The course was in as good as condition that could be expected due to the recent heavy rain. I enjoyed the course, however over 5hrs to play a round was excessive. The guy in the pro shop told me that it would be very busy and I expected it to be on a Sat afternoon but still, waiting for 10mins per hole to play is a long time. In saying all that I will definatley come back but either play in the comp in the morning or try for a weekday time slot.

Played first day after reopening due to flood damage. Track was suprisingly good considering. Ignoring the water it’s fairly easy to score well. Very picturesque, lots of native fauna which is always nice in the morning. Carts could use some work though.

Had a good experience. Pro Shop staff were helpful but could have provided a bit more organization re the first tee. No big drama we worked it out with the other groups ourselves. With lots of water the course is brutal if you stray but this is offset by the fact it’s rather short and the fairways are like carpet. The greens are not lightning but are true and manageable for the weekend golfer. Overall had a great day.

Surprisingly nice course, in great nick. Water provides a challenge, but if you avoid it is a course where you can score well. Will be recommending it to others.

Played there on 4 January 2012 for the first time. Always plenty of time slots available. Went to the practice fairway first to warm up. The practice bunker was full of water so unplayable and the range to me was a little small.

Out on the course – the course was presented very well. The majority of holes have water on either side making it a must to carry loads of balls if you do not control your ball flight. The greens are firm and on the slow side compared with some Sydney courses.

My two favourite holes were 15 and 18. Both par 4’s. On 15 you have 355m from the blue tees to a sharp dog leg right. If you are a big hitter then you can attack the hole by carrying the water. This is a long carry though. I took it on and left myself about 50m to the flag that was on the front right of the green. If you are not a big hitter then depending on your length a mid to long iron down the middle would be better suited.

As for 18 it is a short par 4 with water running across the hole just short of the green. Long hitter would definitely reach this water with their drives. I used an 5 iron off the tee and finished 150m out. I then played a high fade 5 iron (into a strong wind) to 1m from the pin and sank the putt.

Peaceful well maintained course and centrally located on the gold coast. I played early on a Monday morning so there was no wait. Good value for 18 holes plus electric cart. Got through the 18 holes in 2.5 hours. The closest I got to a birdie was a tame cockatoo on the 16th :-)

I played the Colonial yesterday off the black tees and found it most enjoyable. There is water of some sort on most holes but good course management and it is not really a problem. The course was in great condition but greens were a little bit slow. All in all very good would highly recomend.

Picturesque course. Slightly wet from all the rain, but that was not a problem. Greens were lightning fast, but well manicured and the ball runs true on them. Had an early morning tee-off and arrived 30 minutes earlier-was allowed to start my round, and finished in 3 hours!

We played on the renovation special and found the course to be in excellent condition. Hard to fault with great greens and fairways, some narrow holes, water on many holes, and plenty of bunkers. Whilst some of the high profile courses get much of the attention on the GC, this one is definitely worth a look.

Course is in very good condition. The wide open fairways and lack of trees make the course fairly easy. A very scenic golf course with all of the water however the water is not a major threat to your score.

Hi, 3 work collegues and myself played on Saturday. Two of the guys were local and myself and one other from interstate. The course was reasonably challanging and was in fantastic condition and yes we lost out fair share of balls in those waterways. One of the better grounds we have played on, we will definitely come back again.

The golf course was in excellent condition with the fairways being better than any of the courses that I have played on the Gold Coast so far. The course is not overly long but the presence of water on all bar one of the holes made it a tough challenge. One very pertinent warning however is the issue of the crows on the golf course They will steal your food from your cart and anything else that isn’t tied down. Do not leave your wallet, sunglasses, sunscreen, sandwiches or anything else unattended or unsecured in your cart or on top of your bag. They swoop on your carts as soon as you walk away from them and are as unwelcome as as a door to door salesman, you just can’t get rid of.

One word – Fantastic!!! My jaw dropped on arrival as course presentation is a picture in that you can’t wait to get onto the 1st tee! Fairways are lush, bunkers are well presented & full of quality sand. Finally, the greens honest but will agree in an earlier review that they are a little on the hard side. Once knowing that though, you play to the conditions!

