Played Sunday afternoon (16.6.2013) first time here. Pro shop staff – excellent; facilities – excellent; food/drinks cart – regular; course – a bit wet but pretty good considering the rain recently; greens – reasonably true. An enjoyable round that ended in twilight under the floodlights due to a very slow 4 ball ahead who simply didnt understand or want to follow etiquette and let us through. Only real complaint would be the lack of a marshall who could have helped and enforced our play through with the slow group. A good day in good surroundings, good facilities. Will play more regularly here.

Wet. Lots of water on the fairways (in addition to the lots of water off the fairways) and clearly takes a long time to drain. But in good condition otherwise, with an interesting layout (challenging for us high handicappers without being too hard) and great value at $39 including a cart (through iseekgolf).

Highly recommended. We had a paid booking for 4 players but at the last minute 2 of our group pulled out and could not play on the day. Friendly Pro Shop staff gave us two vouchers valid for 12 months without us even having to ask. Course was a little damp from a week of rain but was holding up ok. Greens were in perfect condition. As a group of two we played fairly quickly and groups ahead were polite and thoughtful and called us through. A beer and excellent feed in the bar with a view over the 18th rounded out a perfect day. Will be back to use the two spare vouchers very soon.

Emerald Lakes was in reasonably good condition Sunday 2 June when we played there in spite of the rain that had been around the previous couple of days. The main issue was with most of the bunkers being filled with water. Interesting course, with the front 9 featuring what felt like 4 par 5s. There are a number of shortish par 5s, which I didn’t really take advantage of. As you’d expect there are also a number of par 3s as well to balance this out. The course itself is well designed and the strategic shaping of the holes forces you to play smart rather than bomb every fairway in sight. An easy course to walk and I think a real treat to play in the winter here in Queensland

As far as the course it was good, always over rated as far as I am concerned, it’s popular because if it’s location and night golf and tennis courts etc. As a golf course there are much better courses and cheaper and better condition. My friend and I were held up by 2 morons which didn’t know anything about golf edicates and never asked us to go through, I wanted to call the pro shop so many times to get the dammn marshall to come and explain to them, they could have let us through from the 4th hole but we were having such lomng breaks between shots that you loose all your rythem and motivation. I wish we ask them to let us through, the girl was hitting the ball 20*50meteres at best however waiting 150-200m for the green to be cleared. It was horrible, the only reason I played there was price $28 with a cart.

Play this course quite regularly & is always in good shape.

A few wet areas but this was probably the first dry week since January so course still in good condition considering.

Did not notice any issues with the grass on greens as mentioned previously. The speed on all greens was consistent & quite fast, however there was no issue in holding the green on iron approach shots as previously mentioned here.

Course seemed heavily booked which is getting to be a common issue that should be fixed. There was a group of 5 – the staff were aware as there was a Marshall on the 1st tee. This caused huge delays for the 3 groups of 2 following. I don’t have any dramas with allowing a bigger group for a social round, but why boom them in front of 3 small groups??

Lastly – 2 extremely rude "gentleman" behind me who I believe were members. I was waiting 10 mins on tees just as they were, but when there are 3 groups ahead there is nothing that can be done. Hitting balls up whole I am still on the fairway waiting for the green to clear & trying to force me to tee off before the fairway is clear will not achieve anything. Nor will smart ass remarks from behind whole sitting in their buggy. Some people really need to pull their heads in – holding membership does not entitle you to be an a*******.

Played 8 April. Thought I got a good deal for $28 with cart . Was a little disappointed as the course was very wet. Not the clubs fault obviously, however, when your hitting on the fairway and getting sprayed with mud in your follow through it doesn’t make it that enjoyable. The greens were like lightning and didn’t combine well with the wet fairways. We Often found that bump and run shot would pull up before the green due to the soggy nature of the course, however, if you went at the green the ball would just fly through the back. A lot of clumpy grass around the green making it hard to putt from the fringe also.

Course is looking great, taking into consideration the recent wet weather. Good to see the course as popular as ever with a great clubhouse and meals to boot.

21. MayMay | Rated | 08 Apr 2013 | Add A Review

Good course, forgiving layout except for one or two holes. Great place to go for a social round. The day I went there were no hold ups on the tee’s although it seems to be a common theme in the other reviews below. Would have to admit to never having seen a course marshal at any stage ? Probably the most disappointing aspect were the greens, while they were lightning quick the day I played, there was a lot of patches of rough grass growing through on a lot of greens. I quite often saw fairly big deviations in some of my puts because of this. Overall though was a good day, staff were friendly, perhaps a little disorganised, but always helpful. If I was to rate the course on value for money I’d say maybe a tiny bit overpriced for what I got. But only just.

Played on Wednesday afternoon. Got through 18holes with only one rain delay. Didn’t seem too busy, first 9 holes played through without waiting, second 9 was slower. Carts very slow, I think it would be quicker to walk. Fairways green and not too many puddles, a couple of bunkers were like water holes, greens good although some needed a good rake to clear the debris off. Considering recent weather the course was holding up well. Good value for money!

Played a Wednesday morning. Way too many people on the course. 15 minute wait at each hole. Ended up skipping 2 of the 9 holes so we could get through in reasonable time. Won’t play at a peak time again.

26. wedgeman | Rated | 25 Feb 2013 | Add A Review

Emerald Lakes is a shortish par 72 layout with water in play on about half the course, forgiving faiways and plenty of bunkered greens to test your short game. The recent rain has kept the course quite lush, but has probably been the reason for a few patchy greens and unmowed fairways. Playing a ’resort’ style course I was suprised there weren’t a few more fairway bunkers or tight doglegs to counter some of the shorter holes. Driver is encouraged on all par 4’s and 5’s and only the worst hit tee shot will be punished. Although the layout has its fair share of challenges, I just expected a few more interesting ’risk verse reward’ tee shots… The night golf aspect is quite a novelty and well worth a hit but don’t expect to fine tune your game out there. Balls are tricky to spot and at times, even a reasonable tee shot can test your patience when looking for your ball. Good specials keep this place pretty popular and I’m sure once it dries out a little, the course will be maintained to the standard it deserves.

Played on 9/02/13. Staff were friendly and the course was in good condition considering the recent wet weather. The BIG drawback was the rate of play. It took 2 & 1/2 hours to play the front 9. Up to 3 groups at each tee box every time. I had paid for 18 but left after 9 holes because I couldn’t put up with the frustration. It ruined what could have been an enjoyable afternoon of golf. I won’t be returning.

Great course for the price paid and the course was in great condition. Agree with comments regarding course map as several holes had sharp dog legs and maps showing distance markers would assist better club choice. Again, price was fantastic for round and cart and staff were friendly as well as other groups out on the course. Interestingly the cart appeared to be speed limited and was frustratingly slow. Not a major thing, just noted by group as soon as we headed down the first. A great course full stop – highly recommended.

