I played this course in November Last year and although I said I wasn’t impressed I did say I would play the course again. Well I did yesterday and twice is enough for me. Nothing has changed and the fairways are still boggy and the course needs major drainage work. The grass on the fairways was very short and bare in many places. The greens were too long and bumpy. I would rather play on artificial turf! I feel extremely lucky to be a member of a course such as Katoomba that is so well maintained.

Sticking to the course review without personal jibes at the prostaff…measures 5987m Par 72 with five par 3s ranging from 124-165m, eight par 4s ranging from 292-400m and five par 5s ranging from 466-501m.
The course has patches of couch grass with mostly kikuyu fairways which are bare and thinly covered on most holes. The bent grass greens are medium sized and play a little slow. The kikuyu teebeds are worn out with many dirt patches. The short-to-medium sized tree-lined parkland style layout has mostly wide fairways and the course has 5 bunkers – all on the front nine.
As mentioned 3 out of the 5 par 3s play downhill to the greens, whilst the par 4s are the most challenging aspect of the course and the par 5s are a good length.
Minor correction: the 124m 2nd (index 16) has white stakes (GUR) in front of the bunkerless green not OOB as mentioned earlier – there used to be a bunker here, but is now out of play and filled with water from all the rains.
Like others, I am not a fan of the 389m blind dogleg right 8th (index 3) with internal OOB over the dam on the left (which is 200m from the tee) and another rather unreasonable internal OOB on the dogleg corner rough – how do you know if you’ve reached the fairway from over the dogleg corner off the tee…beats me…there is private homes on the dogleg corner so insurance costs where probably a factor rather than a good golf hole here!
Highlights here include: the 324m straight 3rd (index 11) with OOB railway line left with 2 bunkers guarding the front of the green, the 129m 9th (index 15) with 2 bunkers left to a long narrow green, the 374m slightly uphill but straight 14th (index 1) has slight fairway slope to the left through a narrower driving area to a bunkerless green and the 373m slightly downhill 16th (index 5) with a small dam on the dogleg left corner with the OOB Oakley Forest Road far left to another bunkerless green.
The short 292m 17th and the 162m 18th are rather weak finishing holes. The course provides no real challenges for the serious golfers with all greens except the 3rd, 5th and 9th unbunkered with wide fairways and minimal hazards in play.
Lithgow is on the western edge of the sandstone country of the Blue Mountains with about 11500 people with an elevation of around 920m above sea level. The golf course is at an elevation of about 940-980m above sea level about 3.5 kilometres north of the city. The maximum temperature that day was 8 degrees with light drizzle and southerly winds gusting up to 35km/h, so it can get chilly in the winter months.
Played here 12/6/2011 with $22 green fees for 18 holes or $17 green fees for 9 holes. There are better conditioned more challenging courses in Wentworth Falls and Blackheath less than 1 hour away.

played the "course" about 2 months ago i have put the word course in inverted comers as this is not a golf course more like a roughly mown paddock. the young 19 year old prefessional in the shop had every group running 25 mins late i should have taken this as a sign and hopped back into the car and gone to a real course the greens were as bumpy as a 15 year olds face going through pubity with pimples. fairways were no good as were the tee boxes. very displeased with my experince and wont be back

Have to disagree about the staff EPL i went for a round at Lithgow one fine Sunday afternoon in April only to find the Pro Shop littered with Juniors, sitting around the shop watching TV. I felt like i walked into a kindy class or crech, not a Pro Shop. However the pies were to die for.
Once out on the course was very disapointed the only thing missing from the fields were the grazing cattle, this is not a golf course.

Played the front nine while passing through Lithgow. There was a lot of rain a few days before, and the course was very damp.
There is a dip on the fairway in front of the green on the 2nd which was not visible but was marked out of bounds because of a pool water, which was an unpleasant surprise. The 8th has been modified, with out of bounds on the right (private property) and a lake on the left of the fairway. Like NICHOLSTONES, didn’t like it that much. Decent but slow greens, average fairway and friendly staff. All in all a decent course for a quick hit in the Mountains.

This is a very interesting layout, however they do not have reticulation so the fairways can be variable. We played here after lots of rain and the grass cover was good. If anything it was too lush so there wasn’t much run and the length of the grass was like rough at most other courses. The greens were in good condition, but a little on the slow side. We played in the Saturday comp and the members were very friendly and welcomed vistors. It is quite an easy walk and green fees of $25 are reasonable. There has been a new housing estate built next door and so the 8th hole has been modified. The changes make this hole a poor golf hole, however it is the only hole that we didn’t like.

Played this week for the first time and the course was green with all the recent rain, even boggy in some spots. Even with all the rain there are some very hard bare areas on the course. I have to say it is a fairly boring course which offers few challenges. There are a few dams, but unfortunately they aren’t used to create any challenge. I will play there again, but wouldn’t travel a long way to do so.

Excellent layout with a mix of long par 5’s, tricky par 4’s and good little par 3’s. Can get a little dry due to the lack of water but is presented in best possible condition throughout the year. The greens are as good as many top courses and are certainly the best of any course in the area. Beautiful large trees line the fairways and the family of kangaroos add a special touch for many visitors.Only 2 hours from the centre of Sydney. Put this one on your list to play.

With no watered fairways the course can be fairly dry depending on time of year and rain etc but do not let that influence your decision to play at Lithgow.
It has a great layout with a good mix of both short and long par 3's, 4's and 5's, doglegs and straight, with nice receptive and rewarding greens. Some of the par 3 play down hill making them shorter.
The course has some demanding driving holes particularly on the back nine. With the most daunting tee shot coming at the index 1 hole 14th. Arguably the most difficult driving hole in NSW with a narrow corridor of tall trees and branches to thread the ball through, especially when the markers are right back.
Nice challenging course, well worth a look.

was pleasantly surprised by Lithgow GC. Conditions not bad, a little overgrown in places and in need of a mow. Greens pretty good. Course didn’t handle water well. It is an attractive course that plays through open woodland. Has nice views of sorrounds.
Fairways a little patchy and surface not amazing but for a reasonably small town this course is not bad. Some good challenging holes that often require length and accuracy off tee for a second shot.
Worth a visit but better courses up the mountains eg Wentworth Falls, Blackheath and Katoomba.