In summary – I enjoyed it that much, I’m heading back down again this weekend from Brissie for at $65 including a cart, it’s value for money!!!

Played two rounds and did not get bored with the course. Fairwars were some of the best I have seen and the course as a whole was in great condition. Despite being a busy Sunday we weren’t held up and all and didn’t see anyone behind or in front. The only criticism for me personaly was the firmness of the greens as it was near on impossible to make a pitch mark.

I really enjoyed playing this course, even though I brought my C game for the day. It was in excellent condition and the greens were true. Water comes into play on a lot of the holes however you have generally the option to play away from the trouble instead of ’threading the needle’.
I did not get bored with the course and will be back to play there again.
Its very flat so an easy walking course – carts are not required. However there are some very ’links’ types of holes so dont think you will have a flat lie every time.
Food in the beautiful but underutilised clubhouse was well priced and I enjoyed my meal.

Tough review to make as we were interupted by the previously mentioned thunderstorm as well.
Pros: Course was in really good condition pre downpour. Bunkers were in best condition seen in a while and fairways, greens and lay outs were all good.
Cons: Started on the tenth and for the first 5 holes we were held up by the greens staff taking care of greens and bunkers which slowed down the play. They also left a mower in front of the par 3 12th.
Along with the lightning there was quite a lot of rain and when asked after 9 if possible to get a credit even for 9 we were advised the course was still open. While playing the back 9 in torrential rain most fairways were unplayable while there was no chance of playing out of bunkers. It may have been open the course but for those couple of hours it was not playable, yet we had to either play or forgo our round.

Played the great Colonial course last week and loved it. Am a mid handicapper and thought the course has both risk and rewards with your game. The layout is a good mix of the long and short and very easy to navigate around for one time players. The 9th hole was impressive heading back to the grand clubhouse a great sight. Got a bargain on the midweek round prob cheaper than some country courses. One course not to overlook on the Gold Coast. The Colonial will be getting my money again

Terrible experience. Fairways and greens were dry but surrounding areas were just mud from recent rains with lots of wet bogs from cart traffic. Cougar rental clubs were old as the hills with hard and shiny grips that slipped unless you strangled them. Cart had very little brakes and shaky steering with lots of mechanical noises from front end. Players were terribly slow with no courtesy to others.

Had a great time. The course was in excellent condition and the greens were well maintained. All staff were courteous and very helpful. We had a bit of a wait teeing off, but the pro was very apologetic and offered us a drink and something to eat while we waited.
It was great to see the staff out monitoring the speed of play – havent seen that at any other course in quite a long time.
Another positive was the drink cart being out and about all day.

Colonial was the first golf course that I ever played. I honestly like their practice area as it seems that they have most of the obstacles covered: chipping area, sand traps, putting, and driving range. It was a great experience to try my hand there before actually trying the golf course.
The golf course was fun, aside for the booking issues. Before we booked through iseekgolf.com, we asked what day was generally’slow’ as I was still learning. We booked on the day and time given, and, like others, they double booked some of their times.
Since I was new, I was trying to take my time on some of my swings, and sometimes would have to take more swings than it should of due to over estimating or under estimating. With others on our heels, I was playing with others hitting balls close behind me (had one land about 8 – 10 feet from where I stood trying to finish the hole).
It was a lot of fun, a nice course with nice views; however, the close bookings made it a little tough to relax and have fun.

I played yesterday with a friend and were due to tee off at 1:15pm behind a few social groups, we were imediately called through on the 1st hole by the group which was great but panic shots dont help and doesnt help your score either, but over the first 9 holes we were actually called through players 4 times which is just great unlike most of the other courses around here so wqe managed to get a round in and under 4 hours. I enjoyed the course and like the layout its a great test just difficult to pick your clubs when you cant drive on the fairways on the front 9 but they are protecting the course.