Agree totally with last comment, rate of play too slow. 5 and a half hours to complete 18 holes just to long extremely frustrating. Nice enough course but will not be playing here again unless management does something about the congestion around the course and the "Non Golfers" two guys to one set of clubs….two or three tee shots….hacking up the fairway with no sand in sight…..tramping through bunkers without even thinking about using the rakes.WHERE ARE THE MARSHALLS !!!!!!

Me and a mate played yesterday. Although booked at 10.33 it was after 11.00 pm before we were teeing off after being redirected to the 10th tee from the first.Had we not enquired at the Pro Shop we would have been left waiting on the first tee for who knows how long!We followed a field of Ladies and Vets for the back nine.It took just under 3 hours to complete! The 3 women in front were slow and seemed nonchalent that there were at least 3 groups behind them. The greens were uncut and unbelievably slow. 5 minute delays between shots just doesnt do it for me. Between the slow women and the retardent tee times and molasses consistent greens my experience was severely tainted and my mate and I both agreed we would not return to Emerald Lakes for Golf.

Course played ok considering renovations were done about a month ago. Greens were slower than normal but over all not too bad.Booked on-line with I-seek & saved approx the price of the cart. Played after 1 pm & it was $36 with cart on line, or $35 paying at the pro shop with no cart. Did have some difficulties doing my on-line booking but I called I-seek & they got my booking & payment done in a couple of mins.I don’t mind this course but honestly I would recommend another month for it to recover for it to be worthwhile. At this time I do not think full price is reasonable ( I think it’s $51.00 ? )

A very disappointing day because of 30 minute tee delay, then pathetically slow play. 3 groups waiting to tee-up on all first 9 holes. First 9 holes took 2 hrs 40 min. Second 9 incomplete due to darkness – booked tee time was 1:28. Poor. value!
Course management should have bigger tee-off gaps AND marshals should be on course moving people along.
That said, the course was in good condition and is fun to play.

I had not played her for a couple of years so I was looking forward to the game. Unfortunatly the course was in poor condition and the greens were shocking with a lot of sand and they had not been mowed recently so were very slow and bumpy. To make matters worse hada group of players in frong that held us up at every hole and did not have the nouse to let us play through, not a course marshall in sight. Having played soem of the other courses for the same price this was not worth it.

Sept 30. Emerald Lakes was quiet due to the football Grand Final. The course was was a touch less impressive than usual, possibly due to the big downpours and now the dry spell. I’ll say it was not at it’s best, though the round was still very enjoyable.

If my golf had been better it would have been an extremely enjoyable experience! Seriously though Emerald Lakes was in excellent condition, the fairways were’spongy’ giving good lies practically all the time. My playing partners an I have played there many times and we like the course very much. It is also in a lovely area and the surroundings are very pleasing to the eye. Finally we had a clear round – no hold-ups – which I have to say is not always the case there. The pro/manager was very friendly too.

Played on Sunday Sept 9. The course is beautiful, well kept fairways greens very fast, enough water hazards to keep you on your toes but not too much dense undergrowth alongside the fairways. The only down side is the Tee Off times, they definitely try and put too many groups in so we spent way too much time waiting at the tee.

The only dampened was the slow play. We started right behind the comp because we thought it would move along pretty smartly but as it turned out we waited on every hole and sometimes more than once. The whole game took us five hours which is a bit long for two players. I noticed the group two ahead of us had lost at least two holes on the field.

We (4 ppl) played 9 holes of golf behind a group of six players,as we were the second playing group behind we could not play though as there was a group inbetween us of only 2, the rules of the course clearly state only groups of four are allowed. This turned the day very sour as we had booked 18 holes and after 3 1/2 hours of watching 6 players drinking and joking about we left the course. Therefore we paid in excess of $200.00 for nine holes!

Have played a number of times in the last couple of years. An enjoyable layout and normally in good nick.
Course needs to be marshalled better. On Friday August 3 we were behind a very slow group of beginners in front. Three guys sharing only 2 sets of clubs. At the same time we were followed from hole 3 to 8 by the mowerman going up and down the fairways. The continous dodging and waiting was most annoying. Should mow against the run of play so the inconvenience is spread.

Played Emeralds Lakes 14.07.12 after about a week of rain..wasnt a soul in front of us nor behind us. Kept saying to my playing partner "where else would ya want to be huh"…was absolutely perfect. Greens were very receptive after all the rain…didnt like the skyline that was over us so both of us decided to finish the 11th hole then play the 18th back to the clubhouse. Had to walk the course { too wet for buggies } but we teed off at 2.30pm so we were back in the clubhouse by 5pm..a cold liquid refreshment was in order, might have rained over a week but the humidity was way up there. After an executive decision was made with careful deliberation between my playing partner and myself we came to the conclusion that this day could end no better than having the family meet us for dinner at the clubhouse ( major brownie points were awarded to the thoughtful husbands…wink wink nudge nudge ). The perfect day???..I’ll let you decide..thanks Emerald lakes and thank you to the chef.

PROS

  • had the course to ourselves

Well it started raining heavily before tee off. The pro shop would not give us a rain check and said to contact Iseek golf but we were wasting our time as, a refund is only given if the course is closed. So we played one hole and then gave up as the rain continued to pour down. Such a shame as we play at Emerald Lakes on a regular basis. Might try another course or two next time.

We have played Emerald Lakes on a regular basis for the last two years. I have to say that last Sundays experience was the worst we have had on this course. Firstly, they had pennants on, which they had known about for some time, but that did’nt stop them with unbelievable overbookings. which resulted in the slowest round we have ever had there. We were ready to quit at the 9th hole but persevered. It will be a long time before we go back to this course, at least till we hear that they get their act back together.

Had a slow round,5 hrs to play! the course was very busy which was unfortunate as I do like the golf course lay out. It seemed reasonably well maintained but other hackers disrespected it which was a shame, would play it again on a week day though rather than a Sunday.

PROS

  • Good value for money with the cart included in the cost

Cons

  • Course seemed over played, plug marks in greens, lots of divots on the fairways, obvious that other golfers don't understand the etiquette of golf

Nice course, challenging layout, could do with having some sand in the bunkers, greens and fairways in excellent condition. Will play again.

Took six and a half hours to complete 18 holes due to poor course management, or rather a total overbooking of players. The course itself is decent, but it really took the enjoyment out of the game waiting 5-10 mins at every tee and then having people hitting up behind us constantly as everyone on course was clearly frustrated. As I said, a decent course if you are prepared to take the whole day to finish your game. Won’t be playing here again until the course is managed correctly.

Nice day, course in good condition, played on a Sunday and they seem to have let anyone on before our booked tee time 5 hrs for a two to play is too long. Two groups in front letting their kids play. Last three holes in the dark, lucky they have lights.

The course is in good condition and there are plenty of good holes that can test all abilities. Placement is the key to a decent score around here.

Played on a Wednesday morning which seems to be Ladies day, we teed off at 11:00am and although the first 9 was a little slow, we still got around in 4hrs.

Check out the great facilities at the 19th!

