Played Rosebud Park today and what a treat.
Beautiful views, course in excellent condition and at $34 a round it is one of the best all round experiences on the peninsula.
Highlights are the views – especially the 1st, 4th and 13th, which would be one of the best par 5’s I’ve played.
The fairways were all sensational with good spongy cover. The only thing that could be criticised was the bunkers could use a little extra sand.
The greens were true but hard to read and as mentioned, all greens slope towards the bay – bar none, no matter what your brain and eyes tell you.
All in all an excellent course.

Played Rosebud Park again yesterday & just confirmed what i already thought: best value public course in Victoria.
We had a mssive downpour the night before but you would never have known.
Course is always in good condition.
It provides a good challenge with a mixture hills & doglegs.
Keep in mind that all putts gravitate towards the ocean.

Wow…considering the price you pay and the fact that it is public, this course is an absolute gem. The fairways are spongy and would not be out of place on the top courses in Melbourne. Greens are in excellent condition and I would repeat Wazzal’s comments…no matter what you may think, the break goes towards the water.
Which then brings me to the scenery. The designers have got it right and maximised the water views as much as possible. It is a bit hilly but worth it once you get to the top. Layout is moderately challenging with undulating fairways and greens coupled with plenty of bunkers.
Great little course and well worth recommending. Make sure you also go across the road to the pub and sit on the balcony for even more spectacular views.

By "real" I mean one that doesnt price out half of the market!! This is an absolute bargain! We payed just over $70 for two of us INCLUDING a cart!!
Considering the drought that we are in, the course is unbelievably well kept and greener than any public course in Melbourne (apparently due to their greywater recycling system).
As a previous reviewer stated the views are what nudges this course above the rest..It is quite simply stunning! From the 1st tee, the the 12th and 13th, the panaromas will make u kick yourself if u forget to bring your camera!
Some great holes in here too! A few short uphill par fours (I counted 4 around 300m or less) but dont get too greedy off the tee. Here is a hint for the 12th, although the sloping fairway would seem to suggest playing right, if you hit the ball 280m off the tee, u end up carrying the fairway, so try to cut the corner a bit more and you will be in good shape for your approach on this wicked dogleg!
We played sunday afternoon and got caught in the middle of a comp, which was slow enough, but we were round the front nine in 2 hrs, then didnt see a single person in front or behind us the whole back nine!! I reckon if u were to play at 4pm on Sunday you would be finished by 730pm! Unlike Moonah, Eagle Ridge et al.
Sure this may not have the calibre of the sandbelft or dunes courses, but as far as value for money, a great setup and friendly locals this place is definately a 5 star course!!

This would have to be one of, if not the best viewing public golf course around. Stunning views of Port Phillip Bay. So much so, your score almost doesn't matter. I said almost.
The opening hole is a perfect example, a fantastic view right down to Portsea greets on this par 5, which is very reachable in 2, if you keep to fairway off the tee. The course is always in excellent condition a credit to the groundstaff.
As mentioned in previous reviews, first timers will not beleive that putts will roll up hill, but they do. Just need to remember the fall is always to the ocean. Also never & I mean never leave the ball above the hole on the 10th, as it will be nigh on impossible to stop the ball on the return putt.
However the one shot I always look forward to is the 3rd on the par 5 13th. Yes you can try to cut the corner off the tee & reach it in two, but the safer & much more viually enjoyable way is the more conservative drive, 3 iron & wedge and it is this wedge shot I look most forward to.
Picture this, Cicily 1932, no, no thats a TV show.
Picture a 100 -120 metre downhill wedge shot, as you look toward the green your eys catch the coast line from Rosebus to Portsea, yatchs on the bay, some lucky soles water skiing, blue sky as far as you can see.
You make your shot, at first you think you have flown the green, as you your ball seems intent on joining some of those lucky water skiers at Rye, then as like someone has put up an invisible wall your ball falls straight down with a thud, hopefully only a few feet from the pin. Ah there is not a more beautiful sight in golf. Sorry for getting carried away.
But I cannot recommend this course any higher, its tight, undulating, but gives the good golfer the opportunity to make a good score, so please give it a try.

Before works begun on the back nine a couple of years ago, we would drive an hour to play at Rosebud Park most Sundays, as it was (and possibly still is) one of the few public courses the full time worker can play on the weekend without fear of an 18 hole round of golf becoming a torturous stop start five and a half hours of mayhem. We returned a few days ago having given the course a chance to settle since the works on holes 11, 12 and 13 were completed.
The front nine was exactly as we remembered. Fantastic lush fairways, slick greens rolling inexplicably uphill toward the sea (but once you have learnt these nuances as true as any you will play) and wonderful bay views. A lay out that is challenging but not too difficult for the weekend golfer.
A couple of years ago the back nine consisted of 2 Par 5's, 3 Par 3's and 4 Par 4's. The Par 5's were both of a U shape which either allowed you to risk going over the trees (a big drive for most) and reaching in two or playing it more conventionally around the fairway. The first of these Par 5's (the old 11th) has been changed into a Par 3 and a short driveable Par 4. Most likely for public liability reasons as the old 13th tee virtually adjoined the old 11th fairway.
Whatever the reason, one of my favourite aspects of the course has now been changed and ruined the whole experience for me. The two new holes look a little squashed in and I reckon there are enough 250m Par 4's on our public courses already.
In closing you will not find too many affordable public courses in better condition but unfortunately the new layout on the back 9 has wrecked what was once my favourite golf course.

I've played this course a couple of times now, and can't give it enough credit it deserves. The first hole basically wraps up the course very nicely. A longish par 5 heading down from Arthur's Seat, with a view over Port Phillip Bay to die for. Most of the holes rung along side of the hill, meaning your drives, not matter how much you hit it right, will roll down to the right. The back nine has three holes (11,12,13) which were designed by TWP, which add to the course. A really great course and a must for all golfers.

This course boasts the most magnificent views over Port Phillip Bay that you could ask for! An added bonus is a delightfully well maintained public golf course with excellent fairways and fast greens which seem to defy gravity and always run towards the sea! Hasn't got the prestige of many of it's neighbours on the Mornington Peninsula however it is well worth a visit. Some may find it a bit steep but the view is great to look at while you catch your breath!

Fantastic views from the first tee which greets you as you hope the hand brake on your car works as the car park is very steep! Fairways are a bit thatchy but the bunkers were in great nick. Think they may have done a bit of reno on them recently. The greens were a little soft but roll very true. Definatly worth having a look at and quite cheap.
