I am under no misconceptoions that Illawarra is no championship deck, but nor did I expect it to be. There aren’t too many golf courses you can play 18 holes for 20 odd dollars this close too sydney.
Being a par 72 and having 4 reasonably lengthy par 5’s, I found the layout to offer plenty of scoring opportunities.
All the par threes offer something a little different to each other, with a couple of nice drop shots holes.
As is the common denominator in all the reviews I have read, the putting surfaces are as good as I’ve played on a public deck.
As for the practice facilities, a well maintained putting green is all they have, but again, went there for a social belt, not to reshape game.
All in all a good day out.

This course has a pretty good layout, with some long and short holes although the condition of the course is not very good.
The practice facilities are very limited, there no clubhouse and by the looks of things this course hasn't seen water for ages.
The only good thing about this course are the greens.

I agree with the first and previous reviewers’ comments. This course is 5894m Par 72 with terrible fairways/teebeds and good greens. Layout is ok, but definately is my least favourite of the 11 Illawarra courses I have played on.
Best holes are 300m 6th with creek crossing 5m in front from the bunkerless green. Followed by the 165m 7th with bunker left and dam further left is the pick on the outward nine. The 310m slight dogleg left 16th with greenside bunkers left and right with a dam 30m short left of the green is my pick on the inward nine. Other than these highlights, the course is far below average.
Played here recently (16/2/07) and paid $20 green fees. No clubhouse, limited credit card facilities, small putting green and limited water, due to its location of the top of the Woronora dam catchment will have me skipping this course, and playing over the road at Boomerang, that is if I am very desperate.

Even taking into consideration that most NSW golf courses are short on water, Illawarra GC is dry, dry, dry.
Fairways were very poor, although I must acknowledge that the greens were in very good condition.
The course layout is very basic and most of the holes are straight up and down with very little variety, highlights being the short par 4 6th, par 3 13th and par 4 16th.
Worth a hit if you are in the area.

Let me say, firstly, congrats to illawarra links golf course.
I have been playing at this golf course for over 5 years now, and every time i play, its a treat.
Unlike the easy boomerang course across the road, Illawarra is a long and somewhat challenging course.
It has everything to offer from a basic beginner to the tournament player.
Greens are nicely maintained for a true putt and speed. The fairways are nicely cut, with challenge fairway lies.
Overall a long course, but consequences are high if a stray tee shot flies off a slice.
High recommend at a decent price!!! Staff as always nice and friendly!

Fabulous course (compared to it's "girlie" short course sister across the road Boomerang) which is for the "long" golfer. This course is not for the "faint hearted" (i.e 17thbunker & offset). The fairways are a little short on grass, however this is what makes the course so unique as you must hit your irons near perfect (which 17thbunker & offset struggle to do). The greens are luscious & true, the fairways hard & fast. If you can get off the tee ok the ball will travel a mile. As 17thbunker likes to use his putter from the fairway instead of an iron he always goes through the green and blames the course ("if we were @ Boomerang the long grass on the green would've held that up" he'd say).
17thbunker & offset are obviously not up to the rigours of a long tough course & should learn there trade at the "girls" course before taking on the trechorous terrain that is Illawarra.
P.S Love the sausage rolls, your only good call offset.

ok cousre to play on if you can not get a hit accross the road at boomerang. The course is very long & the fairways are like playing on a drought stricken cow paddock. id have to agree with 17th Bunkers comment that "the course is good for bad golfers" especially left handed golfers. You dont get rewarded for playing good golf on this course. You can hit a tee shot straight & long up the fairway but still be hitting your second shot of dirt.
probably one of the best sausage rolls
you can get at any golf course in NSW though.

I try and get my friends to play here all the time because they are good golfers and I am not. I think the course is good for bad golfers and my two mates struggle here because of the bad fairways etc and it gives me a chance.
It helps me get over my horror 17th hole across the road at the other course.

$20 plus is a bit rich for a hit here.Greens are in ok condition but don't roll true.Never any body round so you can always jump on and blast away.A fair bit longer than its cross the road neighbour Boomerang. Not that challenging, relatively flat.Often you can find rock hard fairways after it's been raining but dead spots just off the fairway and spongy greens.

Have played there plenty of time and compared to it's neighbour at Boomerang, this is a goat track. The greens are fine but the odd bounces on the "Fairways" can penalise good golf.

Played course twice this week along with a lot of others and enjoyed it without the hassle of legend golfers upsetting the ambience of a beautiful coutry course close to Sydney. A secret gem that I hope stays that way.
