The Marangaroo Golf Course opened in 1988 and since then has become the busiest 18 hole public course in Perth.

The Murray Dawson designed course was built by the City of Wanneroo in a beautiful bush land setting. It measures 5,616 metres (6,177 yards) off the back tees and features many dog legging holes. One of the most interesting holes is the 422 metre par five 11th which is a narrow, double dogleg over a hill.

Marangaroo has a grass driving range with many targets, and two practice greens nearby. One for putting and another for chipping, pitching and bunker shots.

Played here for the first time on the long weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Online booking made finding a tee time easy. $22 for 18 holes on a weekend is good value and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

The course itself I enjoyed certainly not a massively long course, it does penalise you if you can’t find the fairways big trees little trees grass trees I found them all.

Greens were pretty slow but were consistant all the way around 2 or 3 of the greens had been renovated by off road bikes! However the course staff had done a pretty good job of minimising the damage.

Certainly worth a round.

Marangaroo is a good course for the average golfer as well as beginners and quite well priced. The par 5’s are a little short for the lower markers but in saying that you must stay out of the trees off the tee or simply put your ball has a 90% chance of being a gonner. There are hundreds of grass trees lining the left and right of numerous holes on this course and they will swallow up any wayward shot, especially from the tee.

The greens are a little slow but this course does get a lot of traffic due to its low green fees. The driving range is a huge grassy area to hit from and there is a good practice putting and pitching green. Proshop is very well stocked with gear too.

This course is harder than Maylands Peninsula for the lower marker but greens not as well maintained. If you want to see lots of local “roos” well they are everywhere!

PROS

  • Well priced, tight layout, good practice facilities

I have been playing at marangaroo for 10 years and always enjoy playing this course. I would have to say it is the easiest course in Perth being fairly straight, wide fairways and short. All par 5s are pretty easy to reach in 2 if you get a straight drive. The addition of the water on the 7th makes it alot more interesting however pretty easy to avoid the water. Greens not in the best nick but still an enjoyable round. Great begginners course.

I have been playing Marangaroo quite regularly for a number of years and have always found it to be a great experience. I especially like the changes to the front nine that have been made, with the introduction of the lake. The fairways are generally in pretty good nick and are fairly forgiving for golfers of all skill levels. The greens are not typically very fast and are also of a reasonable size.

The pro shop is very well stocked and the staff are extremely friendly.

A course that probably suits the less skilled golfer (such as me), but in terms of price, it is a course that is pretty tough to beat.

I've been playing here for a few years now and I believe that the course is good for its price. Whether it is a quick 9 in the afternoon or a good 18, Marangaroo is an ideal course for the average golfer.

I have been playing at marangaroo for a good 2 years now and you can't go wrong with the well priced green fees. Occasionally the course can be a little patchy but with the preffered lie on the fairways will make it easy to over come these minor problems. The greens are small and the fairways are mainly wide. The course is great for all players whether they be on a 32 handicap or off scratch. I would say Marangaroo would have one of the best pro shops in W.A with a great selection of clubs, clothing, shoes and accesories with very good competitive prices.

Step up to the first tee and the first thing you'll notice is the amount of kangaroos calling this course home. This course uses narrow fairways and doglegs to challenge the player. Venture off the fairway and theres every chance a grasstree will steal one or two shots from you. Plenty of large overhanging trees near tee offs and down the sides limit the shape of some tee off shots. Drive straight though and theres not much else to stop a good score being racked up. Greens are medium slow and don't have many undulations and only one is tiered. Theres only three shallow bunkers on the whole course and don't have much impact. Notable holes are the 325m par 4 dogleg right and the par 5 428m 17th, also a dogleg but a good 250m to make the corner which is hard because the tee off is narrow and the fairway leans right into the bush. Good things I like about this course are; the price is good, good condition for public course, plenty of shade, straight drives important, reachable holes, easy to walk Bad things I don't like are; too many kangaroos, play often too slow, not many water taps, greens too easy, no bar facilities. Overall it's a good cheap course for the average player but I think good players would find it too easy and the play too slow.