It was the first time I have played Colonial and was very impressed, one of the 3 courses side by side in the gold coast, played all 3 and Colonial took the prize with Lakelands close second. Greens were good water not too much of a problem, was looking forward to playing the 18th over the water infront of the majestic club house and pulled my tee shot!
Great course well worth the effort

It was my first time playing golf at the Colonial Golf Course and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The pro shop staff were courteous and friendly. The course itself is high quality and offers both the weekend golfer and the aspiring professional subtle challenges. The serene surrounds had a calming affect that only added to what was a wonderful experience. Thank you for making my Saturday afternoon.

The staff were great the greens slow but true otherwise we thought it a bit boring with only a couple of good holes. The condition was very good but not as interesting as Lakelands, The Glades etc

Played Colonial last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Take extra balls as theres water and some fairways seem to be big ball catchers for the water. The condition of the fairways and greens are great and the sand was also good (i was in there a bit). Great staff and Ill definitely play there again. out in 60 and back in 40 means the course or I was having a punishing day.

This is a very nice course, fairways in top condition. It has a tropical feel, plenty of water features and trees. Reminds me of Malaysian and Singapore courses, without their humidity at this time of year. Staff provides good service and very helpful. The water is there, ok if you hit straight.

great course, at a good price with the iseekgolf booking. Unfortunately had 3 other groups waiting on the tee when it was my tee time. Had to skip a few holes just to get a clear run, was then told by the marshall that they had a shot gun tournament starting on the 14th. ended up playing about 12 holes, should have played elsewhere.

Really nice course… plenty of water but fairways are reasonably generous so you can avoid most of it. We played it just before Christmas so it was pretty wet underfoot but still ok. Fairways were great. Unfortunately the greens had just been cored so cant say a lot about them (I wish clubs would advertise when they core their greens)

First time 3 of us had played the colonial. It was pelting down rain and looked like it was going to be an awful day with the possibility of not being able to finish the round. However the course held the rain remarkably well and the greens were fantastic. The staff in the pro shop were extremely helpful and provided dry towels to take out on the course. We all enjoyed the course layout, lots of water but didn’t lose too many balls however keeping it straight is the name if the game. Can’t wait to go back and play when it’s not wet. Overall very enjoyable, highly recommended. Definitely rates as one of my favorite courses.

I am not a member of any course on the Gold Coast, I do play a lot of different courses. Cost via iseekgolf.com was $45 for the round, great value I think. Bunkers were GUR because of rain but rest of course in good condition.

Heaps of water but I didn’t lose many balls, so if you hit in the right place no drama!!

I have played here a couple times and enjoy the layout and for the price I think very good value

Staff are fantastic, not many on the course yesterday so I have not seen it busy

A tough challenge. I found the course to be quite tight particularly off the tee and plenty of water hazards in play – so bring plenty of balls. Condition of course was good although I found the greens to be more bumpy than those at the Glades. At $52 on I Seek for an early morning tee off the course represents good value compared to other Gold Coast courses although personally I preferred The Glades and Robina Woods.

Was very wet with bunkers terrible but what do you expect when you build a course in a flood plain. Greens putted well and staff were friendly and helpful. Probably the most water I have seen on a golf course and most balls I have ever lost in a round of golf. Would love to play it in the dry as it would be great I reckon.

Played last Thursday with high expectations. Course was quite damaged due to wet weather & flooding but that did not spoil our day. The staff were friendly and happy to accommodate us as our booking was a rescheduled one due to flooding of the course a fortnight earlier. All up the course was in pretty good nick especially as it was completely underwater. The pick of the holes for me were the two par 3’s (7th & 12th)while the 18th was a nice finish with a layup and pitch to the green. Will return to play again and hopefully be a bit more accurate.

The recent rainfall on the Gold Coast has certainly made this wonderful course a picture postcard.

Course was extremely wet and muddy.
Carts were not allowed to go on fairways which made the game much slower and bothersome.
I disagree with some earlier comments that Colonial is one of the best Gold Coast golf courses.
I have played in most courses in the gold coast and Colonial is definitely not one of the top tier golf courses such as Sanctuary Cove Pines, Glades, Hope Island etc.
Played at Glades the next day and the course seemed to have drained much better and far better maintenance.

