roxby downs is not a bad little course. the front nine is very good with a nice layout, lots of doglegs and even a couple of blind tee shots. you can’t play in summer. the weather is too hot and the flies are insane. you also get to hit off a grass mat if you are on the fairway. the back nine is awful, bordering on unplayable. i understand that we are in the desert but i feel that they took things too far with 18 holes. i’d rather have 9 good holes then have 9 average holes and 9 terrible holes. if you are going through the area you should stop and play the front nine. its quite good.

Grass green's north or west of Adelaide in South Australia are a pleasant suprise. There are so few that you can count them on your fingers. The course like the town, sits amongst the red sand dunes. The front nine holes are better than the back nine. The front nine has grass teeing area's and grass greens. There is large patches of grass on the fairways that you will make with an average drive but don't expect much run in the sand if you hit one short. Because of the sand you get preferred lie or you can hit off a mat. The back nine holes have less grass and on several holes you hit off artificial grass. There is one sand scrape on the 15th but apart from that you are putting on grass. The fairways have less grass than the front nine but considering where you are, it's not too bad. The course is best played from Autumn through Spring. In summer the heat and the flies will drive you mad. The members are friendly and the clubhouse is simple, but a good spot for a beer after the game. Don't expect to find your ball if it goes in the rough. The wattle, saltbush and sand will camoflage your ball nicely. There is also a local rule for ball stealing crows - didn't believe it till I saw it. For an Australian golf course it is rough but considering where you are, it's a top little course. Worthwhile bringing your clubs if your passing through.
