Having played at Kempsey a couple of weeks before the previous reviewer, I agree that the course is in its best condition for many years, with much of the credit due to the new superintendent. The classical layout by Arthur W East has stood the test of time and provided the most flexible playing options of any course that I have ever played. The clubhouse has been refurbished,and provides all the amenities that any golfer could ask for after a game, together with an always friendly atmosphere.

A delightful country track. I played with some frineds on Boxing Day and had a great day out. Ive played the course a handfull of times and would have to say it’s currently in the best condition i’ve seen it in the last 10 years. The greens were a pleasure to putt on.
When the highway bypasses Kempsey the course will only get better as the holes adjacent will be much quieter. Dont expect to shoot the round of your life as the course has a few tricks up its sleeve like 2nd & the dog leg left 12th.
They have agreat Sunday deal for unliomited holes after a certain time – a great idea for a Sunday Session!

Many thanks to the "Millionaires" for letting me join them in the comp on Thurs 2/9. The course itself lies smack bang in the average country town golf course category. Probably caught it at a bad time though as it was pretty dry and preferred lies were the go.A fairly easy course to get around but enough tricks to keep you on your toes. Don’t know if it was the condition or a case of the yips but I had a shocker on the greens. Affordable and friendly. Extra half a star for the company! The Relic.

What a great country track.

I played on a fantastic Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago and couldnt have spent the day better.

Before teeing off i had a put & the course Pro – John from memory came out and was chatting to me about the area and gave me a few tips on my putting stroke that have saved me 3-4 putts a game – i will definately be back to Kempsey soon.

The course was in great condition and wasnt as easy as i had expected. The course has some very tricky holes espically the par 3’s – of note the 3rd (18 on the card) much harder than i gave it credit for and walked away with a tripple then there is the 16th a long 200m dead straight hole with no sand – dont be frightened to hit a low wood here as i can see members struggling here from week to week.

Overall a great day out & a grewat country course – many Big courses could learn a thing or 2 from here on service.

This Course has a classic layout with magnificently tree lined fairways. Its downfall is turf condition. The fairways are ok if there has been rain, otherwise prefered lies are in place. The greens and tees are on average quite poor. Play all day for $11.

Measures 5874m Par 72 from the back, where I played it, with 4 similar Par 3s ranging from 130-200m, 10 Par 4s ranging from 290-405m and 4 boring Par 5s ranging from 455-485m. Fairways are thin and dry, greens are carpet-like mounds and teebeds need be flatter and greener. There are more kangaroos on the course than bunkers and good lies combined.

Course lacks a challenge, sure it provides the odd challenge (7th, 13th, 14th) but with 13 BUNKERLESS greens on the course, it does not really test the golfer.

Best holes here are the 320m 13th with dogleg right to a narrow tree-lined driving area, the 455m Par 5 14th is good too with a large gully in front of the green. The 200m downhill 16th is good too, with the clubhouse overlooking your teeshot. The pick of the outward nine is probably the 340m 7th with a downhill teeshot to a creek cutting across the fariway about 50m short of the green. Once again, all these mentioned holes could deperately use a few bunkers.

Played here 27/9/06 and paid $17.60 green fees and after 2.5 hours, I walked off the 18th green, feeling unchallenged and wanting more. Thankfully, I found 9 interesting holes Frederickton GC 5 minutes from Kempsey.

Kempsey course has a unique feature not appreciated by previous reviewers. You can play 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 14, 15 and 18 holes each starting and finishing at the clubhouse without playing the same hole twice. What a boon to time-poor or older golfers! As an ex-member and now a travelling golf course agronomist, I know no other coure like this. Some present-day and so-called golf course architects could learn a lot at Kempsey. Combined with irrigated fairways, easy walking, good greens (Kel Nagle once said they were then the best in Australia) and friendly locals, Kempsey is worth a visit - you might never leave. Well I agree with the previous reviewers comments but if you like a course that is not packed where you can get on and have some interesting holes then Kempsey should be on your list.

There are some testing holes eg. 12th and 11th but overall if your a middle handicapper and like to play with your partner on a course that has good greens, forgiving farways then Kempsey is ok.

Note: I played this course in February 2003, just after the drought had broken. It was very wet. I'll avoid commenting on the course condition in this review.

I've driven past this course a hundred times on various journeys, but never been tempted to play until this time. It doesn't look like much from the road, and looks do not deceive in this instance.

This is a very typical, average country course. Fairly short, small greens, few water hazards or hidden tricks. What you see is what you get.

That doesn't mean you can't have fun or test your game. There are also lots of trees on the edge of most fairways, some decent uphill and downhill climbs. The par 3's, in particular, are quite testing.

As a bonus, the local kangaroos seem to be interested in how you are playing.
