GUR Played here GUR last Wednesday GUR (Greens Under Repair) Sorry folks – saw it so often am getting subliminal messages ever since. The Course looks a treat from afar but up close is still recovering from flood & @ $30 for a midweek round it just doesn’t seem ready yet. Pro shop jus want the $30 so Tee off was crowded, repair staff & machinery everywhere(no peace & quiet), & the only place I could get a smile was at the bar …… I’d smile too for the nightclub price u pay for a drink or a bite to eat. Leave the clubs at home, suit up & go to the swanky bar would b my suggestion for this place. Nice food & great view of frustrated golfers. Is only going to get better as the ground staff are busy repairing all the time.
PROS
- Nice Restaurant/ Bar Food
Cons
- Golf Course in the background not ready yet

Played this course the other day and the first thing I noticed was how slow the play was – It was nearly unbearable.
The holes overall on the front 9 were very short and one thing I did notice was that the rough seemed to be greener then the fairway! Greens and bunkers were good though.
PROS
- Greens
- Bunkers
Cons
- Very slow play

I played here on Sunday 17/10 and was overall pretty dissapointed with the course. In fairness to the course and staff, there had been a fair bit of rain in previous weeks so I can forgive the water lying on the course.
The condition of the fairways was average, however they were quite wide and very forgiving to wayward tee shots. The greens were extremely hard and lightning fast, which was concerning given the amount of recent rain. However, the areas around the green were well maintained.
The course is quite short. I’m not a massive hitter, but I rarely found myself hitting over a 7 iron in to the greens. Even the occassional par 5’s were reachable in 2 with a mid iron. So not really a course suited to longer hitters.
Main negative factor was the slow play of groups in front. The course was closed to motorised carts so could only walk the course, which I was more than happy to do. But we often we left waiting at the tee for 10mins plus waiting for other groups to clear. Overall the round took just over 5 hours to complete, which was very frustrating. But had I read previous reviews of this course, I would have been warned.
PROS
- Very forgiving for wayward shots.
- Variety of wildlife made the round more enjoyable.
Cons
- Greens rock hard and lightning fast
- Very slow play

Played St Lucia last Saturday (10/9) and it was average at best.
This course is short. On any one of the Par 4s a good drive means you’ll be hitting SW or PW into the green. In terms of a challenge then, I’d recommend you look elsewhere. In the past, the one thing St Lucia had going for it was the quality of the greens – not any more, they were also a real disappointment. Then there was the group of 5 in front of us running back and forth across the fairways, leaving stubby cans on the tees etc.
On a Positive note – the 19th hole is surprisingly pleasant & we enjoyed a quiet drink after our forgettable round of golf.

Greens were in good nick but that was about it.
Fairways didn’t reward the straight hitter with a concrete-like lie waiting for you after you had drilled it down the middle. The oly grren was on the tees and green. For $35/round I would have expected better.
be nice if they players on course could learn how to yell "fore". We were peppered 3 times and without a yell from the player who hit it.
Certainly will be giving this course a swerve and only using it as a very last resort.

Heard good things about the greens at St lucia, so we decided to check them out. Played on a Saturday morning so it was busy as expected.
There had been a bit of rain over the previous few weeks, so the course was looking very green and lush. The greens were indeed the highlight, rolling true, fast and of decent size. Fairways were patchy but I didn’t seem to have any bad lies.
The course is fairly short with a number of par 4’s reachable from the tee. Its by no means a flat course, and as we were on foot knew all about it by the last hole.
All in all its a nice little public course with plenty of challenges and some of the best greens around.
Will be back on a day less busy.
PROS
- Can play on a Saturday
- Fantastic greens
Cons
- Very crowded
- fairway need some work

Played this one today gentleman, and was happily surprised. Staff were great. Big Shout to the Course Marshall who kept things relatively smooth. So few flat surfaces as to make you wish for just 1 decent lay. Quite the challenge all up. Can be a Loud course though as very social. Greens though Dry played well and proved difficult
PROS
- Definately the challenge. Fairways in Good Nick all round
Cons
- Greens need a Water. Really Dry and Brown in some

