After playing Kilcoy Golf Course following a rainy week previously, I was expecting to find a relatively quaint country town course that had a fair amount of greenness to it.
Lamentably, after a pleasant drive (about an hour and a half from the Western Suburbs of Brisbane) what I found was a brown spance of mountainous land that only a goat would feel at home on. Granted the greens were green and the tee-boxes were somewhat level, everything in between was a dissappointment.
Hitting a good drive counted for very little, as the arid fairway/dirtway did not provide for many good lies. The layout of the course negated all challenge thrown at you by the up and down contour of the course, as any decent drive easily cleared the valleys or shot over the hills. So essentially, it plays like a flat course, which a heck of a lot of leg-killing hill climbing.
Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh, but for my money and time, if you are hell-bent on playing a country course, I would suggest lessening your travel time and playing either Gatton or Laidley. Or, as you've made the effort to drag yourself out of bed early anyhow, why not head on up to Toowoomba (about two hours from Brisbane) and play Middle Ridge (extremely highly recommended - betters many of Brisbane's courses).

A quiet little nine hole course nestled into the hills of Kilcoy.
The course is in need of water badly, but what course is not during the biggest drought recorded in SE Qld.
The course is set up for for the non golfer through to the intermediate range golfer.
I would recommend this course for any social clubs or social players looking to get out of the rat race for a fun game of golf.
