Pretty nice layout. Had good, smooth but slow greens and a excellent array off both native and introduced tall old trees. A lot of water around the course which surprised me. About 80% off course was flat with slight undulation. The course looks short on paper at par 70 5774 metres, but there is four or five very testing and long par 4’s that make playing under your handicap a battle. I particularly liked the design and bunkering of the course. There were many variaties of birds on the course, i must have seen ten, including a pelican, which was a bit weird.
The fairways were the part of the course i was least impressed with, the grass a little scrappy and patchy.
Personally i preferred Richmond to Penrith, it having better variety in holes and design and more lush grass plus better greens, and also a better setting It is a very quaint old course and arguably the best in the penrith valley.
overall 7.5/10

Measures 5774m Par 70 (from the new blue plates) with five par 3s ranging from 145-178m, ten par 4s ranging from 253-399m and three par 5s 501m straight 1st, 465m straight 6th and 483m slight dogleg right 16th. Course is in good condition, flat and slow greens and tree-lined fairways. Some good strategic bunkering around some holes.

Easy to walk this flat golf course layout. Open competitions are the same as Windsor (Wed, Fri, Sun) for $23 is great value for the visitor.

Played here 31 May 2010 on a cloudy, drizzly, 20-30kmh south-westerlies day and paid $12 for Mondays (the same as Windsor). The front nine is not so challenging as the water doesn’t really come into play -except 3rd/maybe 4th & 7th.

What separates this course to Windsors is a group of holes on the back nine that is distinctively Richmonds. When you tee off over the large dam at the 178m 10th, you really beging to feel that your accuracy is required for your outward nine.

Highlights here are 368m slight dogleg left 11th to an upraised green sloping towards the fairway. Holes 13-15 (Amen Corner – as the pro calls it) is quite challenging and suddenly the water certainly comes into play. Its like a different resort style feel…but the final 3 holes are much easier, so if have kept your head around Amen Corner, you can quite easily beat your handicap here…

Back nine here beats Windsors, but Windsors front nine smokes Richmond for challenge and quality. I can not really separate the two courses, but I do recommend a round here at this very friendly club.

Plyed there in the Richmond Cup on saturday, for the first time and quite liked the course

Par 4and 5s are weak but the Par 3 (off the back) are quite strong.

Course was in good condition.

Well worth a game there

Better than Winsor GC

Fairly good testing course, with its fair share of bunkers on most holes to ensure that you need accurate approach shots. The greens were a bit soft, but ran at an even pace.

Particularly enjoyable holes were the par 4 3rd (long iron off the tee or the driver across the water hazard if you’re adventurous), the 9th (short par 4 where to reach the green from the tee, you need to thread it through bunkers protecting the front left and right – mid iron for safety), the par 4 14th (again, the option of a long iron for safety or a driver over water hazard, then approach to a large slightly elevated green) and par 3 15th (mid iron across water hazard). Variety of bird life adds to the character of the course – saw a few swans and even a couple of pelicans.

$12 for Mon and Thurs after 10am great value for money.

Played there today and found it in very good condition. Fairways were nice, greens were nice and it was even a pleaseure to hit it out of the rough a few times as these areas are also well kept. Had 1 crow steal a ball but i can live with that. Found the course reasonably challenging without being overly difficult. Still managed to shoot a 91 on my first outing here. Best to go on mondays or thursdays after 10am as its only $12. I’ll definately be back.

PROS

  • Well kept

Played last weekend, enjoyed it. Great course. They should handout whistles or some thing as the magpies are a menace for the stealing the balls. Our group saw 5 balls taken away.

played today 26/02 and found the overall condition of the course to be quite good, the social tees were well forward and in poor condition which made most holes quite short fairways were in good nick with agood covering of grass in fact the course was green and lush the greens were a good speed once the sun came up although they were very soft pitch marks even from bunkers? which were a bit ordinary with 12 inch grass around the edges making them look untidy the club have changed the course around since we last played there too many par 3 holes close together causing a back up on both nines most dissapointing was the attitude of the pro which i found quite arrogant but would come back and like to play it off the back markers

This course was a real suprise packet. A really good variety of holes and considering the drought was in good condition. The greens were are little slow but this did not deter from the enjoyment.

Amen corner (13/14/15) are excellent holes and a true test for any golfer.

Really good course will definitley come back and the green fees at $22.00 mid week is a steal compared what they charge at some of the Sydney goat tracks.

Now I am not a bias person. I myself am a member of the australian and in my time I have had a few rounds at some of Australias top courses and richmond is right up there. The course feels as if it has a magical feeling about it. It is situated in rural richmond but the course itself boasts as many water hazards as the eye can take in. It boasts it's own amen corner. This course is one to be reckoned. I warn you though it is not one for the feint hearted.

Richmond is nice and flat with 'carpet-like' wide tree-lined fairways offering true lies, sand-filled bunkers, landscaped water hazards such as ponds and dams and mid to large sized greens that are mid speed with a true roll and are actually green in color!

The long holes are long enough for driver and long iron or even a fairway wood and the short holes are good where actual shot selection is necessary as opposed to just a distance game. Thus all clubs in the bag get a hit.

What more could I possibly ask for?

Definitely worth a visit, probably prefer it to be springtime or a warm winter's afternoon as it can get pretty hot in summer.

A reasonable course, but nothing special.

Very flat with only man made terrain to add movement to the land. No holes really stand out from an architectural point of view, but there is nothing aweful. 11 & 14 are probably the best.

The course is over watered, which makes the fairways too soft & the greens bouncy.

The layout is pretty boring & not worth playing unless you are in the area.

A really enjoyable course that's easy to work and a good test of your golf ability.

Whilst not overly long (although the front is about 3000m) this course is quite a test, particularly the back nine on a windy day.

The front nine is quite tight and long but generally the easier of the nines.

A fairly long 512m 1st plays long with a lot of trees on the left and a hazard on the right near the green. A good test for a long hitter to reach in two. The 2nd is a short par 3 to a large two tier green. Two bunkers and water left and long add a bit of a test to the 18th rated hole on the course.

The 3rd and 4th are straightforward par/birdie chances although the 3rd requires good club selection across the dam.

The 5th is long at 400m with an uphill large green protected by 3 bunkers. A good par when the wind's in your face. A straightforward par 5 sixth with OB down the left side leads into a nice 7th hole which challenges a good hitter to hit the green - only 280m away but protected by a small creek at about 210m.

The back opens with a nice hole in the 10th. From the back markers 180m with water all left, or from the normal markers 150m with water carry for 135m.

Water again come into play on 11 and 12 with neither being a particularly hard hole.

The back shows it's teeth with the wind, particularly the 13-14-15 combo with 14 being quite a test with water on both sides approaching the huge undulating green. Three putts are common on this green so you're not out of the woods if you hit the green in regulation.

15 is a beautiful looking hole and probably claims the most balls of any hole.

The last three holes are quite straightforward and short (par 5, 4, 4) although 18 has been known to bite back with OB all the way down the left. OTOH a good drive can hit the green at only 250m away or even a middle iron only leaves an easy wedge if you're worried about the OB and want to protect a good score or are worried about the 3 large bunkers protecting the green.

The clubhouse is still a bit of a disappointment but work has been progressing and it is improving all the time. At least it's a casual place for a beer after the game to discuss all the "could-ave-beens"!

One of the better courses in the Hawkesbury region. The course is not overly long and the fairways are in great condition. The greens are very well maintained and fairly true.