The weather held out although it was quite windy. Some of the holes are very long and with the wind against us they were quite challenging. I am from W.A. and have played this course several times. The course has water on 17 holes and is generally in good condition and is good value for the courses available on the gold coast. The greens and fairways were in good condition considering the winter rains they have had and although a little muddy in places carts were used with no detriment to the course. The clubhouse ,proshop and halfway kiosk offer great service and a drink at the clubhouse after golf offered pleasant views of the last few holes. They also provide a course marshall which ensured no long delays in play. Well worth the effort to play here picturesque, challenging and value for money.

Tempted to play the course with the Iseek special, we were very very impressed with the course and the greens. Fairways were lush and well manicured and all but 2 greens were above average.

As always the water at Colonial comes into play alot but this time the water weeds [?] made it impossible to salvage your ball if it ever trickled in. Visibility in the water would be about 30 cm!

Nice halfway house.

Great course.

Would recommend, especially since other courses on the coast seem to be raising prices and shunning NON members.

With all the rain in the last few months everything was lush and green especially when off the fairway rough was thickish, also not much run. Whilst it isn’t the toughest course around it was a reasonable test given the mix of handicaps we had. The back nine in particular challenges those prepared to open their shoulders from the drive. Played here on Monday 29/3,the course is in good condition, I picked up a game through I Seek Golf for $50, which included a cart, met up with 2 other golfers, had a most enjoyable round. There is plenty of water, but there is nothing too tight about the layout. If you play conservatively, no hero shots, you can score reasonably well. The course is well laid out with excellent facilities. Greens were consistent and fair. Good value.

First of 3 we played during a week of golf on the gold coast. First few holes were a little on the boggy side due to heavy rain but after that it was very pleasant. greens were great, fairways were well maintained. hit a few absolute gems on the par 3’s which was a nice feeling.
Overall, a great course and was easily the best value for money compared to other top end courses. if you are after a well maintianed course with relativley flat surfaces & enjoy playing a course that is easy on the eye as well as the pocket – this is it!
& yes, like the others have mentioned before me, bring plenty of balls as sometimes great drives on any other course can slide down into the water on this one.

Great value for $50 with a cart for a round on a beautiful course. The course was in great condition, considering recent weather, especially the fairways, and very consistent greens. Hitting straight is the key on this course, tough off the black tees. The par 3 hole 12 at 202m into the wind with water to carry 175m is one of the hardest par 3s I have encountered.

Wow nice course for $49 with cart. Like all courses on the coast at moment in need of fresh sand and no rain. Greens good, faiways perfect, no rough to speak of only water. Clubhouse looks great, staff nice enough. Quick game of 3.5 hours. Will play here again for $50.

The greens had just been cored so they were rough, bumpy, sandy and very slow. The fairways were in excellent condition and I never had a bad lie. There are some really good holes. Definately need to hit the ball straight as there is water everywhere.

A great coarse and the facilties are second to none, a good feed can be had after the game as well. The coarse is challenging but not too difficult, so most golfers can play here and with a bit of thought have a good result. Though the water is everywhere it only really comes into play when you play stupid. Will play again but as with many Gold COast coarses, not at full price.

Played the course on the weekend. It was quite busy, but play flowed well. The fairways are nice and wide – and very well kept. The whole course played very well. My only complaint would be the lack of a restaurant. (there is a basic tuck shop at the half way, and a small bar.)

Enjoyed the day as it wasn’t too busy and so we whizzed round in 3 hours with no hold ups – had nice weather too which always helps. Greens were all being treated and so covered in sand – but we knew this beforehand as we got a cheap deal. Actually the putting was fine and the ball ran true on the majority of putts so it was just the appearance really that was affected. Course is pretty flat as a whole with no contoured fairways but has some good holes and features.

