Played here today. It took 1 hour to play the first 2 holes, and near 3 hours for the first 9 holes. Whilst I had planned to play 18 holes, 9 was more than enough. Surely Tirhatuan staff know how many players can be on the course at one time without ruining the day with slow play.

The course was rated ’excellent’ – must be a relative term. I can excuse the patchy fairways, as $27 is very reasonable (although this course must be profitable with the amount of bookings they accept).
I won’t be back.

I play here very Sunday morning in their golf access comp ,ring to book no pre paymement ,great bunch of guys ,4hrs to play a round .Anyone looking to play in a great comp should definetley join.It is a very good test of golf far superior test of golf to Ringwood, Morack ,Malvern Valley ,Glen Waverley ,freeway. The course has been in excellent condition for years , water is not a problem as water is pumped from the Dandy creek into a very large dam, course has auto watering system.Green are always in excellent condition, fairways have good coverage of grass and rough is well contoured. The first 3 holes if you hit your drive 30mts right you are OOB,unlike Kingston links where you can hit the ball 50mts rights one very hole, 4 very tough par 4s average 400mts all with OOB ,Lateral hazards and bunkers.Greens are small and bunkers are strategical placed to punish shots which are slightly off line. You must hit the ball well to score ,it is not a drive and pitch course.

PROS

how the Herald-Sun ever rated this 6th best public access in melbourne is beyond me, unless they only rated 6 courses that is. Terrible. Stay away.

Played here last weekend, course was in pretty good nick but it was far to slow, i think they had overbooked and the front 9 took 3 hrs, it was painfully slow through the par 3s and some short par 4s.

Not a hard course, some very easy short par 4s.

For $25 on a weekend it was good value public track. Would have been more enjoyable mid week when i would hope that it was not as busy!

Played the course for the first time yesterday, and I thought it has a good mix of long and short Par 4’s and some interesting Par 3’s. One of the major downsides to the course however was how busy the course is, even on early Monday afternoon not during the school holiday period. This caused some tremendous backlog of groups on the tees of some Par 3’s and shorter Par 4’s, which I found disappointing.

Overall the layout is ideal for the mid to high handicap players, probably not all that challenging for those with handicaps of 12 or less. Most of the water hazards on the course are fairly out of range on those holes that they’re present, so it takes an extremely wayward shot to find them.

The Pro Shop seems to be well stocked and fairly well organised, but probably the green fees are a little high for this particular course, even during the week. This is a course that would be ideal to avoid on weekends, as you could be in for some extremely frustrating long waits on some holes. Ideal time for a good run on the course would be late afternoon during the week.

PROS

  • Some good long Par 4's
  • At least one bunker on most holes
  • Large pro shop with cafe
  • Good beginners course

Cons

  • Backlog of players from 4th to 8th holes, and the 11th
  • Water hazards not really in play on holes where present
  • Not all that challenging for lower handicap players

really good public course. whole course is in great condition some lakes are dried up but to be expected in current climate. green fees are very reasonable and the whole place from the course to the pro shop and cafe leave a smile on your face.

Played here on the weekend. The course is in great condition for a public course. The fairways are in good condition with no dirty patches anywhere whilst the greens are in great nick. Though its pretty far from the CBD, its worth the drive. The green fees are pretty cheap as well. The new pro-shop and cafe is extremely well stocked with all the latest gear. For a public course I rate this course 17-18/20. Easily one of the top public Metro Melbourne Golf Courses. Better than Yarra Bend, Freeway and on a par with Morack Golf Course.

An interesting, average track with a loyal local following.

Plays in fair condition and is reasonable value for money.

Probably not sufficiently challenging for low teen handicappers or better but a gentle walk and easy to get to and well run as a course generally.

PROS

  • Well run by enthusiastic staff

Given the weather conditions of recent years, this course is in excellent knick. Some challenging holes, especially the 11th if playing into the wind.

i think that the course management team are doing an exelant jod at tirhatuan lakes, for a public course it is certinly not the worst and for the money is great value. i believe that with the drought and ongoing competition tirhatuan shows a good future in the public course market.

Greens, tees and fairways are in very good condition with own water supply. One of the better public courses for the money although it is relatively easy compared to others in Melbourne. Well worth it.

Brief summary of this one I would say that the layout is repetitive but entertaining, the course is one of the easiest i've played but will still test out the weekend hacker, can be good fun and is small and well maintained. the par 4's are very similar and its a bit of a treck out of Melbourne.

Bit of a hike out from Melbourne as it is situated off Stud Rd in Rowville, but the track is well maintained and suitable for higher handicappers (like myself). For those who wish to play 9 on a weekend, these rates only apply after a certain time as the course is quite popular with the locals. Bunkers are a bit wet as previously stated. Still recommend for those who want to go have a hit on a public track.

Right near the old VFL park it gets the same rain. Which means take your wet weather gear all the time. If you are any way off line the ball will run into another fairway. Tight "nothing height" trees mean you really can't get back on as there are no gaps. Poor condition of light rough and tree litter makes chipping through a nightmare. Really suited to those that hit the pill about 150 but no further as long as they are straight. Low handicappers wouldn't like the lack of challenge and I high handicappers can't get out of trouble. No reward holes to speak of. Should be called "mudholes' not lakes. Sand is always wet as well. Try Kingston Lakes instead.
