We want to first apologise to the Port Broughton GC for playing all 18 holes when it was only meant to be played as a 9 hole course. But to be fair it was hailing when we started our round and it was also Grnad Final morning so I think we can be forgiven.
The course itself wasn’t in bad condition for late in the season, and it generally wasn’t clear which of the holes were part of the nine in play (had we had a good look at the card before starting we may have had more of an idea).
The two best holes on the course are perhaps the par 4 10th with a big dogleg right that was in superb condition when played, and the 18th which was a good way to finish the round.
In trying conditions the course played well and was definately worth the trip.

Port Broughton has 18 black soil scrapes which are all played during the winter months. During the summer months the club chooses the best 9 holes to play on, with other holes not maintained to the standard of whatever holes are in play. The lesser maintained 9 holes during the summer months are supposedly closed to the public and members advise to play the course as a 9-holer in the summer months only.
When I visited the 9 holes (from the 18 holes) in play were the closest holes to the clubhouse: the 298m straight 1st, holes 7-13 and the 364m slight bend right 18th. I agree the 355m 10th which doglegs 60 degrees right is a good hole with short trees lining the fairway to the scrape.
Despite the club’s good decision, to play on its best 9 holes during the summer months and its varied layout options, there are no bunkers and the course still offers basic golf facilities with its flat mostly straight boring layout. Fees are $5
PB is on a sheltered inlet, locals call Mundoora Arm Inlet from the Spencer Gulf, in the extreme north-western end of the Yorke Peninsula.
The town has just under 1000 people and is about 48km north of Kadina and 60km south of Port Pirie. Course access is from Fisherman Bay Road.
