Measures 5650m Par 72 with five par 3s ranging from 103-188m, eight par 4s ranging from 304-360m and five par 5s ranging from 447-471m.

Course has 18 black soil scrapes with mostly flat and straight holes. Holes are very much like the 326m straight 1st (index 5) with a synthetic grass mat on a concrete 2m x 2m square block used as the teeing ground. The par 4s are quite short and of similiar length.

The layout is very linear with the Spencer Gulf no more than 500m from the western boundary fence with great views to the east of the southern Flinders Ranges. There is a railway line along the entire western boundary fence and the A1 Highway along the entire eastern boundary fence.

Holes 1-13 are played on the southern side of the clubhouse, whilst, holes 14-18 are played on the northern side of the clubhouse. No surprises here. Having played Royal Adelaide a week after I visited Port Germein, there is no hole that crosses any railway line or roadway here, so apart from golf flags, I am not sure how there is any link with Royal Adelaide. Barely basic golf facilities here. Fees are $5

The course is about 2km long by no more than 200m wide. Course access is from the A1 Highway about 3.5km south-east of the town centre on the way to Port Pirie.

Port Germein is a small gulfside village of around 250 people. The closest grass green course is Port Augusta which is less than 45 minutes north.

Pt Germein at this time of year is a little gem, talk to the locals and they will tell you the course has never looked better and the fairway coverage is becoming thicker every year. The scrapes are very consistant thruout the 18 not so easy holes but to have these great scrapes keeps your putts to a mininum.The wind does get up at times but you’ll soon forget about it as you walk the course with the spectacular Flinders Rangers on one side and the beautifull Spencer Gulf to the other.Give it a go you’ll be back.

I think that there wouldn’t be a more exposed golf course in the state at the moment, and that includes the links lady bay. Pt Germein is literally metres from the coast, and when the big South Westerlys blow you wont find any protection around here.
Don’t think that its locality next to the coast will help you though, as it sure is easy to lose a few balls around here late in the season. And thats exactly what happened to us, meaning a pink ball was required due to it being the last ball in the bag. Mind you, that probably wasn’t helped by it being the third course played for the day.
Pt Germein has a link with Royal Adelaide, as it too has a railway line through the middle of it. However, if you’re lucky you will see a freight train or perhaps even the Ghan out here.
In what I would call a brilliant move the 1st has a tree in the middle of the fairway. You’re going to have to be on your game from shot one here. Another great hole is the short par 4 12th that can be very easy if you hit it straight, but which runs along the train line meaning that OOB is in play, and with a reasonably protected green it definately isn’t easy.
Pt Germein has more trouble than a lot of the mid north courses but is also quite dry and would definately be better in the depths of winter.
