Innisfail’s par 70 course is a forgiving layout consisting of wide open fairways. With high annual rainfall, the course keeps in great condition and provides a great surface to hit off. The greens are consistent and a few tough pin locations make for some tough putts. The par 3 2nd is a pleasant feature hole of just 120m with gardens, water and a bridge between the tee and green. The finishing hole is uphill and a good challenge for the average golfer when hitting into a prevailing wind. The club also has a practice green and a nice verandah looking over the course. A very friendly club and well worth a hit. $15 all day golf is pretty good too.

A good simple no frills golf course. I played the course after a 6 week lay off and scored well. Fairway width is generous with an out of bounds left on the dogleg 3rd (stops hitting along the 4th fairway). Greens are small and fairly true. the thick thatched Buffalo grass roughs perch the ball welland allow the ball to be pinched off the top. The green keeper tells me the course is much harder in the wet season with the fairways not allowing roll and the rough longer and tougher. Green fees are by the honour system and cheap. Banyan Creek wanders through the course and the steep reedy banks eat balls.

Measures 2761m Par 35 (post Cyclone Larry March 2006) with 2 Par 3s ranging from 120-180m, 6 Par 4s ranging from 290-370m and the 465m Par 5 6th/15th with dogleg right ove the abandoned suger railway line with bunker greenside left.

I quite like the layout of the holes, with OOB, creeks in play with a few bunkered greens. Much better shape than Babinda GC. The 320m Par 4 4th has creek crossing fairway 100m fron the front edge green. Course is coming along well, after the March cyclone, and the greens can only get quicker with more sun coming through the cut branches.

Played here 28/7/06 and paid $10 green fees. Course has changed a few holes, and now plays with cut branches on most trees, so more sun hits the fairways and greens. Can be a little hot, with reduced shade, but now mishits do not get saved bt the trees, and now runs into OOB.

Similar to many small town courses around Queensland, Innisfail is the type of course where the company and cost are good while the course itself is not particularly challenging.

The retiree or fanatical golfer should include a visit but don't expect resort quality. Armed with a handicap of 21, I managed a 90 without the benefit of local knowledge, definitely not mentally taxing but relaxing and friendly.

No particular hole stands out but it can get hot.
