Waikerie is listed as the shortest of the Riverland courses and the only one under 6000 metres, but you wouldn’t know it after the front nine. A couple of par 4’s around the 400 metre mark and some longish par 5’s will definately have you scratching your head. Once you start on the back though you will see why as the holes are consistently shorter.
The course is well designed if a little up and down. However, because of the way the 1st and 10th are set out you don’t necessarily notice.
Perhaps disappointingly the two par 3’s on the front are very similar, one of the only criticism’s of the course. The back nine has two elevated tee off’s, on the 11th and 14th, the later in particular being superb as the hole winds away from you.
6 of the 7 holes on the back that aren’t par 3’s dog leg in some fashion, and when contrasted with the much straighter front nine is an excellent change.
You’ll want to keep it on the grass because the rough is very sandy and can be tough to hit clean shots from. But if you do you should thoroughly enjoy your round here, at what is argubly the best of the riverland courses.
