Measures 5564m Par 70 with five par 3s ranging from 133-187m, ten par 4s ranging from 254-415m and three par 5s ranging from 438-475m.
There are 18 small and slow cobra bent grass greens with no bunkers and grass teebeds with native tree-lined fairways. Not a bad layout for a volunteer-run course which closes each year for the summer from the end of September and re-opens from March/April. Fees are $10
There are some long opening outward and inward nine par 4s: the 414m slightly downhill but straight 1st (index 2); and the 415m slight dogleg right 10th (index 1). Apart from these most par 4s are less than 340m in length.
The longest hole is the 475m slight bend left 7th (index 7). Some other good holes include: the 387m sharp dogleg right 16th (index 3); and the 187m 17th (index 4). The 438m gentle bend left 18th (index 13) is a weak and short Par 5 finishing hole.
Kaniva is a small western Wimmera town of around 1000 people about 40km west of Nhill and 45km east of Bordertown. Kaniva is also 80km north (via the Little Desert National Park) of Edenhope – which is where the other local council offices are located.
Course access is 8km east of Kaniva turning into Golf Course Road. Shame they are not open all year-round as a few bunkers will make this course even more challenging for the less frequent golfers. For year round grass greens I would strongly recommend playing at Nhill.
