Not bad. Somehow they’ve conjured some variety in the fairway layout. Respectable greens, well contoured, good bunkering. Only real drawback is that its a bit small and short. Very good for learners/ high handicappers/ etc as it is fairway all the way to the green.

Good quality course, very busy throughout the week. Fairly short course, if you can hit it more the 230m off the tee you will wait on every hole.
Avoid a veterans and ladies comp days as it can get backed up.

Have not played here in a while and i must say this place just keeps getting better. The greens are exceptional tees and fairways are also in pretty good condition. This is one of the best public golf courses i have played. wont be waiting as long to come back and play this golf course.

Massey is a decent track. Very casual and relaxed atmosphere and very reasonable green fees. No apparent need to book either as its v. quiet on weekdays day.
It isn’t very challenging though – if you hit straight, you’ll have a good day out.
There is a bit of an issue with residual water here. This may be because its a very flat course built right along the water – but i’m no expert, so that might not be the reason. Regardless, if it rained the night before you play, be prepared for LARGE puddles.

The little drop of rain in the last couple of weeks has really greened the fairways up. tees are in pretty good condition and greens a great, better then some more well known golf courses.
not a very long course but can be difficult if not straight of the tee. will be definatley comming back to play.

It does get busy sometimes but is great course for a casual game. The front nine is much better than the back nine, which is adjacent to a residential area and as a consequence, gives the feeling of playing in someone’s back garden. Actually, when I played the back nine on a weekday evening, there were people coming out of their back gardens to practice pitching onto the greens, without caring who was waiting to play. As a result, a couple of greens on the back nine had tons of unrepaired pitch marks. Still recommended though, the course as a whole is in pretty good nick, might even be better playing the front nine twice.

Massey is just a joy to play at the moment the tee’s and green are in great condition. I’m really impressed with the progress the club has made since taking over the pro shop. What a great day out!

The fairways are just not up to scratch, very rough! Greens are a lot better, not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but nice. The sand in the bunkers is not the best either!

Have played Massey park a few times this year as have just moved to the area. It is the best public course I’ve played. Although a bit short for some par 4s (250-300m) it still offers enough challenges.
The greens and bunkers are fantastic. Greens fast and true. As good as the SEQld resort courses (of which I have played most). The bunker countering is great, however with mediocre sand. They have obviously spent a bit of money around the greens.
Can only rate 3 stars due to lack of length.

Our group decided to try out Massey Park on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Thankfully and surprisingly it wasn’t too busy and we were able to pay and play immediately after arrival.
First impressions were good. But soon wittled away as we walked down the fairway which was in very poor condition. The grass needed cutting and there were holes everywhere. Sadly this was true of all of the fairways. There were even a couple which had a lot of rocks. Bunkers were well placed, as with most public courses the amount of sand in each was inconsistent. The greens were nice but a bit slow and could also have been cut down a bit. The course layout was as well set up as it could be given the limited space to work with. But I would agree with a previous comment about the lack of distance markers on the fairways.
Overall we found it to be pretty average. One positive were the staff, all of them were both friendly and helpful.

I played this course a day afer 100mm or so of rain and was very impressed. Some bunkers were full of water and there were plenty of ponds on the fairways, however in general it was in good shape. One problem was the lack of signage, there was the odd sign on the tee but more of a problem was the absence of 150 and or 100 markers, add this to getting lost twice did make it a little frustrating. All in all not to shaby.

since scott saddler came along this course has just gone ahead in leaps and bounds. i played this course only a year ago and it was as described in an earlier comment "a goat track" but with the introduction of new tees and the seaisle grass this is soon becominga diamond in the crown of golf in sydney. WELL DONE

Massey Park is a good liitle course not far out of the CBD. Some very picturesque holes deep in the harbour in the concord area.
Front nine is tougher than the back nine with a tough par 5 and a tough par 3.
Back nine is where you can be aggresive with some short par 4’s and some straight 3’s.
Greens are not especially quik but play true.
Overall good course for all ranges.

massey update
1st,2nd,3rd,4th,9th tees on the front nine are in later stages of being rebuilt or nearly ready to go.
on the back the 10th,11th,16th tees have had the same work.
alot of general work,as in tree removal ,lopping, bunker edges and bunker replacement are well under way.
the above average rainfall thru late july early august have given the course a great tinge of green.
the fairways are looking heaps better with much better lies most of the time
the course has a way to go but come the spring with a good core of the greens
massey should be looking smick.
in conclusion dont come back till the new tees are up and going
there is currently alot of temporary tees in play and the course is playing way short.
but get down here in late sep ,early october and it will open your eyes to the work being done.
the club house is half way thriugh the renovations and is coming around well
so bookmassey in for a round or two later in the year.

as a life time member i would like to update the progress of our club.
there is no doubt the course has been in its worst condition in its 50 year history.massey is a council run course and with a combination of the drought, high staff turn over and lack of resources from council the course in last 18 months has fallen into a shamble.both members and the public have every right to be fuming.
in the last couple of months we have aquired a new head green keeper and a blank cheque book from council massey is slowly transforming back to the good old days.currently four tees and greens are being totally replaced and with a combination of new equipment and funds we are hoping the course will return to the good old days.
also just to let people know that the club house is under going a half million dollar refurbishment so next time you are here, come up for a cold beer after a round.
cheers

Last Saturday was the first time i played the course so went in without expectations. I like the layout of the holes and is very scenic along the water but the fairways and greens are a disgrace, not to mention 3 of the holes were temporary's. Fine, i understand they have a some disease in the grass, but before you relieve patrons of their hard earned $26 for a round(which i think is ridiculously high anyway) atleast warn them if given the oppourtunity. I rang to ensure i could get on which they advised i could but was not told at all of the state of the greens. I may not have gone if advised so but i would have considered the course in the future, however their blatant deceit has now lost them atleast 4 players for eternity.

