I played here on Saturday 30th July.

Really great little course. Don’t have a bad word to say about it. Really nice setting, picturesque, and well maintained.

Course was in great condition, especially considering the amount of rain of late.

Not a long course but its pretty tight and punishing on anything wayward. Doesn’t take much to end up on the wrong fairway, as I found out quite a few times.

Greens were all quite slow, but ran at consistent speed on all 18 holes. They were excellently maintained and free of plug marks.

Course moved smoothly and freely at a great pace. Never felt rushed or delayed. Played as a group of two. Started just before 9am and was done by 12.30, including a little pit stop after the 10th. All the locals were friendly and bigger groups regularly called us through.

It is well worth the trip from Melbourne, and at $25 for the round you’ll struggle to find better value for money.

Played here many times and the most recent being just after Christmas. It’s just a course you never get tired of. Always kept in immaculate condition. The elevated 13th and 15th par 3’s are beautiful holes and the 16th with it’s sharp right to left dogleg is a real test of course management and club selection. Can dry out a bit in summer but really that’s just nitpicking. Shame they don’t have Sunday Comp. An absolute gem.

Played here 22 Dec 2010. This is a great course and without doubt the best that I have played in the wider Macedon area. Course is immaculate with excellent greens and well maintained fairways. The course is not all that long but has enough challenge to challenge most skill levels.
Excellent value at $20 and in a fantastic setting.

I organise a social group for my friends and found Trentham an exceptional course. It’s not too hard for the high handicappers and still challenging for the better golfers. Greens were in great nick (although there were 3 temp greens). The people in the clubhouse were very helpful and accomodating with their greetings, food and of course their beers. Tree lined course with great greens especially for Feb. We ended up with a 3 way tie and they let us walk across the course to the 115m downhill par 3, 13th to play sudden death. It’s been our best golf day so far! Happy hitting!

I played this course on Feb 2nd 2010 and were expecting big things considering the 4.5 star rating. The course is better than most others around the area, though I wouldn’t rate it better than Woodend. The front 9 is quite straight and is still enjoyable even with the temporary course there on 3 holes (ground works are expected to be finished by the end of April I think). But the highlights are really on the back 9 with some tougher holes and good par threes.

Overall I think the 4.5 rating is a little high, I’d rate Woodend 4 stars, and this one around 3.5 stars. For the distance it takes to get there from around Melbourne, I’d say it be worth a trip, but you couldn’t do it too often.

Played on 27th Oct 2009, this is my 3rd time here and it’s just a joy to play, the course is in fantastic condition, great fairways, slick greens, some large trees to keep you honest, you cannot go past playing here on a regular basis, if it wasn’t so far from my home I would become a member. Clubhouse facilities are great too and everyone is so friendly. Oh that other courses were this good. I look forward to coming back soon.

Trentham is one of the nicest courses i have played. It’s kept in fantastic condition, with the scent of pine trees from hole to hole, the layout is also great. Ever since i started playing the game Trentham has been green and you VERY RARELY find hard patches of dirt and dry grass. My favourite 2 holes even though they are short are 13 and 15 by far. Nice little challenge trying to hit the green in one shot with water and bunkers nearby. These days weekend mornings are getting pretty busy, the earlier the better.

Played here on 9th May 2009. The course is absolutely superb, fairways on the way back after a dry summer. The greens were like lightning and probably the best greens I have played on anywhere.

Played the course based on the reviews here. The fairways are dry and yellow. The rough is patchy also. The greens were in fantastic condition but thats about it.

Will not be coming back. There are many other courses in the area in much better condition. Gisbourne and Woodend for example.

Play here recently. Talk about a hidden gem (hope not too many others find it). Really enjoyed it. Not overly long but most of the holes make you think about you shots. especially from 13 onwards. The hardest holes are kept to the end, when your getting tired. Definitely will be coming back

When i played here it was in fantastice nic. the greens were lush and quick fairways are great. Although i got dun in pennit i still enjoyd it greatly.

A bloke I used to work with used to rave about his weekends away at Trentham & would tell anyone who'd listen what a great track it was.

I personally had visions of a dead goat track & couldn't be convinced.

Well I did get convinced to have a crack at it just recently & certainly don't regret it. This course is absolutely a hidden gem; lush fairways, consistent greens, no 2 holes the same & on sunny days the slightest waft of eucalyptus in the air.