I live on the Gold Coast and use iSeek often. Emerald can be slow sometimes with some punters that dont really know what theyre doing taking a million pre-swing and post-swing practice shots. However yesterday was fantastic! Course is in pretty good condition at the moment. Love the 2nd hole, wide open par 5. You can spank it off the tee without repercussions for a stray. Enjoy.

Fairway were consistantly groomed which helps our game.all staff were welcoming and visitor friendly. Great to be able to hit a few balls at the adjoining driving range before tee off to warm up. This time we dined for lunch and found the food very enjoyable. Each staff member we delt with were very polite and professional.we will definately return next time we visit the area. Playing for the first time in 3 years, this was a great reintroduction to the game. The course is well maintained, although some greens were extremely sandy. The recent weather explains that perhaps. The course was not overly challenging, so a great beginner / intermediate level. There was a few groups slowing us down, but the food cart and course manager ensured we eventually moved through. Great value for money however

Course in not to bad condition. The going was slow and some people pushed in at tee off unfortunately. Pro shop in an old trailer not a good look. Once cleared of the slow group got away and played at a good pace. Course has matured a lot since last played and is looking a lot better. Ended up finishing round in the dark with the floodlights on. Wasn’t to bad all considering. Course definantly has improved and heading into the right direction.

Definitely over rated at 3.5 stars – your typical flat boring Gold Coast Course. Yes it had been flooded a few days earlier but the course appearance except for the greens is ordinary. Reminded me of Banora Point in many ways and should probably be 2.5 or maybe 3 stars.

Given the recent heavy rain I was surprised how well Emerald Lakes was looking. Clearly the grounds staff have been working flat out to get everything back under control. The course looked great and greens were fast. No complaints at all. We are playing there again today. Teeing off in the mid morning before the comp was the way to go with only a short hold up late into the back nine and we had no one on our tail for the full 18.

Just played on 20/1/12. The course is very fine, even with a few damp patches from all the rain. I booked on line as I normally do, got there with 1/2 hr+ to spare (12.30) for a 1pm T time. The man said come back in 15min and he’ll give me the cart. 15min later, I got the cart, but was told not to start before 1pm as scheduled. After loading up and getting to the 1st T, someone was teeing off! I asked if they had booked for a 1pm or before and they said no, it was after 1pm, but was told to go and play straight away. This meant there are 2 blokes infront of us when we definitely booked to be first off at 1pm. This is VERY rude and disappointing. However, I do no think the guys at the front desk really give a damn. Other than this, Emerald Lakes is a nice course. BTW The Pro shop is in a temporary shed and not where it normally is.

This is the second time I have played this course and on both occasions I have been dissapointed. The main reason is that it took 5 hours to play a round of 18 holes.

We completely recognised that it the holiday season and the course was fully booked, but when you dont see a course marshall for the entire round on a day the course is booked and there are two groups waiting to tee off on each hole you will end up becoming frustrated like we did.

They didn’t so much break as they just drifted across the hole. Got paired with some great playing partners who told us about the club house meals, the best steak sandwich! All up great value with iseek and would go back just for another steak sandwich! Thoroughly enjoyed the course and the facilities!

I had booked in for a round, but the weather was looking bad. The Pro Shop said I was more than welcome to go out and see how far I get, then if it rains I can do the rest of the holes another day.
I made it to the 8th! And the Pro Shop were true to their word, so I have booked up for next week.
The course itself was great. The fairways were nice and short, even the rough was no more than an inch long. The greens were fantastic and smooth.
The holes are challenging in a good way, but not too difficult. Maybe I was having a good day!
I certainly would play there again as hopefully the weather will let me play the whole course in one day!!

Course was in good nick, plenty of water to test you, a bit different to the "lake carrara" days. Had a fourth who unfortunately couldn’t make it due to illness and the club provided a raincheck which we appreciated. We had a good day on the course and stayed on at the clubhouse for dinner afterwards which was also good value. If only the pokies paid out occassionally !!

On holiday from N.Z. Lovely course to play and facilities excellent. The only negative was the ignorant group ahead of us who had no idea about rules regarding slow play. At one point we waited two or three minutes while one player stood in the middle of the fairway talking on his mobile. We also experienced one couple trying to jump in at the 17th tee. Although they didn’t understand English they got the message that they weren’t going to do this.

The course was in reasonable condition the greens especially were good and true. The play was rather slow but not enough to spoil our day. The pro shop was a bit disorganised, only 1 attendant with 8 or 9 people queuing to be served.

I am a resident on the Coast and it’s very very sad and unfortunate that you hear the course was slow due to slow play and groups not following the etiquets of golf. The golf courses marshalls or whoever need to get of their asses and move the slow people up. a round of 18 should take no more than 4 hours. Otherwise you moght as well stay home. It turns me off completley about joing any of the public courses, when they have such shitty reputation for slow play, it’s all about making money to make up for the slow days and months before and coming up. The hell with the public who come out to play golf, no one gives a shit about them, It’s very pathetic actually.

Same as previous reviews. Course extremely busy, this was a Tuesday aswell, normally a quiet day for golf courses. Turned up to the course for a 2pm hit off only to see 10 players lining up at the 10th hole, and the front nine way to crowded. Didn’t even bother playing, had a hit at the range and went home. So disappointing, won’t be going back.

198. Hackandslash | Rated | 08 Aug 2011 | Add A Review

Played here yesterday 7/8/11 and like many of the recent reviews it was extremely busy with a fair few long delays. This has come about because the course used to be known as Carrara and was recognised as the only decent public course on the Gold Coast. They course itself has improved out of site with an impressive layout with some challenging pin placements with many bunkers located at the front of the greens with not much behind them so distance control on the approach shots is key.

Overall it has improved significantly but it will always be busy as it is still very affordable

way to many people on course. there were up to 3 groups at least on every hole. member said that it is always busy fridays. lucky we had carts otherwise we would have been sitting on the grass waiting at every shot. tee’d off at 1150am, walked off after 4 1/2 hours and only playing 13 holes. will only play this course in a charity day if ever again

Overall, the course is short yet testing, greens will hold and roll true, i give it a 7 1/2 for overall price and quality.

I have played Emerald Lakes several times in the last few weeks and enjoyed the course each time as the pin placements were different each time and quite challenging. The course is very attractive with the water alongside all but two fairways but plenty of width for driving.
The fairways and greens are in very good condition, only one green has a problem for the green-keepers as it is covered in shade for much of the day. Late afternoon sun on three holes made it difficult for me to see the driven ball. My favourite Gold Coast course.

I enjoyed this course being a higher handicapper, has some tough holes where luck helps and some easy holes which can play harder than they look. The greens were fast and fun to putt on, the fairways a little wet from the months of rain but played well. All in all a great day had buy all and will return. Recommend to any golfer, but for us high b graders and c graders it is a great resort style course, not too long and the club facilities and staff are above par, good buffet breakfast in the morning and a Jazz band in the afternoon. They have TAB facilities and a great sports bar.

Golf course is in a good condition, excellent architecture of a field, well-groomed fairways, fast greens. Small remarks on sandy bunkers (repair and in some there was a water after a rain), but on the general background barely noticable. I like it very much it, I would like to play once more before leaving Australia.

