This course has everything you want in a wonderful golf course.
Extremely well maintained and IMO, the best greens in Australia.
More importantly, it requires so much strategy. This is the main ingredient in having fun on the course.
You cannot hit middle of the fairways here and have a good round. You must hit to one side and then, approaching some greens, you must land short or on the other side of the green to feed your ball to the hole.
If you have the opportunity, get on here and you will enjoy the experience. I played here today, I’m a member of a Group 1 Club elsewhere and have no hesitation in recommending Monash CC to anyone.

Measures 6090m Par 72 with four par 3s ranging from 132-194m, ten par 4s ranging from 267-386m and four par 5s ranging from 486-519m.

Course is very well maintained with lush kikuyu grass fairways, medium to tall tree-lined fairway layout with smooth quick greens and flat teebeds. Layout is a little hilly…especially on the back nine.

The course has over 45 well-positioned bunkers. The opening 519m 1st (index 12) and 500m 10th (index 11) are both par 5s of similiar length with a slight dogleg right from an elevated tee.

Highlights include: 365m dogleg right uphill 4th (index 2) if you go too far straight off the tee you could see your ball over the fence and in OOB Garigal National Park to a green guarded by a deep bunker short right – the pro there tells me they will change this as too many members go over the fence without knowing they are OOB until they walk up to the fenceline to search for their ball thinking it is in play.

The 162m slightly downhill 5th (index 10) is very picturesque from the tee with the land/ocean interface in the distance behind the green guarded by 4 bunkers. The 386m 11th (index 1) plays straight with a left-to-right sloping fairway lined by tall trees to a green guarded by 3 bunkers. The short dogleg left 315m 13th (index 13) is a testing hole with a blind teeshot to a fairway sloping sharply to the green with thick vegetation left – longer hitters have a crack here at the green guarded by 4 bunkers. The slightly uphill 194m 14th over the dam is a tester with 2 bunkers short right to a green sloping to the front. The 374m 16th (index 3) plays slightly uphill with OOB Powder Works Road on the right to a long narrow green.

To play well here you must be able to hit the ball on the higher side of the fairway as the fairways here slope quite moderately away from the centre.

Played here in the open day on 27/1/2011 with $75 competition fees. Course is ok and in great condition but not overly exciting that I’d rush back here to play. The closing 2 holes are a little short and disappointing to finish on. Clubhouse sits on top of the hill and has great views to the ocean.

Yes the greens are exceptionally true, i had one of my best putting rounds in months here today, just set the ball roling and wait for it to drop. that said i found the layout boring, writing this a mere six hours after i completed 18 holes i can barely remember more than 6 holes. I was lucky enuff to play for free but would not like to have payed the $80 they charge on open days. if invitedby a member go along but if you are going to shell out 80 bucks for an open day, try to into Elanora next door

I played Monash today for the first time. Its a very good golf course and one which the members are no doubt very proud. I did find it quite difficult and looking back there aren’t many holes that you can vigorously attack, and certainly no gimme birdies. If i played the course regularly i’m certain that i would have a better idea with some of the blind tee shots which first up make it challenging off the tee.

As previously described, the greens are very, very good. No complaints about them. The wet weather has made some rough pretty scrubby but generally in very good condition.

The scenery is magnificent. Well worth playing if you can get a game.

Good fairways, fast greens but with inconsistent pace, few classic championship holes but unfortunately also few average holes squeezed in, rough was in need of some upkeep.

What a brilliant course! The course layout is challenging with a lot of dogleg 4’s and 5’s that really make you think hard about how to play the hole. Absolutely love the 5’th and 14’th holes. Beautiful views over the ocean and bushland make the course one of my favourite in Sydney.

The greens are fabulous – the truest greens I’ve played in a long time and lightening fast!

If you get a chance to play here – don’t think twice!

beautiful setting with lots of great views, i saw about 10 wallabies on a round there Testing course with some great golf holes and greens are very true and quick. If your not a great putter it could destroy you as another review said they were ridiculous. I don’t agree, they are some of the best in nsw, no questions. he must of got destroyed. one of my favorite course with first class facilities too.

Best greens in NSW. Without a doubt. And as a previous greenkeeper there i dare anyone to argue with me. Only greens i’ve seen that are ridiculously fast while still resistant to an approach shot. However, they are at modern day green speed, normal speed for non-tournament golf is 12ft on the stimpmeter. However, most of the greens are fifty years old and have some very ridiculous slopes on them. Takes alot of course knowledge to play here. Another con is the sidehill lies. For a right hander ALL the holes on the back nine slide away from the golfer. E.g. tenth is a dog leg right but the slope runs to the left which makes you try to hit a cut with the ball above your feet.

Beautiful golf course but ridiculous greens.

Testing lay-out which has recently under gone some design changes new holes, new fairway bunkers. Greens are slick and alway take double the break you think it will….

“doglegs are so close to the tee that cutting the corner becomes the normal line for moderate to big hiitters” that’s what they are for to think your way thru the hole with course management.

Shoot your handicap first go around Monash you should be happy.

Just hosted the national teams titles.

Great condition, great location, lots of moderate only holes, greens can be close to unplayably quick

A good test of golf from tee to green, however once you get to the green thats when it all changes.

The greens in winter would be as fast and subtle as any in Sydney.

Stand over a putt, think it will go left to right and it goes and goes and goes right...

Takes alot of judgement and guts to get the ball in the hole because of the greens.

In some ways it is unfair to the average golfer who expects to hit the ball into a green and stop it there only to see it roll off or into a bunker !!!

Private course and well worth the game if you can get on

I have played Monash a number of times over the last 10 years. It is a good Sydney course but has some steep and challenging terrain, forcing some design compromises which detract from the layout. Sidehill lies are common on the perimeter of the course and some doglegs are so close to the tee that cutting the corner becomes the normal line for moderate to big hiitters. The quality of the greens is a bit of a lottery. They can be firm and fast if the weather has been kind but sometimes seem to suffer from a lack of attention. One highlight is the view from the balcony of the clubhouse, high on a hill overlooking 4 or 5 holes and the ocean. Don't pass up a hit at Monash, but there are better designed and maintained courses in Sydney

Some of the quickest and toughest greens Ive played on in Sydney let alone South East Asia. Although the fairways are not overly tight a missed shot off the fairways will likely lead to a loss ball in the thick bushes or drink. (Just a warning Ive spotted red-bellies in the bushes there so make sure youre alert when searching). Quality course and sensational greens if youre lucky to be invited to play.

A testing layout awaits the lucky recipient of an invitation to Monash. Quite hilly, it is a challenge of fitness and finesse as it also boasts some of the quickest greens around, especially in summer.
