Measures 5946m Par 72 with four par 3s ranging from 138-172m, ten par 4s ranging from 310-390m and four par 5s ranging from 443-517m.
Course has a mixture of kikuyu / winter rye grass fairways and teebeds which I must say are fairly lush in the Spring. The mostly small-to-medium sized bent grass greens have some good speed but are mostly flat with subtle breaks. The medium-sized tree-lined wide fairway layout has only 2 unbunkered holes (2nd and 10th) with a total of 33 bunkers on the course and there are no water hazards.
Highlights include the front nine stretch of holes 4-7: the 355m straight 4th (index 4) with a blind teeshot uphill to a green with a rightside bunker; the 172m 5th (index 10) with a slightly downhill teeshot to a green with 3 bunkers; the 517m gentle dogleg left 6th (index 2) with a fairway bunker right coming into play off the tee with a right-sloping fairway to a green with a leftside bunker; and the 138m 7th (although index 18) with 2 leftside bunkers near the car park.
The back nine opens with a few more similar length par 4 holes with a good stretch of signature holes 15-17: the short 332m gentle uphill dogleg left 15th (index 7) with some tall trees lining its fairway to a large front-sloping green with 3 bunkers; the 155m 16th (index 15) with a tee mound across the driveway near the clubhouse and proshop to a wide green below with 2 shortside bunkers; and lastly my favourite the 390m gentle dogleg right 17th (index 3) with a right-sloping fairway with long grass and trees along the rightside to a green guarded by a greenside bunker right and small shrubs over the back left.
There are some good holes here with some gentle-to-sharp doglegs with at least 12 flags not visible from the tee mound. Good bunkering, tree-lined fairways and good course conditioning make this layout an enjoyable walk.
Naracoorte is one of the larger towns in the South-East region with around 5700 people and is about 1 hour north of Mount Gambier. There is also the world-heritage listed Naracoorte Caves 10km south of the town to visit if in the area.
Played here on 7th October 2011 with $30 green fees. Course access is off the Riddoch Highway on the northern side of the town. Naracoorte is one of the better conditioned and fairly challenging layouts in the South-East.
There is a friendly full-time club professional also working summers at Robe which can be contacted on (08) 8762 4521. I highly recommend a round here.
