Measures 5192m Par 68 with six par 3s ranging from 120-192m, ten par 4s ranging from 256-400m and two short par 5s ranging from 427-440m.
Course has lush kikuyu grass fairways with a mix of couch/kikuyu grass teebeds. The mostly smallish-sized bent grass greens are not overly quick but are smooth with good roll with rye grass surrounding the greens. The layout has medium-sized tree-lined fairways which are fairly wide and gently doglegs with about 8 flags not visible from the tee mound. There are only 8 bunkered holes with a total of 22 bunkers on the course.
Highlights include: the opening 357m slight dogleg right 1st (index 6) with its tall pine-tree lined fairway to a green with 3 bunkers; the 192m slightly uphill 2nd (index 10) to an unbunkered green; the 390m slight dogleg left 3rd (index 2) with a 20m long and narrow bunkerless green; the 366m slight bend left 5th (index 4) with 3 red-staked ponds on the left which run 20-180m short from the 2-tier front-sloping bunkerless green with trees on the right and the OOB Maurice Road far left of the ponds; the 352m slight bend left 7th (index 8) which has a yellow-staked creek across the fairway 200m from the tee to another bunkerless green; the 400m slight dogleg left Par 4 gently uphill 13th (index 1) with 2 greenside bunkers; the 375m straight 16th (index 3) with a blind teeshot over a crest with the OOB Standen Street on the far left of a pond which is 50-95m short left of the bunkerless green; and the 155m 17th (index 9) with 2 bunkers short to a wide green.
Despite being the shortest 18-hole course in the state most par 4s are challenging but only 2 out of 6 par 3s are bunkered which makes the round easy. I like the short layout here as they have kept the original design with a few bunkers, tall trees and medium-sized greens on the 1st, 2nd, 13th and 17th added to the challenge here over the years.
Also the 2 par 5s are short but rather surprisingly difficult to score well on: the most bunkered hole on the course is the 440m 8th (index 14) doglegs left from 320m off the tee with 2 fairway bunkers 40m short left and 90m short right of the green which has another 2 bunkers short left; and the 427m 12th (index 13) which gently bends right with a pond 20-90m short of the bunkerless green which comes into play on your lay-up or approach.
Murray Bridge is the 4th largest city in the state (after Adelaide, Mount Gambier & Whyalla) with around 20000 people in the city & its surrounding areas. There is a proshop here and a decent clubhouse too.
Played here 3rd October 2011 with $30 green fees. Course access is from Ritter Street. I highly recommend a round here as you won’t be disappointed by the course conditioning.
