Recently had to work at Schoolies 2005 as an emergency services staffer. Travelled to the coast so I thought I play golf. FIRST LESSON, ring before to ensure YOU ARE WELCOMED AND ALLOWED to play at certain Gold Coast Courses.
Finally found out that as a non member of another Golf Club, Surfers Paradise Golf Club was about one of ony a few courses I could play. Be warned though, strict dress codes and high prices. $36 for a round of 18 holes, $34 for an electric cart to do same. Had to get a cart because I didn't have room to travel with my buggy.
The course amenities (club house and 2 nearby tall accomadation units) look like they were designed and built in the late 70's early 80's. The pro shop was well stocked with equipment and the staff (course pro??) was helpful and friendly. Facilities like ball cleaners, toilets on course, seats/ shade areas etc were very good. I found the price of things was high (cart, round, golf balls etc.)
The course itself was extremely nice aesthically. Lush green grass, birds, lakes and trees. I was dissapointed in the fact there was no course layout/ map to view for visitors such as myself. I found it hard to find the next tee off area sometimes. Additionally, it would of been extremely handy more than one time, to know the layout of the hole so as to assist with club selection, ball placement etc. If you dont know the course and you stray of line with a shot, brother, you could pay (several balls lost!!)
The course has several par 3's that have deadly bunkers to trap you out (found this out once). Also has several water hazards that come into play on several holes, affecting club selection for tee off shots (17th). Most the greens were easy to moderate to pay, however, I found most were slow and hard to judge for speed. There were a couple of short par 4's around the 260 to 280 yards which aloud you to attack, for the big hitters.
Overall, a nice course to play and being central to Sufers Paradise and adjacent to well known localities, very handy.
Negatives are as follows:
1. $70 for a round of 18 with cart, not the best value for money.
2. $2000 nomination fee, $1000 yearly membership, 2 year waiting list (from the mouth of staff at the pro shop).
3. Has an air of exclusivtivity (if there is such a word) but fails to deliver. It appears the image the club is after is resort like, families, members and "you earnt it" class but only gives you "tired 80's style, middle class and elderly members trying to be more/ prove something" feel.
I have re-read this review several times to make sure I am not being nasty or bias. I enjoyed the scenery, my golf game was good but I feel the course, or more so the club, just seemed to be lacking and tired.
Hopefully will play there again oneday in the future. Will be the first to award praise if things are differant. In summary, course not to bad, club... um.

I have played surfers paradise quite a few times. It's not that expensive $45 or so and is in great nick.
I agree with the first reviewer. Great looking course. Nice lush fairways, plenty of water and some tricky holes. I especially like the par 5 3rd.
The course is probably the closest to town that public can play on. The clubhouse is 70s in feel and look, but you come here to play, not drink.
