There are 9 black soil scrapes with the course being aptly described by the synthetic grass square mat teeblock at the 452m straight 1st with the flag visible from the tee block.

No challenges, no bunkers, no course conditioning. Barely basic golf facilities. Course access is from K.R Wilson Drive.

Karoonda is a small Murray Mallee town of around 500 people about 50km north-east of Tailem Bend, 65km east of Murray Bridge and 70km north-west of Lameroo.

Closest grass green courses are the 9-holer at Tailem Bend or the full-length courses at Murray Bridge or Lameroo.

A tidy little course that wants to be played in season, with the summer months avoided. Google maps will show you that at times the area can be quite green, but from experience it can also be very dry.
If you keep it within the fence lines there are only a few places where you can get yourself in deep scrub. However, straying from the fairway on a regular basis will leave you with a lot of very tricky, sandy lies.
The highlight of the course for mine is the elevated tee for the par 3 6th where you walk down the old railway reserve to take your shot. Perhaps unfortunately this only happens one time you play the hole, with an alternate tee at ground level the other option.
The finish also has to be noted, with the course going 3,5,3,5 over the last four holes. In fact, there are only 6 par 4’s in the 18 at Karoonda, and they are played consecutively (in two three lot bursts as it is a nine hole course).
If the area looks green, definately have a hit at Karoonda, not a bad wander at all.