Clubhouse was very nice looking – unlike some of the souless boring buildings at other GC courses. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Very good and well maintained golf course. Water in play on 17 out of 18 holes. Greens were cored so cannot comment on that.

The green renovations have only just been done and the putting surface not ideal, but the rest of the course is immaculate. Our electric cart had no brakes, you had to apply the park brake to have any chance of stopping, it was dangerous and a sad indictment on the course. But it got worse, there was no drinks cart. When I mentioned at the halfway house that there was no drinks cart I was told "No, they told you that at the start" (No sorry … they didn’t). I was then told "Its because there aren’t enough people playing" (it was crowded)And Sorry … I thought drinks carts were not for the course profits but for player comfort. Then when buying my drinks at the halfway house they did not have the 60 cents change, so told me I had to buy something else with a bigger note. AMAZING!!! I am organising a group trip to the coast soon but wont be back to the Colonial.

BORING! I cant remember many holes at the colonial as all are the same! Given that the course designers didnt have much to work with with the flatest piece of land on earth.

Tip 1 – all greens putt straight no matter what curves you may think you see!

Tip 2 – try the Glades or Robina Woods, both just up the road for some descent golf. The Colonial is probably best described as a fancy golf course for beginners or high handicap golfers!

Played on Monday afternoon at 1.15pm
Course was in fine condition
Had a two player group ahead of me, they played like old chooks on a scavenger hunt, shocking to sit behind these guys and not once be asked to play through.
Despite the old chooks ahead, took me 4 hours to get around.
Nice course, wind on back nine picked up and made you think about your club selections, good day all round, except for the chooks…

We played it on a Tuesday and it was surprisingly busy. We took a break after the first nine and had trouble slotting back in.

Lots of water but its a good layout. Pretty hard when the wind is up and the greens don’t have much bite.

Well that was an interesting experience. The course is in good condition, all greens were smooth and true. Fairways were in great shape, once again like so many courses these days, can people rake their bunkers. It’s not the courses fault there are enough rakes, just people think not to do it.

As for the poor aspects of the day – the drinks cart was nowhere to be seen after 2:30pm. But the kicker for me was the iSeekgolf "special" of 10 free golf balls. What a joke!! These balls must have been drudged from the bottom of the deepest lake on the course. They were simply in a plastic bag with anything & everything – from balls with writing all over them to cuts & scratches, ladies balls, etc. If I walked pass one in the rough I wouldn’t even pick it up. Come on, I’m sure they could get some balls new at good rates wholesale.

PROS

  • General Course Condition

Cons

  • Service
  • "Free Ball" promotion
  • Lack of drinks cart

A great course with water on just about every hole (it seems). As an aside, the practice green was lightning fast and not a true indicator of the greens on the course. All the staff were friendly and generally polite. Tee off time was ON TIME even though they were into the 3rd round of their club championships, the course was set up reasonably difficult, the wind was howling and they were using the black tees.
A great course and I’d love to play there again.

208. 1n3ygrog18 | Rated | 03 Aug 2009 | Add A Review

Hi all. I played there yesterday as part of the $49 special with "10 FREE GOLF BALLS!!" What they forgot to tell you was that the balls were second hand dodgy models such as top flite cross outs and other similar quality balls that anyone who can break 100 would never actually use.
All that aside, the course was really quite a lot easier than I had anticipated given all the reviews. Although it may have been more of a challenge had we been allowed to play off the blue or black tees. I must admit I’m not a fan of paying my money to play a course, and then being ordered where I have to tee up from.
Anyway, yes there is a lot of water, but it’s generally only on one side of the hole (and normally up the right) and you only risk hitting the ball into some sparse trees if you head for the other side of the fairway. Speed of play was an issue, but that’s going to happen on a $49 special Sunday.
To compare it to other courses, I played North Lakes a couple of months ago and shot 136 off the back. Yesterday I shot 91. I played a bit better, but not 45 shots better!
So if you want a challenge, don’t play here if they’re going to make you play off the whites – you may as well play Parkwood and save yourself $50.

