Played there over the weekend, not only was I disappointed with the state of the course, I was left with a nice big dent in my front quarter panel due to having poorly protected carpark from the driving range (only 1/3 had fencing)
There were beer cans everywhere, overfilled bins and cans in the middle of the course, even on greens.
It was extremely boggy, muddy, smelly and noisy from the drunk people that seem to go have a game of "s**t f**k" as they would call it.

played there on the weekend 20-8-11
what an improvement this course has had in the few years ive been playing there. the grass is good, it was a it boggy, but it has been raining a fair bit. the greens have massively improved and are consistent. good beginners course.
PROS
- cheap
- easy course to hone skills
Cons
- still some "different" types of players

I have long been a fan of the driving range at Skye public golf course, whilst the course itself has always been a bit hit and miss the driving range has always remained the same, well hallelujah the miss is gone and the hit is back! the last 6 months have seen a great transformation, with 3 Tees pushed back, the stupidly long rough cut to a reasonable level, the greens are receptive and the patrons are treating it with a bit of respect, do yourself a favour if you are looking for a quick relaxing nine have a look at Skye it is not Royal Melbourne but then it was never meant to be.
PROS
- Friendly staff, Ever improving course

This is a decent course for those who are truly beginning at golf. Given the location of the course, there is always a risk of bogany elements, but that isn’t really any fault of the course or the management there.
That said, if you are going to start your golfing (and really start) then you are best to get a lesson with Dan there, or if you’re young he runs a clinic on Sunday Mornings for kids starting up. The 9 hole course is really there for the people who have had a few lessons from Dan and have a few hits on the range and want to try a game of golf.
I went to Dan’s Junior clinics about 15 years ago now (!), and I still go back for the odd touch up lesson now and then (I play off 2)

Played there for the first time in early May, and after reading the reviews, was pleasantly surprised. It’s in pretty good nick now – maybe the rain has helped green up the fairways and greens (even if it has left the walk around a bit muddy). Only a shortish course, but it’s fine for a quick 9 and for a beginner like me. Dan, the pro is great. You can always get a hit off at the driving range, and the putting green is good too.

in a word shit!..sorry but even as a beginners track its rubbish. you know its going to be bad when you goto the bin and its full of v.b or cougar cans!….i took my mate there for his first ever game of golf and even he was disgusted
fo ra beginner goto cheslea public golf course..(royal edi) as it known…at least they have grass on the fairways
unless they put some worl into this course it will always be houseing estate waithing to happen
the sad thing is once upon time it was kinda nice to play it
PROS
- seeing it in your rearview mirror as you leave
- finishing your round and heading to the car
Cons
- playing amongst beer cans and bourbon bottles
- poor fairways.if you can call them that

i think its a great course for beginners like me.. i dont usually see many ‘hoons’ only because ive played there once.. nice tees half dead greens.. a strange drop par3 and a hilly par 4 with a blind shot off the tee.. all the holes challenge me but you can alway think of a way to get a nice shot to green in 2.. one water hazard near tee of 1st hole and no bunkers.. mix of straight and cornering courses.. hole 8 and 9 your best off drawing or fading then a shot to green with 6 iron..

My wife and I played here recently, and we won’t be bothered going back. Although the course is nice and easy for beginners (my Mrs.), it has been taken over by bogans. We played on a Saturday afternoon, and the queue at the first tee was appalling. Not only were there 8 groups waiting to tee off, but half of them were slurping cans of bourbon and coke – and obviously not their first for the day.
When on the course, we were subjected to a group of half a dozen drunken hoons, screaming and yelling, wearing thongs, two sets of clubs between the six of them. The group behind us, a lady and her daughter, were in fear of their safety.
Perhaps we were just unlucky on the day, but we won’t be back. I hope this course is successful though, as it might keep the hoons off other courses.

this course is a great "hackers" course or a great course for a beginner. the largest hole on the course is only 300metres which is the first hole. there is one water hazrard on the right hand side of the first hole. this course was also a good confidence booster for myself has i had 4 over par. it is a very relaxed course with hardly any people on there breathing up ure backside. i really enjoyed playing there and the cheap beer afterwards

I am only new to the sport of golf but found this course an easy and welcoming start to playing a short 9-hole round of golf on.
The fairways and greens are in good condition considering it is a public course, there are no bunkers anywhere on the course yet there are only two water hazards, the only concern being on the 1st hole to the right of the fairway.
Some of the tees are elevated above the fairway/green which gives you a sense of a bad hit still going a considerable distance, however on some holes it is difficult to see the group ahead, dangerous in some areas!
Overall a course I enjoyed, only my 4th round of golf and I had a 61. Also beware on the steep inclines of some holes that you do not loose your sand bucket to replace divots like I did :-)
Will be going back to the course again soon, gives the average 'hacker' some confidence and room for error, highly recommend the course to any beginner out there.

For a relaxing social game which is suited for beginners...this is a definite starters course.
The 4th begins with a hit over a blind hill...make sure you use the mirror on top of the safety cyclone fence to be able to see if it's clear over the rise in front.
Watch the cows on the 5th and 6th. Cheap beer at the clubhouse.

I don't know if there is a better course for a beginner to start at. 7 short par 4's and 2 par 3's make for a relaxing stroll. For a 'hackers' course, the greens and fairways are in incredibly good condition and the locals are justifiably proud of the work their ground staff puts in. Cheap rounds are the order of the day and a nice cold beer awaits in the 'Clubhouse' A purist would vomit all over his Pings if he were made to play here all his life but for a hit and giggle, a stroll with the kids or your partner, nine real quick holes after work or just a bit of fun, Skye's the venue you are looking for.

I recently started using the driving range. I am very impressed. Great for beginners to Pros. They are well maintained. Friendly staff. I highly recommend the driving range. There is also a place to practice putts and chipping. I haven’t used the course though.