Not overly challenging, but a nice leisurely round of golf. Paired up with a threesome of members who subsequently invited me to play with them in their regular Sat. game which I gladly excepted. As an american visitor I found the greens in excellent condition and the fairways acceptable given the amount of rain the fellows described. I’m looking forward to my next round there.

Great condition. Short PAR 5’s make for plenty of opportunites. Only trouble was the way groups tend to back up – very slow play. 12:39 tee time saw us finsh the 18th under lights with a group of 3 that all broke 85. Need a marshall!!!!

219. pracrocap | Rated | 07 May 2011 | Add A Review

Course in great condition but got really annoyed at having a groundsman following us for at least 6 holes cutting the Tee blocks whilst we were teeing off. Really put us off our game especially as he would not turn off the engine whilst we teed off. The group behind us also suffererd the same problem and were equally annoyed.

Needs a Marshall on course to speed up play as we had a group of 4 in front who would not let us through despite having plenty of opportunity whilst they were looking for their balls in the woods etc.

Would like to see better access off the greens onto the path as often very bumpy.

Eventually we enjoyed the back 9 free of noise but had to jump a hole to get around the slow ignorant group in front.

Nice course. Great clubhouse. But the last two times I played there had to wait 10 minutes at each tee. It was ridiculous – there were 3 and sometimes 4 groups waiting to tee off for the entire round. Only got through 15 holes in 4 hours 15 minutes and had had enough. Packed up and left. Won’t be back.

The club needs to introduce a Marshall system. Told in the Pro shop that there was nobody ’for a long time’ behind us we had people right up us on the first hole! At the second the woman asked if they could go through. When pointed out there were people in front of us, people in front of them, and them etc she got all huffy. That did not stop them trying to set a new speed record for the course. Uncomfortable golf.

We timed our game at Emerald Lakes perfectly. It had rained all morning, but eased off for our 1.30pm tee off. The course was empty so we made it through in record time – didn’t wait even once to hit off. The recent rains have left the course in great condition. Greens and fairways are well kept with all bunkers in play. The rough off the fairways was a bit deep in places which was frustrating if you strayed even a few inches. We walked the course for $30 which is unbeatable value given the quality of set up and speed of play. Oh, and it was happy hour in the bar when we came in.

It was incredible to play the course in such wonderful condition after the drenching it has rcieved. The greens were the best I’ve seen them, fairways carpet like and the rough was deep, which was a great challenge.the place of play was also impressive, the Marshall was visible and all groups were keeping great pace. The fairways were pretty decent, however the rough was very difficult to find your ball in. Also, after been told to be in a group of four (which was no drama) groups of two behind us were hitting right up on us and then insisting that we let them play through. Not very good, particularly one older couple who albeit were playing quick, only because they were playing some form of speed golf and hitting the ball 30metres each shot and racing after the ball….i suspect they were locals trying to get a sub 3 hour game.

All in all the course is good for social golfers alike, with some challenging aspects.

I played this course with a mate on a weekday and it was quite busy. The proshop was friendly enough and we proceeded to tee off behind a group of 5!! Not a major problem, we were on carts so it’s okay. The course was actually in great nick and we had a great time playing. We got called in at the 13th due to storms and lightning and I realised my nike 60 degree wedge was left in the bunkers on the 11th and after a week of reporting it no one has handed in. It still makes me sick to date that someone has found it on the course and decided to keep it.

Unfortunately my experience with this course is not so good, playing Sundays I would definately suggest any other day, they seem to let any would be chopper wearing anything (teeshirts) play there, the slowest round you would ever want to experience group of 5 behind and beginners in front would not let us through just a waste of money and a Sunday morning the most frustrating game I have ever played..waiting ..waiting.. no on course marshall to move these hackers along.. ball be hit up on us….I couldn’t believe that this course charges an entry fee of $1500…why? its not like its exclusive when you see the hackers and choppers out there playing, would most definately never paly there again after going through this twice…

Played Sun 15th Nov.
Quick warm up with 80pills on the driving range always helps.
Fairways: Sweet as. Bit of bounce in the pitch too which is what you want.
Rough: Pays to land on the fairways obviously, however could still spot your ball most of the time when off target. Playable with minimal medicine required unless you bury it in the forrest.
Greens: Top condition = fast for most of the day (but not as fast a North Lakes ’glass’). Lines ran true and broke where you expected them to. (Remember: ain’t no turn on Nudgee Sth greens)
Bunkers: only landed in one and out in one shot – not an issue if you know your clubs/ the hole layout.
Water: just know where it is to hit over it and then forget it’s there & you’ll be fine. (’there is no spoon’- Matrix).
Drinks kart readily available which is always important during warm weather. Three cheers to the young lass on D.K.D. (Drinks Kart Duty) for her frequent support in this area.
Afterwards our group kickbacked for a quick feed in the clubhouse. Can I recommend the steak sandwich n fries – hit the spot. (Note: Chicken parma fans will also be impressed).
p.s. Worth a mention if the day goes longer than planned. Played the back nine here previously under lights which was different and avoids the heat of the day. Forces you to focus more on each shot. Rest assured you can still locate a standard white pill in the normal rough under the floodlights. C’mon, everyone needs an extra challenge every now and again.
In Summary: If you can’t enjoy you yourself at this course, then you’d better go put your clubs on e*bay.

PROS

  • Great set up and everything you need for an enjoyable round. Get amongst it!

Cons

  • birdie ops that turn into bogeys...(sif it's the player's fault)

Whilst its a nice course shame the management is off track, sadly in the name of constant greed they allow far to many players on creating a complete annoying game, waiting to tee-off at every hole.
The challenges on the course are great and the fairways are wide enough to keep you out of to much trouble, and the Lights are handy with the tee-off delays.

On a busy Sunday the Tee times were really well organised, we didn’t wait on any tees and only once felt a little pressure from the group behind us. The greens were first class with the ball always running true. The fairways are excellent, with interesting water hazards and well placed bunkers. I loved the wide range of birdlife on the course. I’ll certainly be returning to play as often as I can.

I palyed with my wife in Sep. 2010 and we enjoyed very much. The course is short (less than 6,000m) but requires a accurate and solid shots to avoid water hazards. Bring many balls. The green was in good condition. Nice course for resort golf at the reasonable fee, convenient location (15 mins drive from surfers paladise.)

Had a good hit at Emerald Lakes yesterday. Tee times filled up really quickly as when I booked (2 days before) there was only one other pair booked and when we hit off the groups were back to back. Very forgiving little course. Could have done with a marshall to move some of the slow groups on as it took us just over 4.5 hrs which is way too long for such a short course.

The course is in quite nice condition at the moment. The majority of greens are excellent. I’d suggest this is a good challenge for middle handicappers.

I had anticipated joining this course and still am, I played Sunday in the drizzle the course was great green were fantastic some challenging holes but overall good for all handicap golfers, played a round in a little over 3 hours as some slower groups let us through. I like it and will book next week, the deal on green fees through i-seek was great.