Having played at the Colonial for the first time on the weekend I thought the course was in very good condition. Yes, there was plenty of water but certainly not an extremely tough course even for the amateurs. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I thought it was reasonably priced as well for what you get.

We had a great game at Colonial. The course was well presented. We were late starting due to their competition running over time so we just made it in on dark which was a pity.

211. thobasime | Rated | 18 Jul 2009 | Add A Review

Course is quite good – lots of water to punish the wayward shots. However, management was incompetent. The booking was doubled up so we had a late start which made finishing the round unlikely. Then we had to follow a group who were allowed to play the whole round as a five which made finishing before dark impossible. We were so incensed that we tried to claim the 10 bonus balls which were part of the incentive offered on your site but not forthcoming up front but at 5:15 the pro shop was locked. WHAT A JOKE THIS PLACE IS. NO WONDER THEY’RE STRUGGLING FOR PLAYERS.

Played at Colonial for the first time on Friday afternoon, not very well but loved the condition and layout of the course. As said in most of the previous posts, the average golfer will need plenty of prunes as there’s heaps of water. You’ve gotta be staight and resonably long of the tee to gain good vantage to the greens. Left the course a bit disapointed after we copped a heavy rain deluge from about the 12th hole.

Played here and unlike some of the other comments didnt have good experience with staff. It started in pro shop given two keys told to see someone at shed for carts after standing around for 5 mins and watching other people come and go went back to the pro shop and was told will if no one there just grab what ever.

Watched three groups tee off and the group in front asked whe our tee time was, much to my suprise they had a 1:15 tee time the same as me I said to them that was the same as our tee time they said that the club does this often that they have no idea when someone books through iseek and that he had rang and booked.

Then some guy from the course came asking what our teetime was because the group behind was off at 1:08 where was he half hour ago i asked and said if he was here that things may not be all out of whack and how could you have double booked 1:15 he told me to take it up with general manager.so we got to watch another group go 1:28 before we got to tee off.

Most clubs have between 8-10 mins gap for tee off these have 7 mins and double book them it seems that all they are after is your money not a happy time .If you don’t mind a long game 5+ hours and being stuffed around go here.

Just a senseless course. Lets have lots of water hazards and pretty much nothing else. The fairways camber into the hazards which can make good shots painful.

235. b1_ | Rated | 11 May 2008 | Add A Review

Water trap overkill – the entire course is a repetitive mix of water trap, fairway, water trap, fairway, with no elevation to speak of. Will cost you $20 in lost balls on top of green fee if you’re anything but straight as an arrow and hitting your lengths. If you’re a beginner, take your cheapest balls or avoid completely. If you’re a low handicapper enjoy the challenge. Overly fast ‘billiard table’ greens. Bunkers shallow and too firm underfoot. No complaints about fairways. Picturesque and lots of vocal bird life add charm. Nice views to Goldcoast hinterland.

236. espenyogi | Rated | 29 Jan 2008 | Add A Review

Like most courses, hit the fairways and it isn’t a hard course – seriously.

However, when the wind is up and the black tees are in force, be prepared. It is a very tough course.

With all the recent rain the rough has grown to extremely tough conditions making the course very hard. When the rough is cut short the course is often unfair as the fairways camper towards the water and the ball NEVER stops!

The course was in magnificent condition despite some recent dry weather. The greens were terrific and fairways well grassed. The only negative I could muster was that the first cut off the fairway was too low leading into water hazards. A drive or long iron which was only marginally off centre had the potential to roll un-abated along the contours and into the water hazard without a noticeable first cut to hinder its progress. Otherwise magnificent.

I would not recommend this course to anyone, in terms of playability there is lots of water but the course offers nothing else. Comparitively to the other courses in the area it does not measure up. Badly designed with no logic behind the holes and no signs on the course to tell you where to go its a guessing game. The greens were good and true but had little undulation and in general it was pretty boring. There is lots of water which gives you a challenge to avoid, but where most courses have ridges leading up to the water the fairways almost all take your ball in. I shot an 87 with the wind blowing a fair bit and didn’t enjoy playing at this course.