As far as council courses go, this rates high. A challenging course with plenty of diversity, from long, wide par 5’s to short and tight par 3’s. THe course is in fairly good shape, with the water traps all full. THe bunkers and fairways leave something to be desired, and are a bit messy in places. The greens are the highlight of the course, and are in splendid condition, and are vary between holes, i.e they are not just flat and round.
Overall, St Lucia is a great course for social golfers looking for an interesting and exciting game

Decent council course.
Plenty of variety with the holes. A couple of Par 5’s and Par 3’s on the front 9. 13th hole backs up to the clubhouse, so you can play 3/4 of a full 18 holes.
Greens are an excellent aspect of the course. They are in pristine condition. Fairways are patchy in some areas but are not too bad.
Overall, excellent course however it lacks the atmosphere of other golf courses.

I played this course with two beginners (first timers)and was impressed with the overall condition. The fairways were slightly rough in patches, but overall were in good condition. The greens and bunkers were in marvellous order. A perfect course for beginners to learn this great game….

Played this course in a social club on the weekend and thought it was going to be a long long day when the scheduled tee off was about 15 minutes late due to the traffic in front of us but the course Marshall seemed to keep the crowd moving pretty well.
The course was in great nick except that a couple of early tee’s have been moved to facilitate various changes. This meant that the course had dropped a few shots in difficulty.
The greens were very consistently good and the fairways were also well maintained.
The fairways are quite wide and most holes can be negotiated with a minimum of problems and except for a couple of unscheduled detours into the creek it was a great day.
Would recommend this course.

Not bad for a council course, some nice holes although the fairways are a tad rough in some part, well looked after greens, great stuff we were stuck behind two big groups the marshall moved us onto the back nine and fit us in on the rest of the front nine afterwards most helpful!
PROS
- Greens
- Nice Cafe
- Friendly Staff
Cons
- Fairways Could be Improved

Nice course next to the Brisbane River. Quite disappointed that we were told to play from the best shot in our group and this was enforced by a bloke following us round the course on a buggy! We paid to play our own shots, not someone else’s. Apparently this makes groups go round the course quicker but we couldn’t have gone any quicker anyway as we were held up by the people in front.
PROS
- Challenging greens
- Good condition
- Nice cafe overlooking course
Cons
- Having big brother follow you around the course

Short and straight which is good for a newbie/high handicapper but not such a good regular test of golf. The maintenance of the course can be rather variable and the greens can be disappointing. Just a thought, are public courses, ie St Lucia and Vic Park really necessary? There’s only three non-public access courses in Brisbane anyway and the public courses actually charge a little bit more a round for a lower quality course. Both public courses seem to be more focused on the dining/banquet, golf range, mini golf stuff anyway. Maybe they could just keep those things and sell the land off for parkland and much needed housing development. Vic Park in particular would be pretty valuable land.

I played on this course, last month, and was disgusted by it. I’ve played this course for numerous years, and found it to be a good course to play on, however there was construction on the golf course. Fairways were ripped up (4th hole, front 9) and even construction machines left in play (I know you have to park it somewhere, but put it out of bounds). I realise the reason for the construction (increase water holdings to water the grrens and fairways), but I wasn’t informed about the works until after my game (and paid full price for the greens). Needless to say, it will be a long time, till I go back to St Lucia, unless they drop the green fees during construction.

Monday Mates Rate...play 2 with cart under $50.
Very nice course but like others said, no offense, but heaps of hackers around. Good thing Golf World St Lucia has a Marshall travelling around the course controlling traffic to speed the game up.
Fairway - Wide and in ok condition, a little dry.
Bunkers - Good and not many :)
Green - Slow when I play last week.
Not a difficult course with not much par 4s over 350m.
Longest Par 5 -453m
Longest Par 4 -395m
Shortest Par 3 -122m
Easy to score low at this course. Good value and a must try if you haven't played this one.
Overall 4 stars

I know my title sounds derogatory. It's not meant to be. St Lucia is a really nice course, but golfers with a handicap over 20 will appreciate the generously wide fairways, largely unprotected greens, and only the occasional body of water, easily cleared by a decent shot.
There were only a few holes that had a little bit of a challenge - the 5th and 14th were crooked enough to not see the flag from the tee, making you think a little, and the 15th will punish the wayward slice with the fairway sloping sharply right towards a creek.
Unlike Victoria Park, the other BCC-owned/operated public course, St Lucia was well cared for with a good covering of grass on most fairways, and greens that were even and not too fast.
The 19th hole is modern, open and breezy with good views of the course back down the 13th and 18th holes.
I would happily play St Lucia again, because it offered a pleasant mornings golf with the occasional challenge. If you are a low handicapper you might not feel the same, but still a well maintained course.