The signature par 3's (13 & 15) are a definite highlight as well as the par 4 16th with hazard all the way on your right & at the back of the sharp left dogleg. That's before you consider the big hill on your left. The 11th is also a great hole, only short but be straight or you could be in trouble.

The 1st is my favourite hole though, I don't really know why.

Just a great track & well worth the trip.

Played Trentham for the fifth or sixth time on Sunday and was amazed at how well this place is kept. The new water hazards and raised greens are fantastic inclusions. Immaculate fairways and ever consistent greens make playing this course a real pleasure. No two holes are the same and although some holes are short, they require genuine strategy. I have played many great courses around Victoria, this is truly one of the most enjoyable. When considering where to play next weekend consider the $20 greenfees, quiet low key atmoshpere and a truly great course and Trentham just might be yourt destination. Personnally this is the best country course i have ever played!

There is a quiet and un-assuming joy in little places like this. Interesting country courses like Trentham and neighbouring Woodend are so far from the grandoise Moonah Links that it is hard to believe it is the same game being played.

Trentham is nearly always in immaculate condition, for a course that hardly ever sees traffic, it is no doubt a loyal crew that keeps this place in superb condition. The atmosphere of the pines surrounding 'mouse-ear' greens and little 'flick-wedge' par-3s around the back have such a 'secret' joy to them. Where Woodend feels a little rough around the edges, Trentham seems to be always lovingly 'kept'. The people that play this place love it and why not? On the links of Trentham everything seems to slow down and there is fun to be found with every shot. It is not a 'grand' golfing experience, but the beauty is in the detail.

Trentham is a very pretty golf course. Over the last few years the club has put a lot of effort into course improvement, and there are eight new "championship" standard greens as well as some new fairways..

The course is not long, but is fairly tight in places. It is in excellent condition most of the year, save for the hot summer months when the fairways get dry as there is no fairway watering. Even then the lies can be OK.

Trentham is a high winter rainfall area, but the drainage on the course is excellent with the red volcanic soil, meaning there is no puddling or soggy ground, even in the depths of winter. The conditions are fantastic from September through to early January.

Of the holes, the dogleg left 16th stands out as the best, a tough par-4 with out of bounds along the right side, and a water hazard past the bend. The new par-3s (2nd and 5th) are interesting, and the short par-3s down the back (13th and 15th) are fun to play with a wedge or short iron.

A criticism of the course would be that too many of the remaining holes are too short and too straight, and require little strategy or accuracy of placement other than a straight tee shot. Some of the new greens are built a bit like dartboards, and accept approach shots a little too easily; you can fire right at the pins. The course could also do with a few hundred extra metres to offer more of a challenge, especially in summer when the fairway run is high. A lot of par-4s are driver and a short pitch for long hitters in these conditions.

The clubhouse is comfortable and sociable when open, but there are no golf-related services (or pro shop) so bring all your own equipment. And if you visit mid-week in winter, throw a hot thermos into the car as there is no catering (honesty box system operates for green fees).

For the average amateur golfer, Trentham is a very enjoyable and memorable course. For social groups it offers a great environment for golf at a very reasonable price given the conditions it offers.

The 18 hole course at Trentham is a good test for golfers of all abilities. The course is always presented in good condition and features tree lined and undulating fairways. Accuracy, rather than length, off the tee is required as there are a number of dogleg par 4's. Trentham has it's own version of Augusta National's famed "Amen Corner" starting at the short downhill par 3 13th. Nothing more than a 9 iron or wedge is required here however the green is small and slopes from left to right. Water is also short and right. The 14th is a short but tough dogleg par 4 that requires a left to right tee shot followed by an uphill short iron approach to a green that is hidden and severely slopes from front to back. The 15th is another short downhill par 3 where the tee shot needs to be threaded between 2 huge gums to reach the putting surface. Only the back half of the green can be seen from the tee. The 16th is the toughest hole on the course. The hole is a dogleg left par 4 that places a premium on accuracy as well as length off the tee. There is out of bounds all the way down the right for the tee shot and left is a hill strewn with pines. Hit one "out of the screws" and you could find yourself in the water hazard that lurks on the far side of the dogleg. If the tee shot has been safely negotiated then a mid iron approach is required to find the green that is protected front right by a bunker. The green slopes from front to back. This hole has ruined many a good round and is a great par 4. This course represents good value for money golf and is not overcrowded which ensures an enjoyable round. Don't tell too many about this hidden gem.