Played at Colonial midweek in November after 2pm played at $55 twilight rate. Staff were great, felt very welcome. First thing i noticed was the speed and wuality of the greens. Made the error of not using the practice green before the round started, 3 putt, 3 putt, 3 putt. Couldn't imagine better greens considering the lack of rain recently. Course is challenging enough without being too punishing. Stray off the tee too much and you'll be wet, although you needn't be too accurate with fairways and rough generous to catch the average shots. Quality of course as good as any around. Definately recommend playing here, i will again for sure.

Further to my review of the 26/9/2006 despite 3 emails to course to advise them of my experience which were forwarded to the General manager, I am yet to receive a response. If this is the way they treat customers I can hardly recommend the course when there are numerous other courses on the Gold Coast at equal or cheaper prices. I found Coolangatta tweed (both river & West courses) to be be far superior and half the price.

The course whilst an excellent and well designed layout had undergone extensive maintenance (scarifying fairways) and we were not advised of this at time of booking nor were we offered any discount on green fees.

I think it would be very enjoyable and challenging course in top condition but we were denied the opportunity to find out. I suggest you contact the course to check for renovations or maintennace prior to booking and prepurchasing your green fees to maximise your experience.

This is a great track. Heaps of water but it's only in play on errant shots & "hero" shots.

Play this course conservatively and you'll score well. If you play here in an Ambrose event you will have a lot of fun & lose a lot of seeds.

The greens are not what they should be, on truly mint courses the ball rolls like it has a magnet under it holding it down. Here you can expect a bumpier roll which tends to make puts not break as much as they would appear to.

When the wind gets up the yardages both ways become critical and you'd be well advised to take a little extra time to get them right.

I played at the Colonial for the simple reasons it is meant to be a good quality course, and i had a two for one voucher (gotta love em).

I came, i saw, i was conquered... But not without some good parting shots!

I feel a true test of any golf course, is how well it tests your whole game. The Colonial tests your long game, your short game, most likely unless you are Tiger Woods your recovery game as well. No two holes seem to have played the same, good shots were rewarded, while poor ones usually suffered. There was enough water to stay in your head, but not enough to seem stupidly difficult for the average hacker (ie, you will find water)

An attractive course, well laid out and easy to navigate. The greens, fairways and rough are kept in good condition everywhere (there was some water build up on two fairways, not sure if that was sprinklers though).

My dad who i played with, found it a bit average, but he is a member of Brisbane. My only real complaint is about lazy golfers not fixing divots (use a tee if you don't have a repairer! Then pat down with your putter).

The facilities are good, with rest points, lots of drinking fountains, food and drink cart (don't have any of the sausage rolls, please), pro shop had most things you could want, halfway house was more like a coffee shop and also sold some basic golf equipment...

I would find it hard to shell out full price for this course, but it is definitely worth a round or two if you have the opportunity.

Played it for the first time on the weekend and was very impressed witht he course layout and quality of the fairways and greens. Well laid out and nice facilities including numerous on course shelters and a halfway house which came in handy during the brief showers we experienced during our round.

It was good value @ $45 (via a two for one voucher) but not exceptional considering there are other Gold Coast courses around for $100 that include GPS installed carts.

Good quality course that I would play again but not at the FULL price.

Hi, I am a Junior Memer at Colonial golf course, and admittedly im no Tiger Woods but the course definently isnt too hard, or too easy! There if definently plenty of water to avoid and I lose quite a few balls everytime I play. But it's always worth it. I enjoy playing there whenever I can. The staff are friendly and are always helpful if you need something. If you havent played there and are hesitating because of the price. It's definently worth the $87 or so. If you are visiting the Gold Coast and want to play at the best clubs while your here it's definetly one of them. I am sure you will enjoy your game there.

It is long off the black tees and can be a true challenge in the windy conditions. 17 holes have water on them so bring plently of balls. The par 3's all have some type of water carry off the back pegs.
