Not too far from Perth, this is probably one of the best mid range courses in the metro area. A good test and in very good condition, probably due to its semi private nature.

The course is quite long at 6271m, with two par 3s playing up the hill.

It would be possible to change the hole numbering to avoid the rather long crossover hikes between holes, but the design of the course is good. Some bunkers and water in good positions.

Lots of shady trees to cool you down in summer!

I was a jnr member there 10 years ago and the course was a tad run down and the facilities old. I played there not to long ago and found it so much better. It’s come a long way and is in excellent condition. Very underrated and well worth the drive down to have a hit.

A reasonable course with fairways and greens in excellent condition. There is a stretch of 4 holes (12th-15th) where there are big hills to negotiate, with a lot of sideways slope and so this detracts from the rest of the course. This would be a good second tier course, not quite up to the main resort style courses that can be found in the area, but at $28 green fees it is very good value. We walked the course and, apart from the previously mentioned 4 holes, the walk is not difficult

I moved to Calista to be close to the course. I liked the ’feel’ of it from the start; plenty of trees and wildlife; the course is also fairly quiet- with Mondays and Fridays the best for non-members.
This course offers everything you could want from a golf course and is a stern test of your abilities – particularly with the uneven fairways that will require you to be able to hit from all types of stances and ball positions – you will need to drive very accurately to put yourself on a flat lie for your second!
There are few fairway bunkers and the rough is usually friendly if you avoid the trees which over-hang many fairways, so here is a good place to really crush your drives.
Approach shots should be in the right spots on the small/medium greens – which, although smaller than most courses, make up for with speed…very fast and very easy to three putt!
The 12th green is unique – the most 4 putted green that i know of!
Alas, the committee has removed the bunker that caught all the heavy handed putts…a travesty…disgraceful act by the committee.
Overall a good and difficult course that requires an all round golfing ability to score well.

being a member here is a great challenge for the lower marker, having brought interstate and local golfers here they have loved it.

greens are medium size and with a change of green keepers a few years ago they have tamed the beast and turned it into a great track.

greens constantly run above 10 on the stimp especially on the back nine which is definately the harder nine.

there are some great holes but the key is the par threes score well on those and your card will look good

also driving the ball well is crucial as the par fours play long especially in winter.

a few more bunkers especially in the long hitters driving zone would make the course very hard

the course record of 67 which was set just recently by one of the talented young guns is truly warranted

Played Kwinana Golf Course a number of times after work in Rockingham during 2007. I was very amazed at the layout and condition of this course, as by driving around it, all you see is scrub, grass trees, sand, sand and well, just MORE SAND! However this course is a hidden gem of WA! At 6271m and with a par of 72, the length and undulation of this track will give even the better player a test and a half, especially if the wind gets up on this kikuyu track.

The best hole for me was the par 5 12th, which is a dogleg left after the drive and plays steeply uphill for the 2nd/3rd shots. The smallish green is at the top of a hill with a bunker short-right. If you get on the wrong side of this flag when the greens are quick you will be sorry as I was if you miss. Its impossible to stop the ball and you could even end up off the green and running back down the hill towards that bunker!

The par 4’s on this course are a tremendous strength, boasting some great doglegs left and right, with wide open fairways but sandy unforgivable rough. The bigger hitters can blast away to carry the taller trees and will be a short iron from the green at the most.

Some of the long, downhill par 4’s provide great asthetics and a true appreciation of the course’s vegetation. The finishing holes to each nine are brilliant. They are each dogleg left par 5’s with tall trees, grass trees and scrub in play for the wayward 2nd shot on each side of the fairway. The 17th hole is a 400m+ par 4 and is index one. It is very long and I couldn’t get there with a long iron. It definitely deserves it’s rating of index 1 and thats after a flushed drive!

The greens are about medium sized and are a good pace, quite true and very grainy. In fact this course is the perfect test if you dont putt firmly or the grain will make you miss time and time again, even from close range. So if you putt well here you have definitely earned your stats.

