Perhaps it's because they're relocating / changing some of the course in the near future, or perhaps it's because of the water restrictions, but the course appeared to me to be in a fairly ragged state. The fairways and surrounds are suffering the most, but this affects the overall impression of the course. As a sandbelt style course maybe I was expecting something more, but Lonsdale appeared to be a standard suburban course much like you would find in the suburbs of any city in Australia.

The staff and others playing the course that I met were friendly and even though it was Easter Sunday, the pace of play was fine. Fortunately, the wind wasn't blowing so there weren't too many difficulties to be had.

As expected from a sandy based course there are plenty of bunkers and little fairway undulations to keep things interesting, and the greens are nice and fast with subtle breaks that torment a poor putter like me. I especially liked holes 5 and 6 which are routed beside the lake. Hole 5 is a short par 4 which challenges you to get as close to the green as you can with your drive, but has the water lurking to the right for any mishits.

A nice course, set in a pleasant location and value for green fee money, but not in the best shape at the moment.

I played this course early Jan 05 on a day with a hot notherly blowing above average. The front nine was open to the main strength of the wind and called for very thoughtful shot making. I was amining irons to the green approx thirty metres plus away from the green to allow for the strong wind. The challenge was exciting and enjoyable.

The Back nine was a little more forgiving sheltered slightly from the north wind. This course is fairly tight from the tee and demands accuacy most of the time. If you miss the fairway be prepared for a sandy lie under coastal tee trees and a possible extra shot. Greens are true and fair don't expect them to be slow.

Enjoy a midweek round and take your digital camera as there are some spectacular views. I liked the 'Green Keepers Suggestion Box' located in the middle of a water hazard on the back nine.

If your planing a round here make sure your game is up to scratch for an exciting challange.

I was lucky enough to play this course recently. But with Coastal Storms and incredible cross winds, made the experience very challenging. Tough, played one shot and managed to rip the back of my shirt on a tree. This course may not be as long as some others, but it still commands a lot of respect. Look forward to my next visit.

If you are looking for a short course that demands skillful shotmaking to small greens, and precise driving & long irons off the tee, Lonsdale is your course.

I don't know one visitor that has left Lonsdale unsatisfied. With a course record of 2 under the card, 70, Lonsdale at know stage has let any quality player take advantage of it.

For all types of players, male & female, Lonsdale is the course for you. Not too mention, in the near future Lonsdale will be re-building a championship course through Mike Clayton Golf Design. It will be a quality Links course similar to the Melbourne sand belt courses, and will have a club house over looking Lake Victoria making it an exciting prospect for future members & guests.

Good Golfing too all,

Regards,