We played Thurs 26th Aug with a 1.00pm tee off and had a great time. Pro shop was helpful and relaxed which is always a good way to start. The course was in great condition and all the boys had a fun time. Pace was good and we with the afternoon tee of we played the last couple of holes under lights which added another dimention to the round. We’ll be back to play again.

Nice little course. Gives you a chance for a good score if you are not a big hitter.
Played on Monday, August 30. The only irritant was that the first 9 holes took over 2 1/2 hours due to slow play. I never saw a marshall which could have helped to move the culprits along.

Some of the best greens around. If you hit straight and stay on the fairways you should have a great game. Fairways are easy to hit off. Keep away from the water. The day we visited was busy so took us 4 1/2 hours to finish 18 holes. Staff are friendly. Plenty of parking. Will visit again.

Played here yesterday and the course as always was in great confition. The greens were not as fast as I am used to here but were still in great nick.
Have always really enjoyed this course but was a bit disappointed yesterday as our two ball ended up being stuck behind a three ball who were not only slow but disrespectful of the course (drove cart on the greens)
Will be back here no doubt and hope next time we are playing behind those with a better appreciation of golf etiquette and will let us through.

Me & my golf partner vowed not to play Emerald Lakes again but gave it another go. Same old story …15 – 20 min wait at first tee and then 10-15 mins at the rest of the holes. Obviously the course is being overbooked. Do not have this problem at Parkwood, Colonial, Robina Woods or Royal Pines.

It seems as though Emerald Lakes cannot learn from previous comments. We had to wait on every shot and it tok us 1.2hrs to play 3 holes. Rand pro shop to get a marshall and was told they are short staffed. Spoke with the drink carts lady and she told us that is is always like this on social days. Had players jumping from hole to hole trying to get ahead which didn’t help. Sorry Emerald cannot recommend your course due to slow play and organisation. Staff in Proshop not really interested in our comments. Help yourselves and get it sorted.
We also gave up and went home early – frustrated. Barry

Full field for Easter Monday, 4 ball pace 4 hrs 35mins with 09:50 tee time. iseek $32 w/cart. Good enough layout with some sneaky tough holes. Tee boxes tired with thin grass, divots and some not level. Fairways thin to lush, dry and running; some bare spots too. Rough was lush enough and well maintained/watered. Sand in good shape. Greens were good, quite dry, not really holding but putting nicely. Length of the course isn’t a factor here due design. Flat enough and an easy walk.Lots of drinks cart passes but bring lots of water. Very good practice facility and good F&B make it an easy stop to work out a few items in your game. Worth a look.

We enjoyed the course although it could have been better managed. Got to the first tee to find another group booke dfor the same time as us, and no marshall to sort it out. No course marshalls to keep the field moving and pleanty of wanna be pros who thought nothinfg of hitting up on you or taking an impossibly long time on the greens. Hada good day until the last 4 hole where the group in front were drinking more and getting slower. It took us just over an hour (group of 2 ) to play the last 4 holes. Course marshals would be a big help on this course or maybe less players and biggr gap for the tee times.

Considering the amount of rain to hit the Gold Coast recently, the course played beautifully yesterday. Fantastic fairways and pretty quick greens. Love the layout of this course – only problem is 3 par 3’s all around 120m (got over using my 9 iron off the tee). However, fantastic facilities and little delay between shots made the experience a very enjoyable social round with mates. Will continue to return to this great course.

I played here 28/03/10 the course was in great condition. Unfortunately it was very slow. There was a social club a few holes ahead not really worried about who else was on the course but the group in front of us consisted of 2 elderly women who were walking and very good and did not allow us to play through. There was no course marshall anywhere to be seen seen. So if you would like to play a nice slow round on a fairly flat course i would recommend Emerald lakes but if you liked to be challenged by a course i would look else where.

Just as many people have mentioned below… Nice course, in reasonable condition and attractive to play around BUT forget about playing a stress free round!! Took us (2x single figure handicappers in a buggy) 1 hour to play first 3 holes… Rang the pro shop who said they would send out course marshal and said, "dont worry, it’ll get faster after the 9th when our womens comp players are finished…." Shame there were no women in front of us for as far as the eye could see… There were only 2 groups of 4 male players in a "social comp" who steadfastly refused to let anyone through….Still no marshall!! After 4 hours and still only on the 14th we called it quits and left early hoping to salvage some of a miserable day on the course…. What a frustrating day, golf sucks when its played that slowly!!
Won’t be back again, seems there are real course management issues here, and its a shame because the course is quite nice.. Seems no coincidence after you read many other experiences on this forum.. Oh, and the greens are LIGHTNING!! Seriously quick and might annoy people if you dont hit a high ball on your approaches…

We have endured a significant amount of rain over the prior few days. It became light rain only when we played but I was concerned that the greens would not have drained. After every assurance from the pro shop we ventured out with carts (sticking to the roughs only which was convenient as that is where most of my balss ended up). The course was in remarkable condition given the rain and only a little fairway water to deal with.

Played in Feb 2009 and it was a disaster. Tee off at 2:10pm, we actually didnt get onto the course until 3:00pm due to lack of carts, didn’t even get offered a complimentary drink whilst we waited. We then took over 2 hours to play 9 holes with such a massive backlog of golfers. The course was in a pretty bad state after the rain, bunkers full of branches, leaves etc. I walked off after 9 holes…

PROS

We booked to play Emerald Lakes on-line on Feb 16, 2010. We arrived at the pro shop as we saw a dark band of clouds descending over the hinterlands. We consulted the weather bureau radar on the computer screen in the pro shop (handy) and optimistically set off with with the cart to the first tee. We never made it out of the cart. After 20 minutes of furious rain and thunder the course was declared closed. So, back to the car to unload the gear and to arrange a raincheck with the staff (very helpful). We’re back on Thursday to try again. Great staff, top club house, great looking course – can’t wait to actually hit a ball. PS. The guys at the driving range didn’t get a drop on them – good all weather set up.

$35 with a cart is the best value on Gold Coast, course in great condition the greens are true, firm and fast and fairways very good. Only gripe would be that the bunkers need some fresh sand as they are a little dirty and too solid (you have to pick your ball off the top and take no sand as its like concrete). Also for a large course the pro shop has nothing in it.

352. divot66 | Rated | 04 Feb 2010 | Add A Review

This is one of the nicest and user-friendliest places to play at the Gold Coast or indeed anywhere. The proshop can be a bit BUSY at times simply because of it’s popularity, so turning up with 10 mnutes to spare is not a good idea. However, booking on line helps to move the queue along. The course has in the last 10 years, been reaaly well maintained and I would put it equal to Sanctuary Cove (either course) even thoug perhaps SC might be slightly better manicured, especially the Country Club A. Palmer course. Some days can be very slow especially if you have FOUR infront, who are h’capped in their high 20’s insisting on teeing off from the BLUE TEES!!!A marshall will definitely solve this, but often, none is available at the First Tee to lay down the rules.Clubhouse is fantastic.

