Spalding Park Golf Club

IN: COURSE DIRECTORY | REGION: Mid West, WA | USER RATING: (4.3) | Add A Review

Set against the backdrop of the everchanging Moresby Ranges are 18 beautiful golf holes designed to be as much a part of the surrounding Nature Reserve as a challenge to even the most skilled golfer. The Par 72 course is by no means long at 5,871 metres but the tight, tree lined fairways accompanied by thick natural bush make for a game where accuracy from the tee is all important.

The lush, fully reticulated, couch grass fairways reward the good tee shot with perfect lies every time no matter what club you choose to play. However, it’s the sensational "saltene" grass greens that have made Spalding Park GC famous Australia wide. This salt tolerant grass is perfectly suited to the water and hot climate of Geraldton and makes a putting surface that can only be described as magnificent no matter what time of year you should choose to play.

So whether it’s a casual relaxing game of golf among beautiful natural surroundings, or the challenge of a first class competition course as good as most in Western Australia, then you must visit Spalding Park GC in Geraldton. You certainly won’t be dissappointed.

It may not be the longest course around with 3 of the par 5’s reachable in 2 (But thats another challenge)but it is certainly a challenge. The undulating fairways ensure that you never really get a flat lie adding to the challenge. And then there’s the wind. The greens are magnificent with suttle borrows that always do a bit more or less than you thought. No trip to Geraldton is complete without a game on one of W.A.s best Country Golf Courses

A fine course to play on. The par 3’s are your friend and the par 5’s are not. Watch the bunker on the 14th. I reckon it’s bigger than some small towns (an exaggeration but it’s still humungus)

Some bunkers are tough to get out of, one example is the 7th where once you rise above the bunker there is a tall a pile of dirt to climb over as well. Well worth the money.

Spalding Park is a challenging course that progressively penalises poor shots.

The tight, fully reticulated fairways demand accuracy from the tee and the beautifully manicured saltene grass greens present a class, contoured putting experience.

It's a top layout with a stand-out presentation that is not dimished by too much golfing traffic.

Throw in the west coasts fantastic climate and you've got a golfing destination that delivers all year round.
