Played the front 9 here yesterday & I loved it.
The fairways are undulating, there’s beautiful scenery, lots of kangaroos & other wildlife. Interesting access to the course past the army security gates and over the bridge, you feel privileged to play there.

The course isn’t in it’s best ever condition so don’t go expecting gold star quality, however if you’re in the area it’s definitely worth a look. Feels like a links style course.
It has some very deep pot bunkers that can be a challenge to get out of.
The course is obviously struggling for membership at the moment so I’d encourage everyone to get out & play this course to help it along. It’d be a shame to lose a course like this one.

I paid $18 for 9 holes incl pull buggy.

As you drive away from the seaside township of Queenscliff out into the bay on a little ribbon of asphalt, it's hard to believe that you're heading for a golf course. But out on the island there it is and what a nice surprise. As a sand island it's a perfect place for a golf course and the surrounds and views create a pleasant atmosphere. The only downside is that the course is low lying and appears to suffer regular inundation in places. I guess the inundation is salt water as the grass and vegetation is dead or dying in these areas, leaving bare or boggy patches within the course, usually on the fairway.

When the wind picks up (the weather report was giving Strong Wind warnings for the Bellarine Peninsula and bays) this course is difficult as there is nothing to act as a windbreak. Combine the wind with plenty of coastal scrub and water hazards and the course is very challenging.

Holes 12 to 15 were my favourites, as they were fairly isolated and ran in different directions, meaning different ways of combating the effects of the wind. The 12th curves around wetlands; the 13th runs through the scrubland and has plenty of undulations in the fairway; the 14th is a par three set deep into the foliage and the 15th has a left to right slope on the fairway.

Green fees are $22 (weekdays) / $25 (weekends) which is excellent value for money for a course as good as this one.

I played this course early Jan 05. What an exciting course great links style layout. This course features hidden greens from the tee due to undulating fairways. Be sure that your sand trap play is up to scratch as you will have to take on several fairway bunkers. Theses bunkers are reachable from the tee for the average golfer that drives between 200-230meters.

You will encounter coastal tee trees with loose sandy sufaces surrounding them. This is a course that requires accuracy and placement from the tee and at times the driver is left in the bag. I was able to score well by using my 3w & 2iron for accuracy and placement, only used the driver on approx 6 holes.

Pack your digital camera there are several views worth keeping.

Queenscliff golf course is situated on Swan Island, a large sand island, making it one of the most isolated and serene golf courses in Victoria. Being invisible from the mainland, most visitors are pleasantly suprised by what they see on driving over the bridge and past the army security gates. Queenscliff Golf Club welcomes all visitors and green fee players who can usually find a spot on the tee every day. The course is playable every day due to the excellent drainage. The large flat greens are almost faultless and all good putters will enjoy seeing well hit putts hold their line and speed. The fairways vary with half already converted to santa ana couch and the rest a mixture of different grasses planted over the history of the club. Queenscliff may appear short compared to new courses but thick tea tree and scrub will keep players of all levels honest. Queenscliff is a well kept and hidden secret.