Great course, well maintained apart from the bunkers which are in need of a decent sand base. Very slow play due to inadequate marshalling of tee times.

This club seems to be the Gold Coasts McDonalds course – get as many punters as you can through in one day.

If you are looking for an enjoyable social game this is not the place to be – very disappointed – will not be back, which is unfortunate because it is a very good course.

Nice course but only played 9 holes as players in front were too slow and too many people on the course. Won’t be back again….the club might want to think about looking after its locals and stop trying to fit in as many tourists/ people on the course at once for the extra money!

The course was over booked. Eight carts were lined in front of us waiting to hit off at 1:21pm, our scheduled hitting off time. Another group told me their hit off time was 1:20, allocated by EL golf club.

After 4hrs on the 16th tee, we cut the game short and went home.

Yes, this course can be overcrowded, you just need to pick the right time to tee off, luck of the draw in some cases, we were lucky, maybe because it was christmas eve. I think this is one of the better courses on the coast, in great condition and great value. Also we finished the 18 in about 4 hours which was great and ended up on the 19th during what must have been happy hour (5pm) cos 4 xxxx golds cost $11.60, You Beauty

Played on 24 Dec 09. The course was in very good condition, given the recent lack of rainfall. The course has some risk/reward holes where water comes into play. Being a public course, there’s always the chance of non-golfers playing a round for something to do; evidenced by the ’7-some’ that we came across. A call to the pro shop brought the Marshall out who dispensed with the group. Overall a good day.

If you are a serious golfer, don’t bother with this place. We booked for 2:24. When we go there, there were no carts available, nor was there any order in which they were issuing carts to players as they came in. Essentially, if you just took a cart you could move up the starting order. No starter marshall to put people in order (even though they had everyones name in the booking register. No order. We ended up teeing off at 3. No marshall on the fairways, so we ended up in a traffic jam. The weather was great, so we managed to make the most of it, but organisationally they were very second rate.

We are locals and regard Emerald Lakes as our ’home’ course. We’ve watched the transitions take place and the growth and quality of the course and clubhouse has, and still is very impressive.
The ’option’ created between iseekgolf and Emerald Lakes is fantastic, as it now gives us the opportunity to play more golf at a great facility for a resonable price.
Taking into consideration the water problems and issues with our ’drought’ the course is always in great condition.
On the down side, and I notice many people have expressed the same view is that a course marshall(s) should be used to improve playing speed!

382. PietPot | Rated | 06 Dec 2009 | Add A Review

Nice golf course and great facilities. A big negative however is the speed of play, had a 6 ball in front of us but ironically they were waiting on each tee for the group in front of them. Surely on a busy course like this you would expect to have a course marshal driving around tending to the field. We started off at 1 and finished at 6:30.

Played this course on the 22nd November 09 and was pleasantly surprised about how well this course was looked after. In saying this i thought parts of the front nine were quite hard but the back 9 was gorgeous. Unfortunately our day was spoilt by 4 teenagers in front of us holding up everyone. They were hitting more than 1 ball each and one wasn’t even wearing shoes. After calling the pro shop and asking them to do something about it i thought things would speed up. Unfortunately this didn’t happen and the round took 4.5hrs, to long for my liking. Other than that course was great, service very good but the absence of a ground marshall was disappointing.

PROS

  • Lovely course layout
  • Course kept in very good condition on most holes

Played mid week at the completion of the seniors competetion and thoroughly enjoyed the round. Fairways and greens were in good condition(a few little patches of crab grass/divots/old hole placements) but enjoyed the extra par 3’s and short par 5’s. Definately a thinking course where you had to place the ball. Very reasonably priced $45.

Played last Sunday 8 nov and while the course is nice and kept in ok condition the fact that they over book, don’t sort out the big groups and certainly don’t have a course marshall with a back bone to speed up play is very disappointing.I suppose that’s why they have night golf, so you can finish your round that day even if you do tee off at 7 am. We had to wait 5 to 10 min’s to play each shot apart from the puts. There were 5 groups behind us doing the same thing. I won’t be going back in a hurry. Boo Emerald Lakes.

I have played here a few times and again the lack of a drinks cart left us a bit thirsty :) when you do the "9 and dine" at night, Tony the marshall will run around and get beers.Anyhow that’s enough about my drinking problem, overall a great day!

Booked thru ISG and got an easy process at a good price – however…
we turned up on the day that just happened to be the first day of the club champs BUT WE WEREN’T TOLD.

Thus, our afternoon tee time started 43minutes late!!! and we were confronted with VERY slow moving groups all through the round. And the two mobs who decided to join up for the 18th (read 8 blokes putting) was the icing on the cake (or should I say candle on the cake – ’cos we needed them).
5+ hours for a pair, in carts. FAIL, sorry, FAIL.

This is a short course (even I reached 2 of the P5s in 2) but it was certainly well presented (had plenty of time to look at it, after all).

Got short treatment from the pro shop (quite possibly linked to it being Club Champs) but overall they were competent and confident.

Greens were good and true, fairways wide and clean.

Great golf course for intermediate players (like us. Also nice scenary and generally very good value for money. However, we had to wait 25-35 minutes per hole to tea off on a Saturday afternoon (just after the club competion). Frequently 5-6 carts in front of us. There was no course marshal and no attemt by the club to spread out the visiting golfers’ tea time after the comp. Really spoiled the hole day for us and we ended up playing only 7 holes and left very frustrated. Unlikely I will return on a Saturday again.

Played Sunday 0930am tee-off. All good til we got to the second and realised that there was a group of 5 in 3 carts with two cartons of beer in front of us, who refused to let us play through. Decided to put up with it for a couple of holes, then saw a course marshal, who tried to help but to no avail. Was expecting it to be slow play, but waiting 20 minutes on each tee is a bit of a joke even on a sunday! Course appeared very dry (it was 32 degrees at the turn) however with a name like Emerald Lakes you would think they would get some decent irrigating overnight. Good layout, loved the 12th, 13th and 14th in particular.
The group in front were loose by the 11th Tee and stole my buddies ball from the middle of the fairway! Course marshall forced them to let us through on the 14th which was good. Overall an enjoyable day except for the D@#kheads in front.

Played in August 2009 from Brisbane. Considering its a coast course it was pretty ordinary. Greens were brown the fairways patchy and bunker just simply rock hard. On top it was backed up from the 4th hole with 3 groups on every hole. Cant have any rhythm going. Very forgiving course its good for beginners to high handicap players. Considering we travelled 100km and payed $51 not worth it. I could have played on an average course in Brisbane and save 2.5hrs of driving. In hindsight i should have researched more and pay an extra $30 and play at Lakelands or other golf courses on the Gold Coast. End of the day it was my own fault. Cheers.

Played Emerald lakes on Sunday the 9th of August and one thing I have to say is that the greens were as hard as a rock, putting was more luck then skill and holding the greens with iron shots was very difficult. On the positive side there was no need to repair pitch marks. I don’t know anything about green keeping but I can only assume that after the course flooded this is what happens when the greens dry out?
Emerald Lakes is not a resort course, somehow I was under the illusion that it was. In fact it’s the Carrara golf course re-branded and spruced up a bit.
The course is nice a little short and quite easy to play.

