The Merewether Course is a well groomed tree lined course. Over recent times great effort has been made to reintroduce native trees and wildlife and benefits are starting to show. The first impression suggests an easy course with some very attackable holes. It doesn’t take long to realise that precision is well rewarded. Stray shots that don’t sink in dams are usually found, but the punishment can vary dramatically. There is a fully equipped pro-shop and clubhouse facilities.

My current home course. Very fun and enjoyable, worth the fees for certain holes, especially the 2nd and 16th.

Relatively hilly, most shots will be on a slope of some sort

a very nice course. need to be straight here. 6 par 3’s. very short course although there is a really tough run from 7 through to 10 7 – 400m par 4 8 – 180m uphill par 3 9 – 400m downhill par 4 10 – 400m uphill par 4

course is fairly easy, a bit too hilly for most. you will get alot of sidehill lies. you will need to play alot of different shots on this course.

An easy course. didn't play extremely well but still shot -9 my handicap. Second time i've played and there's been good improvements. The course was in better condition and the greens were quite good. Easy walking aswell. Got confused at times trying to find where the next hole was. Short course. Propably a good thing for me. A descent price for a descent course

Merewether GC is actually closer to inner Newcastle city than its namesake. Situated in the heart of the south eastern inner city suburbs this course is in excellent condition and presents challenges to golfers of all levels of ability.

The first thing you notice is that it is out in 8 and back in ten, this dates back many decades to when the clubhouse used to be in another location.

There are a number of signature holes such as the short dog leg par 4 2nd which requires an accurate tee shot to set up your shot to the green over a dam. The green is wide but shallow and is protected at the back by a bunker. If you overshoot you can have a perilous shot back to the green.

The long par 4 10th (index 1) which requires 2 long straight shots to make the green the second of which is all carry. The job isnít finished there as the green is a tough putting challenge with some savage breaks.

The par 4 15th is also a tester with a nasty bunker or steep slope at the front of the green for those that go for it and come up short (if youíre not confident it is often better to lay up as it is very difficult to chip close to the pin).

The par 3 8th is also a great challenge 187m all uphill OOB on the right, water on the left and bunkers front left and right.

All in all it is a course in excellent condition with trees, water, some narrow fairways, some uneven fairways and some scoring opportunities. You can have a great round or you can have a ìcharacter buildingî round but youíll definitely come back.
