Played a few sundays ago with my social club, which shall remain nameless and headed into the shop to get a drink and pay my green fee only to see the head pro being rude and ignorant to the social players in the shop, in my view this is very unprofessional and has a detrimental look for the course.

I played this course yesterday and noted that there are some poor reviews of the course. Whilst I agree that the fairways were patchy in spots and the tee boxes weren’t flash overall I found the course fun to play. I do have a couple of other criticism, one being the bunkers. The sand in the bunkers was hard and compact and needs replacing. I wouldn’t call these bunkers. Another criticism is the layout of the course, being broken into three sections divided by roads. It was a confusing layout and more signage to direct you to the next tee box would have been good. I found the course challenging, even though there was no major water hazards and the rough was forgiving. The fairways are tight and tree lined and you need to hit very straight. The greens were in great condition. Even though my score card was embarrassing and I played well above my handicap, I had fun and will be back again.

Played Leonay Wednesday for the first time.
The greens were fantastic, excellent coverage and speedy.
As this was my first time out here i did get lost on a couple of occasions, finding the next tee box, (some signage required) a quick phone call back to the Pro and he was out in a cart i was headed in the right direction, very helpful guy and great service.
Only short but but no means easy, you still need to make your shots and hole ur putts.
I will most definately be back in the near future, the course got the better of me this day but thoroughly enjoyed myself out there.

Recently played Leonay, only to be dissapointed. Use to be a member there a few years back, this place has gone down hill. The greens were running well and true but had alot of weed growing throughout.
Fairways in my opinion are cut too short as majority are bare or mud.
The rough is very long and added at least 30min too my round in having to look for balls.
The 2 young men who served me in the pro shop were very accommodating in helping me and did everything they could to make me feel welcome at their course.
I played on a Saturday afternoon and at $32.50 for 18 holes i fail to see value for money.

played at leonay this previous monday. geez where do i start the proshop staff was very un helpful to say the least. as for the course wow!! it was terrible! tee boxes were practically dirt, greens were full of weeds and i would of been better off putting in the rough they were that long and rough. fairways were pure mud, and bunkers were what an average golfer would call dust bowls. overall i will never go back to this dump as i was unimpressed.
i recommend that anyone considering playing this course should think again!

Played the front 9, 17 and 18 several times earlier in the year during daylight savings ($10 after 3pm) and was reasonably pleased with the layout. Longest hole on the frond 9 is a mid-length par 4 of 367m, and that is made slightly smaller by virtue of a downward slope. Greens and fairways were in good nick. The 18th is a par 3 of around 190m, and a slight downhill slope means that club selection can be tricky to a wide yet shallow green. Not much room for error with narrowish fairways and several out of bounds areas.

Played front nine and could’nt get through the gate to the 10th! Went back down the 4th and into the carpark. Greens were fairly peppered, probably because the course is so short. Interesting layout, tight, but overall I thought it was worth $10 bucks.

Played there on the 8th June with a mate and ended up joining two other blokes for the round who were members of the course.

I agree with everyone in regards to the physical length of the course, the Par 5’s could be a bit longer but at the end of the day it was still a good challenging course.

When I played, the Greens were in superb condition and the fairways and roughs were everything I expected. The staff were friendly, and the little food shop at the 9th hole had really great hot dogs :)

All in all, a good day out at a good course. Would recommend this course for someone wanting a change from inner Sydney.

Played there for the first time in a couple of months and was quite impressed. The fairways were quite lush giving nice lies throughout and the greens were hard fast making them a challenge for all levels of golfers. Being a reasonably long hitter of the ball and a person not afraid to travel, i have always enjoyed the challenge that is Leonay. Unlike other courses in the area, you can not just unload on every hole as you will most likely end up in some trees and end up chipping out. It feels like every hole here is has trees then houses so if you are extremlly wide you can be in trouble. However on the oppisite side, being a shorter course, it does not rule out shorter hitters from haveing a decent round. I have played in some of the major open days and seen some very low handicap golfers have some very high scores Overall i think well worth a look for all level of golfers seeking a challenge and a pleasant walk with nice veiws of the mountains, Neapean river and a general pretty course

I agree with you LonghitterC2; the course is shorter than others in the district and certainly a great leveller is the tightness of the fairways. To me that’s what golf should be about; not how long you hit but the accuracy and tact to navigate a challenging layout. There’s guys I play with that carve the ball left and right on wide open courses and don’t get penalised. They need their radar switched on at Leonay. Place it well when hitting of the tee and don’t miss the greens in any no-go zones otherwise this ‘short’ course will be the winner.

