It’s not a long course but it has enough variation to make it interesting. Blind tees, elevated tees, tees over water and a couple of +215m par 3s make it worth a go. The members seem to be proud of their club and I can see why. It’s right nearby me so I’ll be going back. And it’s fairly cheap.

My Local Course and it’s in the best condition that i’ve seen it in years. Greens are slick and a pleaure to putt on.

Pro Staff were extremely polite and accomadating.

A must play course given it’s location and green fee’s ..

I really enjoy this course. Its not an A grade course, but it is challenging. Living locally I can say with some authority that it is in the best condition that I’ve ever seen it. Greens have been cored 2 weeks ago, so spring and summer should be great here. Get in there

PROS

  • bit of variety as you move through course - not just up and back
  • good greens, small but fair
  • value is outstanding

Cons

  • short holes (apart from the first par threes (200 mtrs)
  • firways get a bit iffy, v.rocky, but preferred lies fixes that

After not playing golf for 10 years while I pursued a life of rock n roll, this course is the perfect welcome back to the great game. Good value for money and a decent challenge makes this course a worth while hit for most.Pro shop staff always provide good service and jazz and a beer in the club after your round go down well.

The closest course to my home, hence i have played here a bit. It’s good for a practice hit or a muck around with your mates. last time i was there ( late july ) a few greens had recently been cored and some of the fairways are in terrible condition ( built on very rocky ground ). there are some challenges, a few blind tees and 2 drop off par 3’s, and some nice holes, The 3rd, 13th and 17th are probably the standouts. Look it’s not a great course but at $18 for a round i think there are worse courses out there. Club and members are all very friendly.

As mentioned in earlier reviews, this is a short course but difficult to shoot low scores. Bulk of the course is Par 3’s all measuring around the 160-200m mark. Almost all of the par 4’s are under 300m.

Even though the par 3’s present a challenge, none of the 18 holes are particularly attractive. In fact it is an almost entirely featureless course. Tees were all in poor condition as were several of the greens. Overall has the feel of a low budget operation, added to the fact that we saw a 6-ball group at one stage. The one big positive here was the clubhouse and pro shop staff who were all very helpful and friendly.

nice short, challenging public course. There are a several hazards to contend with, though fairways and tees can be in rough shape.

It’s a bargain, especially with internet vouchers. I don’t recommend going late in the afternoon, as the local start coming out before dusk to practice and walk dogs, etc.

With 12 Par 3s ranging from 125m-225m and 6 Par 4s ranging from 260m-325m one could think this course is easy. Wishful thinking like that, and youíd quickly find yourself struggling to keep to your handicap. This course is one of the tougher short courses in Sydney.

Greens were unusually tricky for the courses condition, almost all were bunkered. Tee-beds were a little below par but you can still search for a flat spot with green cover. Fairways though, were poor, with many bare brown/yellow patches. The good thing about this course is the length of the par 3s. I found myself taking out my 5 wood to play some holes as the wind was strong, especially being in the Cooks River valley, the course just ëchannelsí the wind so some holes have marketable changes in wind direction as the course meanders around the river. Signature hole is probably the first 225m Par 3 ñ one of the longest par 3s Iíve played. The 325m Par 4 10th hole, here anything left is in the river. And the 293m Par 4 17th, anything right is in the river or has hit a jogger/cyclist. A few blind tee-shots are somewhat unique to Marrickville, although Iím personally not a fan of these, as it implies a poor layout and thought process to designing.

Played on 11/1/06 and paid $16 for 18 holes after 3.30pm rate for 7 days, otherwise youíd pay $24 for WE or WD. One frustrating thing was to find so many people jumping on the back nine over Wardell Road to play holes 12-15. Could be much better maintained (clubhouse or shack needs to be demolished) and policed, but still MAY play here again to work on par 3 approaches.

Marrickville is only a par 60..but is very tough.. I have only played there once in an Encourage shield. The first to holes are very hard par 3s...both well over 200ms...if you can par them your off..

There are a number of short par 4s...on the front that are simple. However the the back nine is a challenge with a few par 3s that a blind. The cooks river runs adjacent so theres water to contend with.

The wind always plays a part at Marrickville. Greenfeas are very generous.

Marrickville golf course is a challenge with all par 3s over 170m. A real test for all...

Short, but tough to par.

The 8th is a blind par 3.

The 17th is an excellent shot par 4 where you have the option of cutting off as much of the Cooks river as you like. You could make up some shots with a birdie or even eagle, but you could easily wreck a good round with a 5 or 6.