I play here regularly, but I wont be going back for a while. Currently the greens are suffering from a disease, the same one you'll find at Marrickville and Barnwell Park.
Unplayable, thats all there is to say.
Hopefully they will sort the problem out soon.

Awful!! This is as constructive with my criticism as I can be. How the members enjoy their golf is beyond me. What was a reasonable and enjoyable short public course has deteriorated into a shambles. No grass on greens, particularly 9th and 16th, is a disgrace. There are some greens and tee areas that are ok. The fairways are generally in a poor state, but some of the blame for this can be attributed to the lack of rain and water restrictions. Unfortunately, a course in such disrepair does not make for an enjoyable game of golf.

Massey at the momment is in terrible condition...no grass on the tees, rock hard fairways, bad greens. Greeen fees $25!, waste of time and money. The council needs to spend a @!#$* load of money to get this course back to its old self.

Fairways are extremely poor with dirt patches along most fairways and some fairways showing rocks. Soils are thinly covered and the lie of the ball is a lottery. There are better odds on a race track. Greens can be slow and very fast on the brown greens [due to lack of watering]. Although, the grass around the greens are well trimmed, making chipping onto these greens quite easy. The Tees are shocking, 5th, 6th,9th, 11th,16th, &17th especially the 9th where if you find a blade of grass, you might as well buy yourself a lottery ticket. I've been a member here for 20 years and I have never seen this course in a worse condition. Playing here is not fun, you go so that you can get away form your Mrs or kids, but you'd better off staying home. Avoid at all costs so that the council realises there is a problem, when they work out they are not pulling in the moolah. Otherwise they will still not do anything about it.

Having just played "royal" Massey, The course is in extremely poor condition, which is sad as was once a little jewel in the inner west... a drive down the middle of the fairway is more often then not rewarded with a deadpan lie...the 10th fairway is the worst, all that is missing are the animals grazing. Weather alone cannot be blamed some of the fairways are mowed others are not, some of the tee boxes resemble a road...much better value elsewhere...avoid!

Quite a good short course (Par 66 4566m from the back tees). Hazards include water (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th), sand on nearly every green, and wind.
Exciting first nine, but quite an easy stroll for the back nine. A good course for the social and beginner golfers, but the advanced golfer, perhaps nearby Concord GC will suit you.
Only downside is the fees. $26 for 18 holes on a weekday is asking too much for a smallish council owned golf course. With that extra money, they should have entrenched the stormwater drain that runs across the 10th, 18th and 1st, to make it a little more challenging.

Overall, not a sensational course but offers enough of a challenge for the novice golfer. What it teaches the beginner is course management. Go for the driver, or lay it up, choices-choices! Most holes are straight and flat, and usually flanked by other straight and flat holes (so hitting away from your fairway is not always disastrous!). Look out for 5th-a Par 5 hole supposed to look like - Drive (water to your left) / Layup (over stormwater drain) / Chip (onto a green guarded by bunkers). Seems so much easier to pull off in your head!!
Also the 17th-Par 3 asks a bit much. Smallest target area, hugged by bunkers. Birdies rarer than hens teeth.
Love the guys in the Pro-shop.
Don't love the course fees. 9 holes, midweek after 5pm (daylight saving time) should not cost $20

I found the overall setup of the course to be quite good. It had a very good view and fantastic design. The down sides are, there were not enough signage to tell first time users where the next holes are and had to resort to asking fellow golfers. Another thing for a Sunday hit, was that social competitors were still teeing off at 11:30am, when the Public time starts at 11:00am. Other then that, had a great time.

What a great public course. The length is reasonable and most holes are pretty flat so the walk isnt too hard. The course looks great at the moment with lush fairways and smooth greens. Maintenance does a great job here including keeping the bunkers light and fluffy. It might not challenge the single digit handicapper but for everyone else this relaxed course is recommended...well worth the money.

This course is always enjoyable to play. it is relatively flat, but the fairways are narrow and require accuracy. If you can keep the tee shot straight, your day will be easier!!
The 12th hole was out of play for some reason, but apart from that, the course was in pretty good condition.
We played on a Sunday morning and the only problem was that a social club had apparently booked for 12 people and 24 turned up!!! We still made it around in 4 1/2 hours.

Massey park is an average golf course, well maintained and a lot of room, playing next to the water is always a good setting. However, the unfortunate sewerage lake that runs through the middle of about 5 holes is very disappointing. But with nice greens the course is good for a sunday morning social.

Massey park is pretty little course. This course is very straight. With a par of 65 'i think' it is generally what most people are after. This course is great for beginers. The greens are medium but some arnt a true reading. The fairways are kept in a good nick all year round.
Some of the par 4s are on the short side and if you have a driver it's tempting. If you are straight with your driver you will do well.
Try to play during the week as this course is popular on weekends. The greenfeas on the weekend are a bit of a sting to add.
Massey park is a good alround course.

Not a bad course for a midweek knock if you find yourself not working... No need to book, just rock up and play..
The first 4 holes are pretty ordinary with the 2nd and 3rd tucked away in a corner next to the Bushells factory.. The rest are fairly straight and a little uninteresting.. Although there's the par 5 (5th I think) that provides more of a challenge with the stream in driving distance.
All in all, a well kept, tidy course.. The greens are surprisingly good for a course of this standard and the bistro is pretty good as well !

Not a bad course…not a good one either.
A bit short and simple without much variation or hazards.
The fairways are ok on some holes, not very good on others.
The greens are the best feature of this course, they have good pace and all of them have a very similar pace to them.