Very boggy in many spots, although generally good lies in middle of fairways. Greens slow, presumably due to recent prolonged rain. Parkland layout ok., nothing special, except for a few holes that were thinkers. Lots of water – having to decide whether to lay up on a couple of holes. At $51 cart incl., reasonable value, but to be fair, probably didn’t see it at its best. Other facilities good. My mate and I met my wife for lunch in the clubhouse after, nice atmosphere, menu and meals at reasonable prices. Good practice facilities too. All in all, worth a game, and a feed, but avoid it if its been wet. 4 and a bit hours to get around at 9.am. on a Monday.

Played here yesterday, arrived 40 mins early and were told we could go after the 4 on the tee as no-one else before us. We decided to grab a coffee and give them a head start. Teed off after 30mins with another 2players just in front of us. The 2 in front of us caught the 4 players by the 2nd fairway. It took them 30mins to play the 1st hole. It went like that all day. We saw the marshal twice and he gave them a move along (we assume) at the 13th, however by then it was already a 3.5 hour round.

The course was in good nick and all the watery graves I had forgotten about. A nice round but would have been nicer if the play was faster

As visitors from Sydney, found it a very enjoyable course to play. Not long which suited my wife and not too difficult for son who plays irregularly. Seemed in good condition considering all the rain recently. We would play again. Downside was group in front slow and did not call through, bunkers not raked and pitch marks not repaired – perhaps more reminders for non-regular golfers.

I like the course but not when people come there to teach their 6-7 yr old child to play golf in front of numerous groups of avid golf players who did’t really want to be held up by this sort of play!

Great value course and in good condition throughout. Staff, clubhouse and pro shop well above average and the last two times I’ve played here I’ve managed to shoot under my handicap ( which doesn’t happen often ) so I like the place and will be back. Best to leave the driver in the car. The only negative and it’s the same on most courses these days is the slow play. A lot of golfers need to realise that they aren’t playing for a million dollars and really dont need to look at the putt from all four sides on every damn green ( particularly when they’ve already had 6 shots to get there ).

I really enjoy a game of Golf at the Emerald Lake Golf club. The New club house is very nice and the layout of the course is very enjoyable for beginners and Pros. The conditions of the fairway are great, and I would also come back.

Nice flat track for walkers. Not too tough but trouble lurks with water in play on several holes. Well-maintained and in good condition. It’s one of my favourites on the Gold Coast and very reasonably priced.

Really enjoyed the day at the Emerald Lakes course. It is in good condition and the greens and fairways offer the golfer of all levels a real challange. We had a dad and ten year old playing in fron of us and while the lad showed promise the play was real slow and we waited many minutes at every Tee. THe green keepers have a habit of spraying the greens while your still on the green!!! and several greens ahead had the spinklers on and were sodden and pools of water around the greens were negatives

First time at Emerald lakes and enjoyed the round of golf. We were slightly late teeing off so the last couple of holes were played under lights (a new experience). The lights are fine unless you go slightly off the fairway and then you have lost the ball.
The course is challenging enough for me a new player (4 months) but carded a 106. None of our party had played before and the map of the course is too small to give an idea the par 5 hole layout and dog leg etc. We were all aiming our shots into the water when we didn’t even know water was there!!!

The course was in great shape after the rain. The fairways were a little slow, but the greens were the right speed and were running true. As it is a relatively short course (only 5500 metres from the White Tees) it is very inviting and tempting for the long hitters to really let loose – but beware there is plenty of water to trap any wayward hit.

Played 18 holes on a Wed and found the course challenging and in fine condition. Most of the holes have got a challenging aspect, be it a strategically placed bunker, water hazard or dog leg turn.

This is my third time here and even though I’ve enjoyed playing the course, the amount of traffic still continues to be a problem. Management seriously needs to consider how it books players on tee times because its a major turn off for a lot of us who are visiting for the day and have other stuff to attend to after the game

Played 9 holes and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The course is a good length from the white tees with enough of a challenge to make it interesting but each hole is able to be reached in regulation figures. The tee times need to be more regulated- we had three sole players play through. The greens were very fast.

We have played the course before and it was superb. However, we played the course just after Xmas 2008 and our experience was not so enjoyable. Indeed, the course was virtaully unplayable due to excessive surface water. I realise that the course managers have no control over the elements, however some sort of compensation would have been appreciated given the circumstances.

It is obvious that the course has no drainage system as there was too much casual water on the fairways. We arrived for our designated tee time to find 5 groups of 4 in front of us waiting to tee-off – we teed off 45 mins late. It could have been later as we had to wait for a buggy to arrive (that was 20 mins late).

Excellent value just $33 after 1pm met a member on the first tee who showed us round & pointed out where to hit.

Course in good condition, the greens were quite fast but very true with a smooth roll. Played off the blue tees but still quite short I put two in the water on one par 5 but still got a 6.

A plesant afternoons golf took less than 4 hours walking in a 3 ball. Shot a 85 one under my handicap first time out will go back one evening to play under lights.

Hard winter fairways and greens, slow play, and a cart that ran out of juice halfway down 18, other than that it was fun. It wasnt my cart that ran out, it was the other pair… I like Emerald Lakes, it’s always welcoming and even though it’s quite short, it is a challenge as you really need to stay on the fairway. I think I lost one ball on the day, shot 80 without a struggle and really enjoyed myself. It was the first time I have ever played golf with non English speaking people, two lovely Koreans, a husband and wife who couldn’t have been more polite, I hope I lived up to their expectations… This was a great experience and a lot of firsts for me. If the course wasn’t so short I would give it four stars.

started off slowly due to the 1st being a short par 4. speed of the round not great given that, the tees were all at the front & pins in friendly positions. having said that the course presented well, greens good for the weather(cold nights – frosts). should really put on 2 days – one for golfers with an agu handicap and have a handicap limit. then another for social golfers and less experienced golfers. the round was held up by 2 asian ladies who had no idea about speed of play + waiting for what seemed an eternity to play when they could not reach the group in front – general etiquette poor. they may have all day to play but, others dont, group in front of these ladies possibly 2 holes + ahead at one stage.

According to the Pro Shop the discount rate prompted an avalanch of bookings which put around 360 golfers on the course. Our time (11.57) was late but even so, with no stop at the halfway we finished at 5.19 pm. By the time I got back to Brisbane I had not only missed my dinner at Eventide but I had to seek a bed elsewhere. I was lucky that Pat Welsh was in China for the Games so I sat in his garage and chewed on his tyres for the night. Seriously, I brought three golfers down from Brisbane and even though they all played well the day was a disaster. I could never get them back again. Having said that, we were all impressed with the staff, service, and enthusiasm of the pro shop people.

