I was very disapointed with Lowood golf club .When i arrived the clubhouse was close and had to pay at the honour box down stairs.Lucky i had correct change so how many people go somewhere else. There was some guy driving around who i thought was the greenkeeper he was not doing much and only wearing thongs as he was working. The bunkers had not been raked and dogs had been through so i was left with a horrible shot. For $20 think i will somewhere of better value.

Situated about 20 minuted drive NW of Ipswich. Easy to find, follow the signs, you can't miss. A round of golf during the week costs $18, cart hire for same $25. A tad expensive for country course. Upon arrival, you find a twin storey club house with standard country facilities. The staff are friendly and the pro shop is basic. I chose to play on the hottest day Ipswich area had for 3 months and with little shade relief on the course, bring water and sunscreen.

The course is only 9 holes, however, holes 2, 7 and 9 have alternative tee off areas which basically alter the way one would play the hole. Most the tee areas are extremely basic while most the fairways were reasonable and usually flat (some are nice, others are just ok), with one or two dog legs. The par 5 fairway's were long and required great long shots to reach them in 2. I could not do it. The greens were surprising. I noticed some of the greens seem well looked after while other were a bit patchy and dry. All played slowly. The 2nd green was sloping up from front to rear on a moderate angle which really let you attack it without the risk of run through. A couple of the greens were undulating though the centre and required good reading. Over all the course was nice but could do with better maintenance. Only the 2nd hole had a water hazard while nearly every other hole had challenging and well positioned bunkers either beside the green or affected approach shots to the green, especially on the long par 5's. There are ample trees (mainly pines) but most don't really come into play if shot selection and direction are good. Hole 5, par 3 is the exception though. Large trees down the left, road way down the right. Straight or pay.

Aesthetically, it's nice and has a tranquil feel about it. A few birds, local horses along boundary holes and huge turtles in the sole large water hazard were nice to look out. The surrounding country with it's sloping lush hills were a lovely backdrop. The course over looks the nice little town of Lowood. Due to the heat, a huge storm, which I just manage to avoid come rolling in as I finished. The locals say this periodically happens during summer so be aware if you are still on the course after 5pm. Overall, the course is not hard to play, but does throw in a few challenges. I am an average player and if you play smart, consistent golf, you will do well and enjoy this course, which I did. Good and better golfers might find the course to easy and somewhat boring. For a country course, I enjoyed it, recommend it and will play there again any day.