As a someone with a 27HCP I recently played Leonay GC in a corporate day and had a great time the length of the course still had many challenges but allowed me to still be in the game unlike some of these longer courses where I would normally struggle, the greens rolled true and what you read you got congrats on a great suburban course

I’m surprised that Leonay has preferred lies in play considering how much cover is on the fairways. I guess coming into winter like all clubs the fairways will feel the pinch but they’re in a great condition to compete with any clubs in the nepean district. The greens are also in great condition and are nice and slick. Leonay is known for it’s slick greens and the course staff are living up to that reputation.

I have played at leonay a couple of times recently. The commenst here are old and from the drought days. Leonay has a new greenkeeper who has the course in very good condition. Its a challenging course that requires straight driving…sorry guys, you cannot hot the next fairway and recover. The club has been renovated and all I I enjyed the experince very much and wil be back soon.

i have to say i have never been a fan of leonay but at the moment the course is disgusting never have i seen so much GUR on a golf course that is without the work being carried out on the course the temporary tee on the 9th was mud and rocks any area of fairway not GUR was very bare, the only reason it gets a dot is the greens which apart from the 16th were fairly consistent, agree with previous reveiw don,t bother try royal werrington instead

The fairways are in poor condition, When only playing the front 9 youâÄôre left in "no man's land" to get back to the club house. I played their for the last time on the weekend after I was abused and threatened by two members who didn't like being told to stop hitting up on us.

Played here weekend of 12/3/06 and played off back blue member plates, and it only measured 4920m Par 67 with 7 Par 3s ranging from 105-195m, NINE Par 4s ranging from 265-375m and two Par 5s ranging from 440-450m. Course is flat and short with two distinct nines. The short front nine lacks a challenge and options off the tee, with similar clubs used off most holes. Most holes are treelined both sides. The 185m 9th hole is probably my pick of the outward nine, with a narrow opening with a creek and bunker right (both not visible from the tee). The back nine is a little more interesting with a four par 3s that need a different club at each tee. The shortest hole 105m 14th is probably one of the better holes on the course with a creek in front of green and thick bush either side of green. The two par 5s are really weak in distance and challenge with slight doglegs, but are generally very easy to par.

An unusual layout with the 9th green quite far away from the clubhouse, and with the back nine having to cross quiet residential streets 3 times. The course is well maintained with flat lush teebeds, fairways and slightly slow gently sloping greens, but decent green fees for unlimited holes after 4pm $11, may warrant another 2.5 hour visit if in the area again. Great clubhouse facilities too.

I have joined this course having played golf for a couple of years and have found it most enjoyable and challenging course. You are punished for not hitting it straight because the course has narrow fairways.

I wish it had some water hazards but otherwise I find the course in good nick. I can't understand what the other reviewers had gripes about...

I disagree with some of the other reviews people have made about this short and neat course. This course is one that is able to fool you on one hole while you struggle, where others are your holes to improve and get back on par. This course has undergone repairs and is anlways changing it has great potential and is situated in a peaceful enviroment. I am a regualr playing at this par 67 golf course and i will continue this because it has improved my game dramatically. I think people should give it a chance and really see its true potential because one day this golf course will come into its prime.

I recomend this course to anyone of any ages.

I played earlier in the year and though it was potentially a good little couse that was rough around the edges. Played there last week and found great improvement, I found the greens played true and the surface was the equal of any other course in the area.

The fairways are extremely tight which I found challenging compared to others in the area where you don't have to be as accurate.

A pleasant surprise and definately worth a visit

I played here with our social club in early July. This was the first time I had played here, so I was expecting nothing. I admit that it isn't in the same category as Penrith or Glenmore, but for a small council course, they aren't doing too bad. You can avoid trouble by hitting something other than your driver. For example, I play off 12 and parred the last 6 holes!! Some of the public markers were very far foward (eg a par 5 being reduced to just over 400m), so it would be worth seeing the course from further back.

I agree with the first reviewer. The 9th and 10th are the best holes for mine.

9th - Narrow par 3, with a creek right and steep hill above the green to the left.

10th - Elevated par 3, with 2 bunkers right and a slope from right to left. Very difficult when playing into the wind!!!

I do enjoy playing at Penrith more, but for a quick, social round in the area then come here.

What can you say about Leonay Golf Club. Really it is the laughing stock of the Penrith region they wouldn't reduce any fees for me yet when my mate who is a member at Leonay plays at Penrith he gets a discount. Cost $16.50 for a course that has seen better days. Who wants to cross roads to get to different sides of a golf course but to do it 4 times that is a joke. Never playing there again and I recommend playing at Glenmore, Penrith and Wallacia before there. Only play there if you are desperate.

Poor course short tight and holes all over the place go if you want.

Very disapointing to see this once promising club go downhill so quickly. Rude ground staff, crabby fairways, rock hard patchy greens and dirty half filled bunkers mean I will not be playing here again, or recommending it.

The course now only measures 4920m, still with a par of 67. Some reasonable par 3's -2nd 132m, 9th 183m, 10th 164m & 18th 193m, but the par 4's & especially the par 5's are too short.
