This is the benchmark for country golf. The course is the old & new mixed together. The new holes carve their way through the bush perfectly & these wEre done by the members.Maclean is a better course than Yamba but i am sure Yamba gets more praise.
PROS
- New holes & the setting.
Cons
- Overlooked as most people go to Yamba

Nice country course in excellent condition. Greens were firm and quite quick. The back nine was the better of the two nines, except there is a 325 metre walk from the 10th green to the 11th tee. A lot of water in play, but always visible and negotiable. Notable holes were the par 3 11th, short but two water carries and 16th, a mid length par 4 with a water carry in front of the green. We started on the 10th and found the front nine a little dull in comparison to the back. Well worth a visit.

Potentially a good course, all they really need is fairway watering and some more members so they can invest in more improvements such as making bigger greens and thickening the rough

The town of Maclean is easily overlooked, as the highway bypass gives you no good reason to pull over, and the golf course takes a bit of effort to find even if you do pop in.
When you do get there, it looks like a very typical small country course, with a little car park, small club house and a pro shop that closes at 2.00pm each day.
The holes near the club won't impress you very much, but you should keep going.
There seems to be an 'old' section, of not very interesting country golf, but the 'new' section of seven holes around the back is a different story altogether.
Clearly these holes have been 'designed', with tight doglegs, strategically placed hazards and humps near the greens, and they are a very good test of golf.
If you happen to be staying in the area at Yamba or Grafton, Maclean is well worth a visit.

Just played here today based on other recommendations below. The course is in great condition – fairways and greens. Rough is very forgiving. Front nine is good but back nine has a few new holes that are great. Challenging green undulations and well placed hazards make it very enjoyable.