Long review: that this course is the pick of Brisbane Courses. I would like to correct you that Brookwater would be the pick of Brisbane courses. Although it does offer good value for money. I just wish they would fix the 2nd green, the grass has alot of trouble growing with the tall shady tree's surrounding it.
I would recommend this course for a cheap and cheerfull hit.

this is the old indooroopilly course and one can see why. has great potential. quite a short course though and has a weak stretch of holes on the back 9 and many short par fours. very hilly. the first hole, a par 5, can be reached in 2 by even the short hitters. if one is good at shots under 100 metres, its a snack.

It's hard to imagine that the Brisbane City Council actually owns this course.
I always enjoy playing here. You can score pretty well even if your off your game. Definately par opportunities most holes.
A couple of the holes (4 and 5) can get a bit ratty out on the left (I always seem to be out on the left) with a gravel road on its edge.
Sometimes this course is quite slow as well, they seem to pack people in. The Monday's mates rate ($13 / person) can take you 5 hours to go round.
The 19th hole is a great cafe/bar that you would go to even if your not playing golf. It has a great view back down the course and wonderful atmosphere.

I had a good time on this course.
We played on the weekend however and as some of the others have said, it is quite crowded so dont expect anything under a 4 hr game unless you get there early.
The course is very hilly with some tight holes throughout. The highlight of the course for mine would be the 14th which has an elevated tee of area which heads down to a sharp dogleg to the right. your 2nd shot will be about 160ish to a green which is surrounded by bunkers.
Overall it was a good day out but i would suggest players pay the 30 bucks for the cart.

St Lucia is a good course that does not severely penalise wayward shots. I like playing St Lucia as it is a fair course that allows birdie opportunities on many of the holes especially the 3rd hole as it is a short par 4. The fairways can be rough at times, but the staff are always helpful. The greens are always in great shape. The course can be crowded on weekends, so be prepared for a slow round. On weekdays this is never a problem. This is the best public course in Brisbane and great for the average golfer

Obviously Jonathont was playing a different course. This is a lovely course with a challenge for every level of golfer. I have played it as a 27, a 20 and a 15 and found a different challenge each time. It is well maintained and has good facilities. The only negatives may be that the cafe at the clubhouse is a little expensive and the course can get busy at times. Contrary to jonathont's review there is definitely a 9 hole option and there are so many lovely holes I cannot mention them all. Well worth a look

I firmly disagree to what was said previous about mud on fairways and people driving through bunkers and all that rubbish made up to turn people away from the course. I feel the course offers imperitave fairways with excellent greens with a good, testing layout. It is quite obvious whoever made those comments had bigger handicaps than the lies they told!!!

Can't really believe the positive reviews of this course - didn't equate to my experience at all. In the 13 holes we played until we gave up on it we saw or experienced: greens that were so bad they were virtually indistinguishable from the fairways, large puddles of water and mud everywhere on the course despite no recent rain, people driving through bunkers and across greens with carts, groups of 7 and 8 people, someone javelin throwing a flag into the bush, people stealing balls or hitting up on us or other people.
We (calmly) made a few comments in the pro shop about the need for a bit of work around the course and a marshall or two on weekends and were told with a laugh that it was just a public golf course. Well, it's a public golf course that charges more for a round of golf than most private courses and doesn't even have a nine hole option. You also can't buy a drink after your round without being treated like you're dirtying the non golf-playing cafe-set crowd who are what this course is really catering for.
First and last time to play here.

