Unlike most golf clubs in the area, Parkes has access to reclaimed water with a storage dam between the course and the railway line used to water the course. The course conditioning is far better than other clubs in the area with the wide kikuyu fairways and teebeds mostly green with yellow patches, but overall mostly lush in areas especially the 15th & 16th teebeds.

The bent grass greens have a little poa in them but are mostly smooth, not fast, but not slow, with good consistent speed for a country course. There are only 2 bunkers on the mostly pine tree-lined parkland style course.

Parkes measures just over 6000m Par 71 from the back plates with five par 3s ranging from 138-190m, nine par 4s ranging from 261-391m and four par 5s ranging from 474-522m.

Highlights include: the opening 190m 1st (index 8) with a downhill teeshot; the 389m slight dogleg left 3rd (index 2) which plays slightly uphill from the dogleg corner; the 480m straight 7th (index 17) with the highest point on the course on the elevated teebox with OOB fence left of pine trees; the 377m slight dogleg right 8th (index 1); the 348m slight dogleg left 9th (index 5) which plays slightly uphill from the dogleg corner to a 2-tier front-sloping green; the 345m 90-degree dogleg left 10th (index 9); the 148m 11th (index 16) with the course’s only 2 bunkers guarding the green shortside; the 160m uphill 15th (index 10) with a left-sloping bunkerless green; the 522m straight 16th (index 12) has a pond 5m over the back edge of the 2-tier front-sloping bunkerless green and the 391m slight 45-degree dogleg right 17th (index 3) which has 2 storage ponds on the dogleg corner with a wide fairway and a narrow bunkerless green.

The par 3s are quite varied with a few uphill teeshots, the par 4s are a good length for a country course with only the 18th being very short, and the par 5s were all long but mostly straight. The club should reverse the outward nines, as the par 4 9th is a much better finishing hole with the clubhouse behind the green than the weak par 4 uphill 18th.

Located on the south-western side of town Parkes is one of the better courses in the area. Parkes has about 10000 people approximately 320m above sea level. The course is on London Road which is accessed from Hartigan Avenue from town or Saleyards Road off the Newell Highway from the south.

Played here 1st August 2011 with $20 visitor green fees. Could do with water hazards or even a few more sand hazards to rival Dubbo’s layout, but is in better condition than nearby Forbes. Parkes is about 75 minutes south of Dubbo or 1 hour west of Orange.

I played here for the first time last week 30/10/09. Considering Parkes is in a drought the course is in exceptional condition. The fairways are all green as well as the greens. There are plenty of trees which come into play on virtually every hole which makes it very interesting. The 18 holes for $20 (non member) is well worth it and I’ll definately be back sometime soon.

Parkes is a country gem in my opinion. Challenging layout for a B grader. Shots on and around the greens will often make the difference between a good score and a bad one. The course is in fantastic condition. I played millionaires golf on a Thursday morning – no one else around.

While there are not many bunkers, water hazards etc, I didn’t find this detracted from the course because it was tough enough anyway for somebody of my ability.

I have been playing Parkes Golf Club for approx 25 years now every Sept in the Parkes Open weekend. I rate Parkes GC very highly and it is always in very good condition, especially the greens which are very tricky and hard to read. I would recommend anyone who is attneding or passing thru Parkes to stop and try this very challenging golf course. I also have always found the members and staff very friendly and helpful.

i played Parkes at Christmas 2006. i come from Parkes and was very keen to play there. the greens are remarkable, they will make your game very, very challenging. there aren’t too many hazards, however, the course will challenge anyone. The locals can be a bit unfriendly at times, but the Pro was great to talk to. Having played a few courses in C/West NSW, it certainly rates up there as one to keep going back to.

I'm a regular user of the parkes course, and it presents the golfer with a solid and very adequate layout. The course itself lacks in features in terms of water and bunkers. However the layout is very good. There is quite and lot of undulation throughout the course to keep players interested, and the greens and fairways are exceptionally well kept for a rural course. The layout is of average length, but does have some quite lengthy par 5's. Overall it is a well kept course and advisable to play, especially considering the fees are as cheap as chips.