This is a very interesting course and boasts very good value for money membership. It is one of the best public access courses in the Perth region and one of the longest. You must hit the driver well all day or you will make heaps of bogies on the longer holes, so remember that if you go there. Kwinana is no Joondalup but deserves 5 stars due to its layout and condition. Its the hidden gem of Perth. It is definitely worth a look if your in the area or have a day to play somewhere different in a competition. If you know the course well you will get full value for good shotmaking.

PROS

  • Good value for money, a great test, well kept course and good layout

Cons

  • A bit of a drive from Perth but well worth the trip!

I played there today for the first time after reading the reviews on here and I was very pleased with my day. First of all the value for money is excellent, this course is cheaper than most other courses around and superior. The fairways are very lush and green and also have plenty of give in them to allow you to get under the ball. The greens were very fast and extremely challenging, you really have to have a great touch to get it close or it could roll on quite a way. There is also a good variety of holes, there is a lot of dog legs and not many dead straight holes which keeps it interesting. The rough is fairly forgiving in most areas bar a few and for once I didn’t lose a ball. There are also quite a few long holes which is a nice change from most of the metro area courses.

This is one of the best public courses around the Perth area and I would highly recommend it, an excellent course with excellent rates what more could you ask for.

I’m a member at kwinana and i would have to say this is brilliant. i like the fast greens which makes it easy to read your puts and also the fairways are in really good condition now but it is also a challenge for some golfers such as myself i play off 25 and i’m small for my age and because the fairways don’t run you need to carry the hole way for your shot be good and because it is a long course i’m not a big hitter but i like this course a lot and is probably a five star from me.

I have played this course afew times now and I am loving it. It is a longer course than others in the area, with the back nine being much hillier. The course is in top condition with the greens running very smoothly and true. There are a nice combination of dog legs, tricky greens and idylic pin placements to make the layout exceptional. My favourite hole is the 12th par 5. For the big hitters, it can be reached in two quite easily, however, the large, sloping green runs into a bunker making the decision to lay up a sensible, yet less rewarding option.

I have played this course often, and consider it one of my favourites – especially in winter, when it really bares it’s teeth!

It starts well with the easiest of the par fives and, apart from the difficult (index 3) second hole, generally works you harder as you go along. All the fairways are uniform in grass cover and depth, and a constant mix of lies to test every shot and club. The greens can play at slightly different speeds – the difficult par 5 12th is quick and deadly for you heavy handed putters! The par 3 14th also demands alot of respect.

The sand bunkers are consistant and adorn 12 of the 18 holes.

Overall, this is a great course for every golfer and a very pleasant days outing.

TIP; most tee shots are best placed centre/left on the fairways.

Kwinana golf course is a great course and a real surprise. The challenge is great, and needs to be played well, or your day can very easily go wrong. Lots of doglegs can get you into trouble, but fortunatly, not much water. A real well designed course and well worth a look.

I have played at this golf course and it is very demanding because if you hit one bad shot you could be in the tree’s. I also like this course because it gave me a challenge with all the hills that you’ve got to predict where the ball go’s and the best hole of all is the 18th. i would say this because if you don’t get a good shot off the tee then you mite be in a little trouble. I can give you a tip about this course is that if you hat the rough this is a good course because the fairways are wide and that with mainly all the par 5’s i would try get your ball as closs as you can to the green in 3-4 shots otherwise you’re stuffed. on one of the holes it is a very good hole for anybody who slices the ball because you have to hit over a bend and it has a big right hand corner there so if you slice you will be fine. When playing there and you’re in the rough be careful because the tree’s over hang. I would rate this course a 4-5 star rating simply that it is a beautiful looking course and that it would be a very good one to learn on.

I have played this course several times now. It's long and demands a lot of respect. Expect to test your abilities. Have found that this course rates 4-5 strokes above your current handicap. This is not an easy short length course like a lot of others around. But don't be afraid...

Greens tend to be smaller, fairly fast and true, fairways in good order, enough bunkers to test your abilities, and a pleasant well tree'd walk.

This is a private/public course and is well maintained by very proficient staff (by the looks of it).

Facilities are good and have been, and are still being, upgraded. Has good clean lockers and bar facilities.

I enjoyed the test immensely and hope you do as well.
