This course offers a very relaxed round. It’s isolation from hustle & bustle gives a sense of forgetting your location. A real shame it’s only 9 holes as it would be ideal for 18 holes, especially when metro Adelaide probably needs another public one. It’s interesting battling the wind that may confront you on any given day. Although a sandy based course, the holes in the main are interesting contrasts from long & dogleg par 4’s, long & short 3’s to 1 testy par 5. Greens are OK, but maybe course on whole could use some much needed TLC, especially more fairway greenery & possibly 2nd & 3rd cuts. Overall, it has great potential & no pushover to conquer. Good value for money that maybe needs more to lure you back more than once.

You could be excused for not realising that North Haven golf club exists, tucked away at the very top of the Le Fevre Peninsula, but nestled amongst the shipping yards and railway line is indeed a neat little nine hole course. While being on very sandy soil so close to the coast, the fairways were in reasonable conditions when played.
It is a very compact course that sees you hit around the boundary for the first four holes then venture inside these holes to finish your round. As you work clockwise around the edge, there is constant pressure to not hit the ball left, as you may find yourself OOB.
Amazingly, the course contains one of the toughest par 4’s I’ve played. More than 400m from the back tees and facing a South Westerly direction, it is nearly always going to be long and into the wind. But, the green is further protected by two bunkers at the front, meaning that your second shot will pretty much always have to carry all the way to the green, or you face a chip or long putt from the far right edge of the green. I imagine there would be days with a strong South-Westerly that this hole would be played as a three shot par four.
A cheap round is on offer here, and providing you don’t mind 9 hole course you should enjoy this one.

North Haven measures 2630m Par 34 with three par 3s ranging from 115-205m, five par 4s ranging from 280-390m and the reachable-in-two 454m Par 5 6th.
Course is fairly well-maintained with mostly kikuyu fairways which were a little dry and patchy and thinly covered in places. The short tree-lined fairways are no higher than 5m tall which means it is easy to navigate to the bent grass greens if in the rough. There are 14 bunkers on the course with the opening 330m slight dogleg right 1st being the only bunkerless hole.
As mentioned the course has excellent drainage as it is built over sand. Some good holes like the 4th and 8th.
1st-330m slight dogleg right after 180m off the tee
2nd-380m slight dogleg right after 220m off the tee with OOB far left
3rd-131m with a couch teebed to a green with 2 bunkers left
4th-390m slight bend left with a fairway bunker on the right 220m off the tee with 2 bunkers short which comes back to the clubhouse
5th-115m with a couch teebed to a green with 2 bunkers
6th-454m Par 5 sweeping dogleg right with a fairway bunker in the leftside rough off the tee and green guarded by a bunker short right.
7th-280m slight dogleg left after 180m off the tee with a bunker short right
8th-205m Par 3 with 2 bunker short rightside
9th-345m slight dogleg left with a bunker short left.
Played here 26/09/2011 with $8 green fees on Mondays and $12 green fees Tuesdays-Fridays and $15 green fees on weekends and public holidays.
Tucked away in North Haven past the Gulf Point Marina bounded by the Outer Harbor railway line and station, Lady Ruthven Drive and Victoria Road, despite not having enough land for 18 holes this little 9-holer is good for all golfers.
