Since the partial upgrade to this course, there have been many changes and improvements, and I’m pretty impressed with the result.
The quality of the greens have quite definitely improved on most holes (the green on 1st is incredibly soft, with a really muddy GUR area right in front of it), with the 6th/15th and the 8th/17th seeing huge improvements.
Difficulty level has increased slightly (I think) with the upgraded greens and added bunkers, and has made playing a round at Regency all the more enjoyable. It’s currently at 68 ACR, so advanced players will find this place a toddle.
Standing on the 6th/15th green, you also get a pretty impressive view of the Superway that is under construction not 100m away. To protect passing traffic from the course, the fence has also been upgraded to a massive black net that is about 7 or 8 metres high, and stretches the length of one whole side of the course. It’s a huge improvement over the last fenceline, which was tired and shoddy.
The staff at the course are great, and the prices are very reasonable. To pay $10 in the afternoon (after 3pm I think) for 9 holes is a bargain. The atmosphere is always convivial, and except for one incident where some random local bastard took a crap in the 8th hole, there aren’t too many twats.
If you haven’t checked out this course since the upgrade, I strongly recommend you book in a round before the Superway is completed. I suspect it will be pretty noisy after that (Dec 2013).