We had eight players on a perfect day. The staff from Emerald Lakes (Proshop, drinks cart, BBQ) were very pleasant and well organised. Having someone on the 1st tee was not only helpful but got us off to an enjoyable start. We found the tee areas all excellent (Blue markers) and the fairways in good condition. The small shrubs to mark the 100m and 150m is a nice touch. Bunkers were tidy with soft sand. The greens were challenging and just a little bouncey. Some people obviously do not own a divot repairer. Overall though they were fine. The course in general is interesting and well organised around the water. It was suitable from our beginner golfer right through to our low handicapper. Had a great day and will enjoy playing there again. The price – What can I say – $18 with carts – WOW.

Played on 11/08/2008 I’m a Gold Coast resident and have played Emerald Lakes several times. I never found any fault with the course but the last time I played it took us 6 and 1/2 hrs. After that I promised myself never to go back again, especially with the great and varied choice we’ve got here. Well, I just couldn’t go past playing for 18 $ with the Iseek special so off I went. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised: even though there were obviously heaps of people, all taking advantage of the promotion, the pace was pretty good. Took us 4 and half hrs. The course was in good condition and the staff very friendly. They had organised a tent between holes where you could go and get drinks and sandwiches/breakfast. I saw the drinks cart at least 5 times running around. Even though it’s clear they made the extra effort to look good during the Iseek special day I think I’ll go back again next month to see if things have changed for the better. I might just use one of the vouchers that they gave us as part of the promotion….... :)

There are distances on all the Sprinkler Heads here, all measured with laser, and the card tells you that the 100 and 150 tree markers are there.

Emerald Lakes has something that most people don’t realise, all they see is a short easy course. For one thing, if you are not hitting the ball straight, you will lose a lot of balls in the lakes. Its not called Emerald Greens for a reason !

The other is that every green bar one has 2 or 3 tiers, which gives each hole some very different strategies depending on placement. Sure you can bomb away and most don’t notice the subtle difference.

Next time you play it, just look back from the green and see how different each hole needs to be played.

I played at the course on Saturday. I thought considering all the hype from different people who had played the course that it would have been better. We only played 9 thank god , because that took us 2 1/2 hours. No Markers for 150 & 100m , they are apparently 2 little trees that mark those distances which we found out after the game. Its built for the average golfer though, nobody loses very many balls.

Played in the afternoon, 2pm, and easily got in before 6pm using two hired carts with my mates. Had to wait on couple of holes but generally the field moved fast. Played in October 2007, two weeks before the Queensland PGA and after the storms. The course condition was great and greens excellent. This short course can be difficult but will usually flatter the “B” or “C” grader who is not too long off the tee but fairly accurate with a competative score. A graders will eat the course on the par 5s. Great clubhouse since the mods last year and a very relaxed atmosphere all round.

Quite simply I do not understand why the club takes booking for social golfers.

They offer an excellent deal for 18 holes, a cart, ball, towel etc for A$55. But then treat you like lepers for having the audacity to turn up the same time as members do!! Do you want to have an enjoyable social game of golf with friends – it won’t be – don’t get sucked in.

If you want to hit up on the group in front, blank their friendly "G’Day", powerwalk past them and then when you hit a bad tee shot at the next hole (as they waited behind you because you wern’t actually that good anyway) smash your A$500 driver into the turf and swear as if in the trenches then come along you’ll fit right in or be questioned when walking up the 16th fairway with "Are you lost?" because "I haven’t seen you here before". (The irony being that the "golfer" asking had sliced their shot so badly that they were on the wrong side of the wrong fairway). I could list another half dozen events but I think you get the idea…

If you want to have a social round with friends who are learning the game (not that bad, just learning) then I recommend you clearly state this when booking as you will NOT BE WELCOME when they are busy. (which from the previous entries appears to be always).

The gentleman organising the first tee tried his best to keep things moving but clearly there is a difference between the people organising the bookings and the capacity of the course to handle the volume of players being booked. Some will say we are the cause of this issue as we cannot play off a low handicap but from what my friends and I witnessed we were by no means the worst players on the day.

We were so upset at the way we were being harrassed by payers and the course marshalls we decided to only play 9 holes. We discussed this with the genteman organising the first tee and he heard our issue.

We retired to the clubhouse. After being stared at by every member of the clubhouse we decided to put this one down to experience and leave.

Now, maybe I am being naive as I have only just set out on my quest to master the wonderful game of golf. So far I have played on half-a-dozen courses with great enjoyment and camaraderie with the other players I have met.

The overall feeling we left with was that this was STRICTLY FOR MEMBERS ONLY.

I played this course on 16 September. Our tee off time was 1:40pm although we teed off a little earlier, thanks to the marshall on the first tee. The front 9 was quite slow, with a build up on a number of the par 3's (at one stage there were 4 on the green, and 2 groups of 4 waiting to tee off and then the 2 of us).

The back 9 was much quicker and it was about a 4.5-5 hour round for 18 holes.

A very nice course though, the fairways were quite good and the greens also pretty good. At $48 including cart and range balls (courtesy of the virginmoney voucher) this was a good price for a good course. I will play here again.

I liked this course the fareways were not as good as some of the other coast courses but they were still of a high standard. I found the greens to be quite difficult to read however perhaps i was just having an off day with the putter.

The course was pretty slow even with carts we still had a 4.5 hr game the course simply puts too many ppl on for the weekends with groups of 4 going every 10 mins.

Having said that the layout was really nice and dispite its shortish length still offered plenty of challenges Check it out for yourself.

Nice course with a great selection of different holes, but why does it take five plus hours to play.

There has to be something wrong here.

I would love to play again,on this course but not enough time in a day!

as I had looked forward to playing this course the group I played with pulled out after nine holes due to the slowness, it took us three hours just to play nine holes the course was over booked due to students playing from the University

the course definately challenging although short, green fee very competive compared to some of the more elite courses

went to this course with high expectations and anticipation of maybe getting to play under lights on the back nine and it delivered. was there mid week and it was very busy, joined up with a wonderful couple to play a very slow front nine but gave us all a chance to have a chat , perhaps a course marshall to keep it moving a little more would be something to consider.

the course was in great nick ,greens were very quick during the day which made it challenging for all but reward for good position and with some well positioned water and bunkers added to the challenge. the novelty of the back nine at night seemed to make my game improve and came away with a great round. the facilities are first class and you can see why they host the Pga there, this is a must play for anyone.

I played at Emerald lakes a while back in early january 2005.

Like all resort courses the entire course was maintained beautifully. The upside was that it was fairly short but still challenging and the greens were forgiving.

I great course for all handicappers high and low and i can't wait to get back there!

I played a round there in September, about 6 weeks or so before the Qld PGA Championship was played there. It's a short but challenging course, well mainted (as you would expect for a resort course).

Not too difficult, you can play to your handicap without thinking too much... the greens are forgiving.

A very popular course and a wait on each hole to tee off. The clubhouse food is great and atmosphere is fun.

Played in January 2004. Fantastic layout in superb condition. A variety of tee positions to cater for all levels of ability. Unlike a lot of resort courses you do not lose your ball to water each time you stray from the fairway and the cost to play was very reasonable. Would love to play the course again.
