A very good 9 hole course in scenic surrounds. Very good condition, this course should see more golfers, we love the place.

It is rather short (the par 5 should be a 4 on length alone), but the doglegs in both directions and placement of trees in the middle of the fairway add to the challenge. Make it a bit of fun and keep the driver in the bag.

Very scenic and a pleasure to play.

A scenic 9 hole gem that all Perth golfers should play once, at least. Our 4-ball started at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon, there was a bit of traffic but we rarely waited more than a minute or so off any tee. The first hole should be straightforward, but it requires precise golf to get on in reg. Perhaps Perth’s shortest par 5 is an opportunity to make an impression on your scorecard, but you’ll have to negotiate one of its toughest par 3s before you do. Every hole here is different, dog-legs in both directions, harsh-but-fair rough and some of the best greens on any WA public course.

Got a quick 9 holes in on the afternoon of Saturday 21/3/09, hitting off at about 4.40pm. I guess I was just looking to play somewhere new for a change, so I decided to head South of the river in search of this little course and check out the scene. At $16.50 for 9 holes, its about average for a Perth public course.

The course is a bit undulative which makes things interesting for the first time, especially the par 4 1st and the par 5 2nd that are both uphill tee shots. However I think the second at 406m long has to be the shortest and easiest par 5 in WA. Any competent player who fails to par this one should consider it almost a bogey. Its also probably one of 3 holes on the course I’d hit driver off the tee on, the others are the 8th and the 7th. The only real strength of this layout though is possibly the length of its two par 3’s, the second at 165m (downhill) and the 6th at 177m (small elevated green). At only 5250m long, this is a par 70 course that would have a theoretical CCR of 65 most days I’d Imagine. Single figure golfers should consider paring it to be their goal and anything more to be just an average round as mine was at +3 for the 9 holes. This has to be one of Perths easiest golf courses.

A few bunkers could make this course a better challenge, though the major criticism I have is the variance of the greens. They are cut a good length and are well maintained for a public course by the greenstaff who I saw out watering them, however the 8th and 9th greens are like concrete and quick, with all the others very soft and slow. I guess for a public course you must expect this, but this had the capacity to ruin my score. I’ll still stick by my belief that Maylands Peninsula has the most consistent greens for a public course in Perth, whether they be slow or quick – they are all of the same speed and firmness. Despite being a reasonable course for a 9 hole layout, I’m not sure if I’d drive all the way back almost to Freo to play it again – I’ve been there, done it and nothing really took my fancy. I still consider 18 holes at either of the two Wembley courses or at Maylands Peninsula to be the best value for a public course. Point Walter has a nice BBQ area, bar area with a small pro shop. Its ok for beginners and people having a social hit. It get 2.5 stars from me but I wouldn’t rate it much higher.

Good value for money course with good views of the Swan River. No bunkers or water hazards to contend with, and the fairways are in good condition. The greens could do with some work though. Doesnt seem to get many players on weekdays, so great secluded spot to get a quick 9 holes in.

I played Point Walter early during the week a few weeks ago as a warm up to a round of 18 at Burswood and it was a very enjoyable round. The course has no water traps and little bunkers but with its tight and sloping fairways it can be quite a challenge.

If you are looking for a course that has a great scenic touch and is not littered with water and bunkers than this is the course to go to. And for the fee of $14.00 a round it is really good value.

Point Walter is a very well priced at $13.00 you can have a great 9 holes. The views for some of the holes like the 7th, makes you feel like you are playing at one of the more over priced or priced clubs. I have played here twice in the last few weeks and have enjoyed the game. With the extremely well kept fairways and greens, it makes for a great game of golf. For those thinking of playing at point Walter I would highly recommend it, you don't need to pay a huge price to play at a great course.

Great little 9-holer measuring 2675m Par 35 with 2 Par 3s ranging from 165-180m, with one 406m Par 5 and 6 Par 4s ranging from 305-345m. A rough test of golf overlooking the scenic Swan River. My first course I played in WA and was impressed with the quality of fairways, greens and tee-beds. A little bare fairways in some parts but overall, no two hole that is alike. However, there are no water hazards on the course. Many holes have some sort of blind rise, tree to over around or over, and doglegs that keep your round interesting. And the bunkers and tree-lined fairways can easily make the hole even harder to par. The view from the 7th tee is nice, considering I just landed in Perth and played near Fremantle. Played here 22/2/06 and paid $13.50 green fees for 9 holes.

A nice and scenic little 9 hole course situated next to the swan river provides a good relaxing weekend of golf.. Pity it's only 9 holes, but with it's tight and undulating fairways, it provides the average golfer with a non-boring public course. Doglegs and tempting Par 4's provides some good course management, with a massive gum tree in the middle of the fairway to boot! :) Definitely worth a visit with plenty of other recreational areas that can be utilised around the surround parklands.
