WOW What a great little course.I have not played Lord Howe for 5yrs but what a great improvement. The condition of the fairways and greens are as good as you would find at any group 1 course. There is a good selection of hire clubs and you have to love the honesty box system.A lovely little clubhouse that only opens 2 nights a week with the best meals and views on the island as well as a new huge balcony adds to the whole experience.Throw in great views and friendly locals this is a must on any golfing holiday.

Lord Howe Island is the greatest place that I have ever visited. The people are your average no nonsense Aussie who is never going to brownnose a tourist and patronise you. The course has some really gorgeous holes – in particular the second hole and the eight- both par 3’s and simply postcard perfect. If you are a golfer, the only excuse you have for not playing this couse is because the Mount Gower Walk (no picnic!!!!) broke you!!!

PROS

  • Some simply breathtaking holes.

Cons

  • Course does not drain well

Nasty little tribe at this course. Watch out yachties. Anyone not paying for their accomodation are not welcome on the course or island for that matter. My dad and I were paired with a member who started out quiet pleasant but as soon as he asked us where we were staying and we pointed to the yacht in the bay, the mood turned decidedly sullen. After the round, we were left to enjoy our schooners alone as the locals looked down their nose at us as if we were a couple of whale turds washed up on their precious island. Nice place...strange people

If you are looking for a golfing holiday Lord Howe Island probably isn't the place for you, but, if you're going to Lord Howe anyway, throw a few irons and balls in bag and take them along. The 12 hole (no par 5's)course is short so you definately won't need the driver and the faiways and greens are only average but the views are the best of any golf course I have played, sitting underneath twin mountains and overlooking a beautiful horseshoe bay of touquoise water. The honesty system applies for green fees with a money box provided. There's a chook run on friday afternoon and a comp on every Saturday and Sunday. So if you're going over take the clubs, you'll enjoy the round and the views and friday afternoon beers on the balcony of the demountable clubhouse to watch the sunset is a must.
