North Turramurra Golf Course

This is a council course that has no registered club attached to it. However, there is a well-stocked pro shop.

The course is fairly flat and located in an attractive bushland setting. Tree-lines fairways in the long established parts of the course require a degree of accuracy off the tee.

Royal Turra is a course that is tailored to the non competition/club golfer. If you play here expect to find a busy course being played by heaps of hackers.
It is ideal for beginners and non serious golfers and you can get a hit there when ever you want, provided you are prepared to wait during peak times.
The course itself is’nt overly challenging and only has 1 bunker. There are some nice holes on the back 9 with long views back towards the North Shore.
The greens are usually in good condition and run slow.
The fairways and tee’s struggle due to the course’s low maintenance and high golfer turnover.
If you play don’t expect to much, enjoy your game and don’t get to carried away with yourself.

Played Royal Turramurra last Saturday and, whilst I wasn’t expecting too much, it failed even my low expectations. Some of the greens are so bare or weed-infested that they resemble to Somme after the Germans visited. Its a pity its so badly maintained because the layout, especially the back nine, is really interesting with lovely views for miles. Maybe they should save some of the money they spend of excessive gardens, and put into fairways and greens.

North Turramurra was one of the first courses I played starting out and it still throws up a good challenge. It’s a very casual course and a great place for a relaxing round. Staff are friendly and accommodating and it is usually easy to get a tee off at short notice. Some holes can be a little short in places but there is a good variety with some elevated tees and well placed mature trees.

PROS

  • Great atmosphere
  • Friendly staff
  • Good mix of holes to suit beginner to enthusiast.

Cons

  • Can get busy on weekends
  • Some fairways a little scrappy with poor grass coverage.
  • No practice putting green.
  • Nowhere to buy a cold beer and reflect on round.

The nets are back open to the right of the pro shop. Royal Turramurra, as it affectionately known locally is a great place to get the young guns out for a hit. My 9 year old loves it. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Some of the holes are a bit tatty but don’t be put off as the majority are well looked after on a whole, pardon the pun.

I play here regularly, its easy to get onto most weekends. Not the longest course but the front 9 can be a challenge if you don’t hit straight because there are so many trees. Although its short there are still plenty of holes to bring out the driver and plenty of par 3’s to get your irons working well.

PROS

  • Easy to get onto
  • Challenging but not to long

Cons

  • To many trees on the front 9

Played 18 holes there last week. I was first dissapointed there was no putting green, which was odd. I was then told that the practice nets were”out of service”. Not a good start !. Anyway, the pro shop was quite good for a public course & the staff were very pleasent and helpfull. The course itself is fairly short but challenging. All fairways and greens were in good condition but some of the tees were not to flash. I would recommend this course to any beginner to intermediate golfers, but not to any better players, as they will find it a little to short. All in all a good day out.

Not a bad days golfing. A shortish public course that seems quite easy when standing on most of the tees. The front nine will reward accurate hitters, but find the trees and you looking at a frustrating day. Not many bunkers [which can be viewed as a blessing for those who don’t like sand], but if some more were added, could significantly increase the difficulty on certain holes.

Mostly a mix of Par 3’s and Par 4’s with the single Par 5 17th. Best Par 3’s 5th – with a narrow entrance to green, 6th – with frustrating tree sitting just offcentre about 40m out from pin, 11th – with elevated tee requiring good distance judgement, especially on windy days. Best Par 4’s 2nd – dog-leg right guarded by trees, accurate tee shot rewarded, 3rd – curved fairway, and dense trees require diligence from tee, 10th – great driving hole, best birdie opportunity on course, 15th – can feel much long than actual distance, good tee shot rewarded, 18th – Wonderful finishing hole, challenging run up to elevated, two tiered green.

Midweek 18 holes will set you back about $22, with weekend rates $28 for 18, makes it a pleasurable day out without hurting the hip pocket. Can sometimes be busy on weekend afternoons but otherwise is generally uncrowded.

North Turramurra may not be as long or as well maintained as many other public courses in the Sydney area.

It does however have a unique relaxed bushland setting. The 219m par 3 12th and the 410m par4 17th offer a reasonable challenge for most Golfers.

The Fairways and Greens do need work but like any course, this varies with the seasons.

Hit the ball straight and you will be rewarded. If you take the course to lightly it will come back to bite you.

Over all Turramurra is great place to play a casual round, with friendly locals and excellent pro shop staff. I can’t think of a better place to learn the great game of Golf.

At $20 - can't you expect much more from NTGC - not a bad day out really. Easily walkable, friendly staff. Greens ok - but fariways are shocking. Great for beginers - short -- too short for serious golfers - lots of par 3s. Still - at $20 its a pretty good deal.

Measures 4283 Par 64 from the back plates with 9 Par 3s ranging from 115-160m, 8 Par 4s ranging from 220-375m and the 410m Par 5 17th hole. For a council-owned course the greens were not too bad, mostly tiered but two-paced - on the improve Im told. The teebeds were quite poor, while the fairways were extremely thinly covered and bare in many places. No real challenges out there for the serious golfer, as bad shots rarely get punished, with not many hazards about to get you to think.

The back nine is hilly and somewhat more challenging than the boring up-and-back front nine. Highlights, if you call it that, are probably the 148m 9th with bunker protecting front green with dam close to tee and the 150m 15th over a large gully with OOB on the left to a severely tiered green (one of the largest slopes IâÄôve seen on a green âÄì 1st hole at NSWGC comes to mindâĦ).

Played here 6/7/06 with green fees $21, you get what you pay for, but it should be said that of the two council-owned courses in the area, Gordon GC provides more of a challenge, if you are tossing up between the two.

Played there 24/01/06, fairways were OK but tees and greens disgraceful. There were bare patches around almost every green, luckily I didnt need to put through a patch. and as for the tees you are lucky to find grass to tee up and stand on. Maybe I am being too harsh for a round of 18 holes for $21, you get what you pay for I suppose.

North Turramurra is a pretty and great public course that is well maintained. The course is very good for a social round of golf and beginners. A lot of Par 3s but interesting. Some of the Par 4s are long holes but only come on the back 9 ñ keep you challenge till the end.

Generally, itís not too busy and the green fees are reasonable. The pro shop is excellent for a public course and the staffs are very friendly and helpful.

This is the course that I will definitely play again.

I read the past reviews of the course and thought I might try it out.

Fantastic little course, especially for the beginner type golfer.

Course is in good condition despite the lack of rain.

Lots of par 3s, but thats the type of course it is. If you want to play a full lenght course, dont play here.

Great well presented pro shop, with very pleasant staff. Spoke to the Head Pro, Darren, whom was very helpful in booking me a teetime and arranging all I needed.

This course's worst point is the length followed by the condition of the fairways. Also the bloke who runs the pro shop could be a little more polite to visitors (A point someone else raised with me)

On the positive side this course is good fun to have a social hit at and not usually too busy. The greens were green enough and reasonably paced as to make putting relativley easy.

Its got a lot of those typical tree-lined fairways with not a lot of rough. The plus side of having heaps of par 3s is that theres a couple of good ones in there! The proshop carries a pretty good range if you need to pick anything up as well.

This is a fairly typical short public course that, like most of them, has a few too many par three holes. Apart from that, the fairways & greens are well maintained and the layout is interesting if not exciting - and there are enough trees to make you concentrate on accuracy.

Great for a social round.
