This could be a wonderful course. It is picturesque and challenging. There are no busy roads, just beautiful views. Although the club staff are helpful and obliging, and the members friendly, it needs an injection of cash and interest by the owners themselves to entice new members and maintain the ones it already has.

course in poor condition

possibly the worst course conditions I have played. So much potential but is currently in shocking conditions. All bunkers are GUR, cart tracks almost undrivable, greens lacking grass and covered in leaf litter and a few holes the tees have a tree directly in front of them.
Club house staff were lovely, but I wouldn’t play there again even if someone paid for my round.

Shut this place down, has huge potential and great views, but the current owners obviously don’t give a flying fig about the condition of the course. Terrible and a true waste of a golf course. Shame, Shame, Shame

Samford is a complete disaster – weeds in the sand bunkers – steel pegs everywhere including around the greens complete with blue and yellow seqeb rope – dangerous paths and tracks – the place is run down and the carts (motorised) have seen better days – 2 of us played there with a motorised cart $82 – a joke!

Having played at Samford for the last 18 months, i must say it has improved dramatically over the last few months. With more rain & a bit more work on the weed control on the greens im sure it will get even better. The thing that keeps me going back to this course is the friendly staff & members both at the pro shop & on the course. How many golf courses have you played at recently were the club pro actually remembers your name???

I have been playin here for a few years now on and off. This is normaly a very good course but sad to say it has gone down hill very recently. No bunkers in operation (overgrown with weeds) and the buggies have seen better days. with a little TLC this course could be brought back to the way it was.

Having played samford a few times i find it to be quite a challenging course. I think the owners do a great job considering we havn’t had decent rain for a while.People bag this course but they must be hackers as i find it to be in fairly good condition considering. You have to try it from every tee marker position not just off the hacker yellow markers as the course plays totally different off each marker spots.Everyone should give it a go but if u are too upper class you should go to Keperra

As I have only just started playing golf, being a teenager I was more involved in footy and such, I found Samford to be the perfect place to begin my golfing career. There are very small crowds and you can be lucky enough to have almost the entire course to yourself. I found the elevated tees on several of the holes to be most enjoyable, giving great views of the surroundings as well as being less forgiving for the wayward shot. The greens however let the challenging course down, with the 4th in particular being not much more than dirt with a bit of grass.

The fairways are of average condition, and the hills make it a long walk (as I can't get a cart yet). For a beginner, this course shines with peace and quite and the ability to go at your own pace, without upsetting more proficient golfers.

I found the course in a great location, but was lacking in condition. The greens were sandy and way too fast, and some of the hole did seem to be very clustered. being very much a beginner I found myself hitting onto opposite fairways to regularly.

It does present some great challenges though, and these are particularly rewarding if you pull them off.

i did like teeing off from a high point above the fairway on a number of the holes aswell.

Annoyingly though, the club has pretty severe restrictions on where you can go with the carts, and despite the fact that requires a decent level of fitness to walk around the course, its probably just as efficient as carting it.

For the overall experience I would say that this course is overpriced a little in comparison to some of the other local courses.

The good: Nice location, you can really target the pins as the greens hold well, quiet, easy course to play, good morale amongst members. Jeff Woodland is club pro.

The bad: Overpriced - you can play Keperra for $29 so why the hell would you pay $24 for here? Back 9 has been squeezed into the available space and holes are very close together, fairways and greens can be very patchy.

It looks like a tribute to the 1980s, someone with money thought they'd build a country club, then they ran out of money, then they sold the place and nothing more was done. If Keperra's too busy play here.

A challenging layout. Set amid the lovely scenery of the great Samford Valley (home of the samford stags). A course which has only been tamed by the great John Daley.

Although Samford Golf Club may not be the prettiest to look at, having seen it transform from the once goat track to where it is now, its a massive improvement, and it is always getting better. The Greens are begining to play like greens should, and the fairways have alot more grass than in previous years. As to the comment made about an Internal OB, that is for Player safety more than anything, and That is the sort of comment made by a golfer who cant hit a decent tee shot. there is a good 50M wide fairway there to hit, and it adds an extra element of challenge to the hole. All in All, samford has come in my mind from a goat track, to a good, challanging course.

This course is set in an outback area nd this makes a nice touch to the game. you will really have to keep your ball on the fairway, as there are trees and long grass on each side of most of the fairways. After a game at Samford, i had lost 4 balls. so mind your shot!!!

...unfortunately though, very ordinary golf course. The greens are very shoddy at best and some just border on plain ridiculous - for instance if you find your ball above the pin on the 13th or 15th greens, best of luck in keeping it on the putting surface. The course is extremely hilly and unless you are fairly fit I would suggest you hire a buggy. The course is actually an 18 hole Par 71 as opposed to what's mentioned on this site. It's a shame the course is ordinary, for this is a lovely place to play golf with the mountains as a backdrop. It's also fairly quiet and uncrowded which are some benefits going for it - for these reasons I'll give it a not bad (but not good either)rating.

Having played Samford a few times, I find it a good challenging course. You have to play your shots but can get away with most mistakes. My most recent game was last week. Because of the lack of rain the fairways are fairly dry but you can still play any type of shot from them. The greens are excellent and I would say better than most at the moment. Whether you are a golfer or not, this is a course to try. It is also a very friendly place and you get treated well.

Having not played Samford for about five years I was curious to see if the course had improved in that time. It got off to a good start with the once dirt driveway now sealed and the entrance had a nice new rendered wall annoucing you had arrived. Unfortunatly that's where the improvements had stopped. This course suffers from a lack of water on both fairways and greens. This is not helped when you have to climb up the sides of large hills while your playing. On the back nine you have the unfortunate situation where pararell fairways are OB to one another meaning your tee shots have to be accurate to within 20 in some places. The greens rated nothing better then what you'd find in a suburban backyard. I hit nothing but 4 irons of the tee and as a result did not suffer to much damage. Play this course in the winter or early spring as the Summer heat ruins the experience.
