Urunga is a par 70 course with 18tees/9 holes. Out is 2,812m and in 2729m for a total of 5541m. 3 Par 5’s, 10 par 4’s and 5 par 3’s.
The course is located on two rivers and you should ring the repellant for mozzies and sand flies. During breeding season take an umbrella to keep away the butcher birds and plovers.
The course starts with a down hill dog-leg right 319m par4. Watch out for the pine cone trees which feature prominently on this course.
The 2nd/11th is a 447m dog leg left with a creek at 280m. On to a par 3 across the creek for the 3rd/12th being 150/192 m. Then come a series of par 4’s varying between 319-393m. Hit them straight because if the trees don’t grab them the long rough will. The 5th becomes a par 5 and the 7th a par 3 on the back 9.
Urunga’s signature hole is the 9th/18th. A 115m par 3 up a 10m dirt cliff face. OOB on the left, OOB if you hit 10m long, with drop zones at the bottom of the hill if you hit short.
The greens are of reasonable size, have a good variety and vary in pace. They are generally in good condition as there are no water restrictions.
Locals are friendly enough but play early if you want 18 holes on comp days.