For some reason I always find St Lucia a fairly easy course to play. I'm not sure why though as it isn't particularly short or wide or anything but I always seem to score ok here.
I've heard a lot of low handicap golfers put it down but generally I think it's a pretty good course. The standard of maintenance has dropped a little in the past couple of years though I think - the money might be going on the ever-expanding club house rather than the course itself.
There's a good mix of short and longer holes. I quite like coming home on the 17th and 18th holes even though though they are fairly straight away par 4's. It seems like the course has been slightly dumbed down over the years since it became public - the third was changed from par 3 to 4, other holes have been straightened or slightly shortened, the 16th had a great big tree removed from the right side of the green that helped make it a great challenge.
This would be a course I would really recommend for golfers who just want a casual once in a while hit or who are starting to get their game going after learning the basics.

Great course, not so much for the soft hitters but it will test how straight you can hit a ball, very resonably priced at $17 for student and $13 for juniors.
The 19th hole looks the best, with beer and good food, a great game out and looking forward to playing there more often.

It's pretty hard to beat this course for value in the Brisbane area. It'll set you back $30 on the weekends, $18 for students during the week. The front 9 is a short-ish Par 37 with 2 450m par 5's, a short par 3 and short-medium par 4's. Plenty of the approach shots are to elevated greens. Number 3 is a par 4, reachable off the tee with OB left to penalize a hook from an aggresive player. It seems that the 2nd green is always a bit worse for wear, but the 3rd green is nearly always immaculate, and the rest are usually in very good shape. The rest of the front 9 mostly plays through some more or less parallel fairways with safe room on at least one side of the fairway if you hit a bad tee ball. As long as you have decent control off the tee you can easily negotiate the hazards. Don't get too cocky after shooting a good score on the front 9, despite being a par 34 the back 9 has teeth. No. 10 puts the pressure on your length, a 390m par 4, but it's just a straight uphill hole with an approach to an elevated green. The real gem of the back 9 is the 3 hole stretch 14-15-16. No. 14 is a 390m, near 90 degree dogleg right par 4 with thick bush/OB on the right on the tee shot. It requires a ~200m fade (but short of the creek that crosses the fairway) to get into position for the long approach to a well bunkered green protected by marsh left and long.
No.15 is another long par 4 with a creek on the right and thick trees if you go way left. No. 16 is a 170m par 3, to an elevated green with a nightmare pot bunker in front. If you hold your round together through these 3 holes, you get a breather on 17 and 18, two wide fairways and shortish par 4s.
This course is overall in great shape. One or two of the greens are sometimes a little beat up, but the others are well maintained. The fairways can get a little firm in the summer which can make the course play a little shorter. Being a council course, it's typically busy on the weekends. It doesnt really compare to the overall aura of a "resort style" course, but it's a great course for $30 and would probably be worth $50. This is my "home course."

We in Brisbane are very blessed by having beautifull golf courses, and I would say this course would almost have to be the pick of them.
Although a little shorter than most courses it still is very demanding, need to be very accurate off the tee, astray tee shots will be severly punished buy big scores. Very nice smooth greens which is always a must for a enjoyable round of golf.
Facilities outstanding right from the very professional proshop to the first class eating facilities, drinks cart always visable on course which nice to see with this hot weather we are having.
Course 9.5/10

Have made this my regular course.
18 hole, Par 71 -5694 Metres.
Great little course near central Brisbane. Front 9 has 2 shortish Par 5's and 1 Par 3, while the back 9 has 2 longish Par 3's (166 &163 metres) and no Par 5's, but 4 very long Par 4's edging toward the 400 metre mark.
Front 9, has some beautiful short Par 4's where hitting into a green on a hill or a dog-leg is the norm.
Back 9, with the long straight forward Par 4's and long Par 3's requires some long hitting, where on the front 9, the emphises is more on placement.
Very enjoyable little course, with a few hills to negotiate and no real water hazards. For the average golfer this is a great way to spend an afternoon. Green Fees are a modest $25 (for the 18 holes) with a 50% discount for pensioners.
Owned and maintained by Brisbane City Council who deserve a pat on the back for the condition this course is constantly in.

I played here yesterday ($15 play with a mate special on Mondays) and for $15 it was pretty good however I’d be hard pressed to recommend paying full price.
Some of the fairways are still pretty rough from the floods nearly 12 months ago, you can see they’re trying to get them back to normal, guess it’s a pretty big job.
Still a good fun layout though, challenging enough with very little water so you won’t lose too many balls.
