There are a few country courses that could take a note out of Pinnaroo’s book in terms of it’s course. I know they are lucky to have bore water to keep it green, but what they’ve done is create a cracker of a nine hole course rather than stretch themselves to a poorer quality 18 holer. In drought conditions it was still in very good condition, and plenty green.
Apart from the OOB and trouble on the edge of the course, the interior doesn’t pose too many challenges. One lake comes into play around the 7th green and there are only a couple of bunkers scattered around the course.
The best part of the course is the last three holes. A long par 5 with water near the green, then a very short par 4, both of which are dog-legs, follwed by a hole that plays as a long par 4 the first time round, then a short par 5 for the last. With OOB down the left for that hole it’s a tricky par 4 and a cheeky par 5.
A good quality nine hole course that provides a bit of an alternative in a pretty dry region.

Pinnaroo measures 2888m Par 36 with two par 3s ranging from 133-160m, five par 4s ranging from 260-379m and two par 5s ranging from 463-495m.
Course has 9 small grass greens which were cored recently when I played – so I am assuming they are bent grass greens. Outside from the metropolitan course it is very rare to see couch grass fairways and Pinnaroo’s were quite lush and smooth to play off. There were kikuyu grass surrounding the greens with 3 bunkers on the course.
Apart from the 9th/18th tee mound which are 50m apart and changes the par of the hole, the tee mounds are close to each other if playing the back nine and play the same par of either front or back nine tee mound.
1st-359m / 10th-287m slight dogleg left to a bunkerless green
2nd-160m / 11th-200m slightly uphill with a greenside bunker short right. A good hole.
3rd-359m / 12th-333m gentle dogleg right to a bunkerless green
4th-133m / 13th-149m slightly uphill to a bunkerless green with the OOB Pinnaroo Soldiers Memorial Hospital on you right
5th-280m / 14th-315m straight hole with Bundey Terrace OOB on your far right with a bunker 20m short left of the green
6th-463m / 15th-426m slight dogleg right Par 5 with a left-sloping fairway with trees and thick Mallee scrubs on the right to a green guarded by a bunker short left. A good hole.
7th/16th 495m same tee mound used for the front/back nine, with a blind teeshot over a fairway crest which doglegs to the left from 350m off the tee to a bunkerless green with a pond far left which is out of general play for any decent golfer
8th-260m / 17th-234m slight dogleg left from 160m off the tee to a small 2-tier front-sloping bunkerless green with thick vegetation on the left dogleg corner
9th- Par 4 379m / 18th- Par 5 431m with a blind teeshot over a fairway crest with the OOB dirt Bone Road on your left with a pine-tree lined fairway to a bunkerless green. A good finishing hole.
A decent challenge given that 5 flags are not visible from the tee mound, and I’ll say Pinnaroo is more challenging than the short 18-hole grass green layout at Lameroo.
Pinnaroo is a small town close to the Victorian border of around 650 people about 40km east of Lameroo. Played here 2nd October 2011 with $10 green fees for 9 holes. Course access is from Devon Terrace near the northern edge of town.
