Played Morisett yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the round. The course was in reasonably good nick. Greens were rolled, the fairways well covered, and the dams and bunkers full to the brim. The course starts off with a par 5 which I always find nasty but it was a good way to get into the groove. Was nice to get away from the main road for the second hole onwards. Thoroughly enjoyed the water carry holes as per Brettturner’s review.

My only minor gripe was that staff were directing groups to begin from both the 1st and 9th holes to avoid queues. This made for a rather long wait when we rounded for the back 9. But overall on a busy day there weren’t excessive delays on the tees.

Will definitely take friends back for a hit.

PROS

  • Nice long course with a good number of par 4s and 5s.
  • Well maintained.
  • Friendly staff and members who were happy to provide direction.
  • Good sandwiches in tuck shop at halfway!

Cons

  • Some long waits which broke up the rhythm of the round.

Being a novice, I must say that I enjoyed playing this course. There was nothing particularly difficult about it. The course was easy to find, unlike trying to find the clubhouse, that could have been better signposted. Most of the holes are pretty straight forward. The holes further away from the club house didn’t seemed to be looked after as well as the holes closest to the clubhouse, but still, nothing to complain about there. I enjoyed it and will be playing there again in the future.

I had a bad day when we played at Morisset in winter so that might explain why I didn’t enjoy the experience. 20 odd of us went to play. The car park is no where near the pro shop or course and buggies are not allowed in the car park so we had to carry heavy bags some distance. The course had a lot of rules about what you could do and couldn’t which seemed to take the social pleasure out of the game somewhat. The course was okay however a lot of branches and twiggs were about which gave it an unkept feeling. Some of the others players thought it was a good course. It is not on my list to play again.

i love the longer courses and this suited me.

i loved the 14th par 4 over the water,a real challenging hole and players of all abilitys can attack it differently.

the course in general is fantastic it is a relativly easy walk even though the course undulates thru a couple of valleys.

greens and tees are in great nick and generally most lies on fairways are good

Morriset is undoubtley the best public course on the coast/Lower hunter. It is great for hackers and experinced golfers alike. Excellent membership price of $450 with no joining fee makes it very affordable and well worth the money considering the quality of the course. Excellent pro shop with friendly Pro and staff. The course it self is in great condition with the greens top notch. The fairways are comming together really well.

Worth a round or 3.

Have fun

Morisset golf course is a demanding course in many ways. It's long par 5's in holes 1,3 and 6 make a good tee shot and fairway wood essential for a reasonable score, whilst the challenging tight par three's are a test of accuracy with iron shots. Overall players need to show good balance of golf technique to master the courses tree lined fairways. The green's are in good condition considering the water shortage due to one huge let's say interesting dam. Two of the most challenging holes are the water carry holes, the second of which requires a second shot which carries over onto the green on the other side. An acurate shot is required to navigate this hazard. Overall it's a great course to play for all standards of golfer.

Good golfing,

BT
