Scone Golf Club is located in the Upper Hunter Valley of NSW, two and a quarter hours’ drive north of Newcastle on the New England Highway, and four hours from Sydney.
Our friendly club provides golf for members and visitors, and a multitude of attractions in the licensed premises. Sited at White Park and within the town limits, the club has views over the surrounding hills.
Scone Golf Course was established on the present site in 1946, easy walking with generally flat terrain. Eighteen separate tees significantly change the playing aspects of each nine. Bent greens, watered tees and kikuyu fairways are well groomed and lined with three cuts of rough, strategically placed bunkers and mounds to test golfers of all levels. Two gullies run through the course, three man made lakes bring water hazards into play on twelve of the holes. The course is also home to various birdlife and has picturesque views of the surrounding hills and mountains. Neat dress code. Soft spikes required. Carts available.

Measured 3018m Par 36 with two Par 3s ranging from 130-160m, five Par 4s ranging from 320-390m and 2 Par 5s ranging from 495-505m. I was pleasantly surprised with at the level of maintenance for a course with 1 full time green keeper. I expected a country dry-bed, but looked very green and fairways were nicely trimmed, greens were running true, but teebeds were not so great with many bumpy lies and dirt patches.
Best holes are the opening 495m Par 5 with slight right bend with water left of green and 2 bunkers protecting the sides. The 390m 3rd is a good test for a par 4, with gully 250m from tee, and green very close to OOB on the right, with bunkers on the left. The 505m Par 5 6th hole is another tester with sharp dogleg right around the horse running track, with bunker on the right. Closing 3 holes are relatively easy with no hazards worthy of mention.
Played here 14/4/06 and paid $10, good value for a course I may frequent again.
