Southport Golf Club is an easy walking course with tree lined fairways and strategically placed water catchment areas. The course starts with a reasonable par 5 and most golfers meander through the first nine holes comfortably. The back nine is where games are won or lost with “amen” corner commencing with the par 3, 14th hole. This is where Southport has held itself together in tight pennant matches.

The greens are 328 couch with green leas park couch fairways. The trees on the course are varied as are the birds and wildlife. Water dragons can be seen sunning themselves on the banks of the water catchment areas and members have their favourite turtles, which come up to be fed. This all leads to a comfortable day for golf and a chat with friends and guests.

Southport Golf Club is a little gem of a golf course. Its situated only 5 minutes from Surfers Paradise. Although the course is not long (par 71),importance has to be placed in every tee shot as the all fairways are tree lined. The par 3’s are beautiful and inspiring. Its a traditional style club and has a great big clubhouse that overlooks the 18th Fairway. The cost is very reasonable. There is a driving range and the staff are all very accomodating.

Southport is a fantastic course and although it may appear short when you look at the scorecard, every shot has to be thougt out. The greens are quite tight but roll superbly well. The rough is forgiving although the tree lined fairways require accuracy on every shot. The front nine is relatively straight forward albeit with a few testing holes. The back nine is where the fun starts with possibly the 10th about the only easy chance for birdie. The clubhouse has a great atmosphere and very friendly members and staff.

If you're asked to play Southport then no doubt you know a Doctor, lawyer, developer, something along those lines. It's really the last course on the Gold Coast to have that traditional stuffy prestige. There is absolutely no reason for it other than the name. The course is short and boring, the clubhouse stuffy. It's generally an invite only game.
